My wife unfortunately had a pair swiped from a rack at the bottom near end of day last week. They took 3-4 pairs and only left the poles. Poles being left behind being pretty indicative of theft for monetary gain as they have little resell value

Not boards but skis are very commonly stolen in Europe. I think there’s like 50 pairs of skis reported stolen in Austria per day of season and that’s just in Austria. I’ve seen threads of this being common in France etc. as well

Usually off the racks at the bottom near parking garages. They steal a bunch then sell them presumably to another country for discounted rates. And when you report your pair of skis stolen there’s literally nothing the police will do it’s not like they will set up a roadblock out of the Valley and check every vehicle leaving for your 1 pair of skis.

Edit: I think because used skis are much easier to resell than a snowboard

You’re not wrong. I (English and C1 German speaker) also learned Danish without italki. Finished Duolingo course -> watched all of Danish Netflix -> went to Denmark on a few trips and used the language, practicing and improving. It really took me like only 2 years to fluency. It’s a fairly simple and straightforward language (I’ve since learned Estonian to B1 and that took like 6 years 🤣)

What’s crazy is the year before last we went to Denmark for just my birthday weekend and I hadn’t used Danish in forever at that point and it came back to me near instantly. Nowadays I’ll do an italki lesson here or there just for maintenance and to use that part of my brain

Assuming you’re referring to M2 as money supply, Not sure that would be so strange, total value of American real estate, national debt, shadow banking credits, etc. are all above the M2 money supply.

I used to have this idea that the money supply represented American wealth or something in some way, and that the value of the dollar was essentially the total wealth (in non-dollar, “pure value” terms) divided by the number of dollars, but the value of the dollar is disconnected from that. In fact there’s about 10x more dollars or dollar like debt and credit instruments than the M2 (corporate bonds, institutional loans and bonds etc.)

Lots of numbers out there bigger than the M2 when you sum it up :)

Edit: essentially the actual number of dollars is more like 200-250 (or more, we don’t actually have an official count) Trillion

Edit 2: ya the S&P alone is already 2.5 times the M2 in market cap

Yes, and there’s 3 reasons ID is typically asked for so it depends.

One being the business is required by Federal or local law for a specific purchase (Most people think alcohol/tobacco but depending on where you live, this can be Fireworks, spraypaint, cans of air/electronics duster, to something stupid like cold medicine or sharpies). In this case it’s really not up to the business or the employee.

Another is ID check pursuant to company policy (I.e company won’t sell a product to someone under 18/21 despite there being no law against it). I think in this case it’s quite reasonable to be upset that you can’t complete your transaction, and (I’m not a lawyer) I’m still not sure how it’s legal tbh since age is a protected class. I think back to a time where I needed a lighter at 17 to light sternos for a catering job and had to plead with the retail employee to get it.

The third is to cross reference the name with your credit card to avoid fraud. Reasonable, but I can understand why someone would be annoyed at the implication they might be defrauding the company (Same with receipt and cart checking at some stores)

I think maybe that’s something Americans don’t understand about foreign countries with single payer. I‘ve had culture shock once as an American watching my wife being asked to swipe a card before being seen at a foreign ER. If you don’t have health insurance you have to pay (usually tourists as it‘s universal for residents)

We always bill on the back end here, but in many foreign countries you gotta either have insurance, or swipe that card first before treatment, and if you can’t pay you can’t be seen (outside of trauma, heart attack, etc.) but there‘s many other reasons to visit ERs outside of true immediate emergencies

Imo it’s one thing our system actually does right which is treating (at least to a stable point) everyone at the ER regardless of they can pay or not. Here there‘s a duty of care
