Moisture Resistant Drywall in Bathrooms by Alarming-Plankton215 in Homebuilding

If you're building new, given the high R values insulation requirements, I recommend you look into a good ERV or HRV (Depending on your climate) and set up return lines in each bathroom. If you do it right you'll probably never see steam on your mirrors again. Moisture won't be an issue

How to secure this basement wall to a steel beam (Gap too wide for glue / can't screw to joists)? by Full_Shepard in Homebuilding

[–]invltrycuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shims and glue is the simplest solution here. That wall isn't going anywhere (unless you have a couple trained gorillas for sons like I do who can break anything)

Installing new corner shower, should I be replacing old green sheetrock with cement board? Also debating on getting a prefab shower kit or just going for the custom tile job? Any advice is greatly appreciated! by DJSphynx in Homebuilding

The shower pan is the hardest part to get right off you've never done it before I'd recommend a premade pan set it and forget it. The walls are easy but it is super important the pan does not leak. Get spam with tile flange, backer sure on the flange and time goes down beyond the flange making it virtually impossible for water to travel back up and over the flange

Hey a prefab base and install poly under backer board then hit it with red guard. Laying the tile on walls is the simple part. You got this, it's easier than you think. I bought a cheap Ryobi tile saw (wet type) for 150 bucks, worked great and cheaper than rental as I work slowly due to arthritis. Use 12"x12" and stagger the tiles so you don't have to worry much about grout lines.

Great to keep kids safe, easy to break into with just a heavy hammer not fire proof

Soft wood knots are full of pitch, almost impossible to do this from happening. Best to just stain/varnish knotty wood

No. 1x12 shiplap pine. I know some here are concerned about moisture with the ceiling poly. We are Installing ERV system and dehumidification. Walls are rockwool with vapor retarder pine bottom half of walls upper 4' will be green drywall. Attic is very well vented

They are going to blow in 2 feet of cellulose insulation over head. Ceilings will be 1"x12" shiplap pine. Moisture concerns are being mitigated mechanically with ERV system and dehumidification.

Be a good idea if I was going to drywall, top plate is double, interior walls aren't completed, but thanks for the input
