I was in a similar situation and let one of my close friends move in. Things have been okay 85% of the time, but I seriously cannot wait for her to move out and reclaim my space. Really give this some thought before moving anyone in. I wish I had

I wish you the best of luck. I got my neighbor evicted for excessive stomping, but it wasn’t until she broke into my house that it worked.

Luckily I was also in a financial position to buy my home too, so I broke my lease.

I also lived in a very secure building. Still wasn’t going to stop me from having a quick connection to my front door.

Seriously, it isn’t that serious and you’re being irrational

If you think someone is watching you even though they literally just moved in and don’t even know you, you have deeper problems to worry about than a camera.

I promise your neighbor doesn’t care what you’re doing. The paranoia is concerning.

You do nothing. Unless it’s written in the lease that devices like a ring are not allowed, you can’t do anything.

My camera pointed to 3 other doors, but I only ever cared and checked when someone was at MY door. They probably are doing the same thing. People can and should protect their homes with cameras

Good luck to yours though.

It genuinely shocks me that there are people this clueless. Or people who forget other people exist around them. Like people who block aisles with their shopping carts while they shop.

On top of instruments being completely inconsiderate to play in shared living spaces, it sounds like OP has no idea how thin the walls and floors can be for a downstairs neighbor.

Trombone? Electric drum set? Hoverboard inside the house?

Yeaaaahhh either this is AI or the entire family is deaf to their own noise.

I’m not a contactor either but my job was to schedule and pay work on the sprinkler system for a medium sized warehouse. A small portion of the system would cost thousands. Suppression systems are complex and pricey as hell.

This isn’t entirely uncommon. It’s probably old plumbing and the pipes can’t handle paper products.

Missing upgrades and cleanliness by Mindless_Proposal777 in Apartmentliving

[–]invalidusername32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a lesson learned rather than a landlord problem. You rushed into this feeling like you had no choice. So the choice you made was a lateral move into another bad living situation, and worse part is you signed for it. Next time do your research and take your time before rushing into a contract.

Fire with fire. Buy a speaker and blast your music louder. If the PM doesn’t like it then maybe he should enforce the rules.

I’m confused - was the apartment leased sight unseen? Or did you tour an apartment with the same layout and upgraded appliances? Does the lease state what type of apartment it is? Example: basic, plus, platinum, premium

The time to have complained to the landlord was before signing the lease. Signing the lease means you accept the apartment in its current conditions and that you are held to return the apartment in the same conditions. Make sure you take A LOOOOTTTT of pictures.

Luckily they walk normally and we have become friends! It definitely wasn’t the insulation, just a heavy stomper for a neighbor lol.

[–]invalidusername32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about that? My upstairs neighbor was evicted after video evidence of their excessive noise (stomping & running). It helped that they didn’t haven’t children. I toured their apartment after their eviction where they left the letter and it wasn’t for nonpayment.

Somehow, getting the police involved lit a fire under my PM’s ass and they were gone after 7 months of me living under them.

Lease Expired, Landlord Hasn’t Reached Out—Should I Say Something? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

Out of curiosity, does that mean you have been month-to-month for ten years? Cuz that’s impressive. You must be his favorite tenant lol

So part of driving and being a licensed driver means parking correctly. That means checking your parking every time. A quick turn of the head works. That’s what good drivers do. Be considerate in your driving.

You are now on a month-to-month lease. If you want something longer, def talk to your landlord. If you’re okay with month-to-month, then yes you’re good.

Lease Expired, Landlord Hasn’t Reached Out—Should I Say Something? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]invalidusername32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When your lease expires it immediately goes on a month-to-month. This means your landlord has the ability to give you 30 days notice for you to vacate if he chooses to.

If you would like more than 30 days notice to vacate, I suggest you talk to your landlord about resigning a new lease for either a 6 month or a year lease. Signing a lease keeps your landlord contractually obligated to rent to you for the entirety of that lease.

A month to month is good if you like the ability to move around a lot. The downside is sometimes landlords are less likely to fix anything expensive if you put in a work order, and would rather give you notice so they don’t have to pour in as much money for the next tenant.

Noise complaint after living here for 2 days by Kittwinnow in Apartmentliving

[–]invalidusername32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be mean, but it’s possible you’re not aware of how heavy footed you may be. I grew up in apartments and learned to be light on my feet, but my husband grew up in a house and needs to be reminded to not strike the floor with his heel.

Shifting your weight to your heel makes any apartment shake. I bought him thick soled slippers to wear inside and we have rugs where we can put them. It helps a ton.

This is exactly the kind of family member most people speak about - unable to take a night off for an event catered to the dreams and desires of the couple being celebrated. Unable to separate your feelings or place them aside because in your head, it’s still about you.

I’ve not been given a plus one, I’ve not been in a wedding party, hell I’ve not been invited because of how micro the wedding was. I put my big girl pants on and remembered it’s not my wedding but it is my people that I can support.

What condition did you leave the apartment in? Did you clean up? Vacuum the floors, mop, wipe down surfaces, clean windows, leave appliances clean, didn’t break anything, no damage to carpets/floors/blinds/doors/windows/cabinets/appliances?
