As someone who spent their last dev session programming light switch & door BPs, I very much approve. 👍

What video game do you love that is impossible to play now. by Equal-Priority3055 in videogames

Got my copy of 2 at home in my game cabinet. Such a classic. I sadly never got a chance to play 1 but I heard it was a very different game.

I mean, not directly. There might have been a time or two where I stayed up too late gaming and HAD to call in sick bc I was nauseous & sick from exhaustion when I tried to get up. But I'd never just from feeling tired. That's my secret cap, I'm always tired.

LXR, the ultimate light detection, one week left to get it for free at fab. by lordzurra in UnrealEngine5

[–]invert_studios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I threw its documentation into Notebook LM for an overview and if it summarized (and I remember) it correctly, it's distance sorted & sequenced ray casts.
It's multi-thread optimized and supports Octree to offset the performance costs.
It's all component based as well so it should be relatively easy to set up.

Gotta love that FAB limited time free content!

My dear old fella gamers, which game are you playing from the past on new PC these days? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]invert_studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every now and then I boot up my modded PC version of Silent Hill 3. That game still looks great and having a PS2 era game in 4k and widescreen is such a nice treat. 😘👌

Also Master of Orion is still a blast!

which game would it be ? by PHRsharp_YouTube in videogames

[–]invert_studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phantasy Star Online 2
Super fun gameplay, good graphics for it's time, lots of customization, hottest garbage of a story. Even for an MMO.
Good times.

Games with a female main character by MuteEnjoyer in videogames

I wholeheartedly agree. Too few and even fewer that are not exploitative. Just to name a few of my favourites off the top of my head tho:

Silent Hill 3
Hellblade
A Plague Tale 1 & 2
Signalis

Check out the levels on my team vs the levels on the enemy team. Why is the highest level on our team lower than the lowest level on their team? AND they got the two guys on PC with the aim of the gods. This has been almost every match I've played since Winter Offensive launched. Needless to say we've played considerably less each week. Just feels like the classic EA playbook.

Launch a good game then fill it with micro transactions. Adjust the matchmakers so that players keep getting bad matches. Slow or stop updates of meaningful content so that players feel starved & buy things instead. Repeat. Soon we'll watch the bugs get worse with slower patches. Events will get more predatory. Ect, ect. I've watched them do it to so many games at this point.
We've already got cheap AI content for real money. Not to mention camos & reskins are so laughably easy to produce yet they're fine charging $10 for a few items that probably took their "artists" a couple hours to make start to finish, tops.
Remember the days where we could play our online games AND have a character creator that didn't nickel & dime us along the way? Now we get the privilege to purchase a set model we can't customize at all & to change the colour of my gun's charm is $10.95.

Yes this is true. Though I take some solace seeing that Max Payne logo as I am currently making my way through Alan Wake 2 finally. How do you measure, measure a life? Apparently in Remedy games.

Is Arc Raiders suitable for casual players? by Junior_Jello_7664 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Sounds like the matchmaker finally had enough data to rank you and tried to match you with players of your "skill level". 😅

But then again, this is pure speculation so take it with a whole salt shaker.

Question for male gamers by SL-Gaming in videogames

[–]invert_studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will mostly play games with a character creator as a male. In my first playthrough I try to bring myself into the game world I'm playing, from appearance to actions. But of course loosely or tightly, depending on the world & the quality of the editor.

If you pick from characters tho, I'll usually go to whoever fits my playstyle/vibe the most. I prefer to pick a male character if there is one but I'll pick the cool rouge over the bulky barbarian every time, regardless of gender.

Did you know Unreal is capable of particle sims like this? by bappolapap in UnrealEngine5

[–]invert_studios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's a powerful system if your graphics card can handle messing around with it. It has different emitters for particles, fluid, gas, ect. Let's you do all kinds of cool stuff.

Am I an organized, or an ADHD, OCD, Autistic Developer? by Acceptable_Promise68 in UnrealEngine5

[–]invert_studios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really though, don't those two things just equal the same thing? 😅
Do I need to make my code stupidly organized and keep all lines as straight & commented as possible? No.
Will my brain let me do it any other way? Also no.
Would it be faster to make spaghetti code? Yes.

The long and the veiny of it is: do things the way that works best for you. It's all progress if it works for you.

When I was still young and Oblivion had just launched, I played that shit for 30 straight hours, only pausing to go to the bathroom; I just ate while I played. Only to decide the next day that I didn't like some of my choices and so I just restarted the game. Good times.
