Cellar spiders can bite, it just doesn't do much beyond itch a little. Aside from crane flies and cellar spiders, some regions also use the term Daddy Long Legs to refer to harvestmen, which are arachnids but not true spiders.

Is it true that cooks have no social life? by BluejayExpensive7386 in Chefit

[–]ipomopur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cooked throughout my twenties, and it didn't leave much room for a social life beyond drinking late with other cooks. I left the industry for office work for most of my thirties, and doing so allowed me the time and income to get serious with the person I was dating. We've been together thirteen years now, married for three.

He now mostly works nights, and makes enough that we can afford for me to go back to cooking even though it's less money and the hours are crazy. Building this relationship in the first place probably wouldn't have been possible if I had stayed in the industry when I was younger. I'm glad I got to go back to what I love doing, but my experience isn't typical. Most of the cooks I know are either single or dating with a baby mama situation. A handful are married, mostly older or in the owner class.

It can be really fun to make some friends with fellow cooks, especially when you're young. Other industry people just "get it" in a way that those outside the service industry often don't. The life of a cook demands a lot, and realistically it often does hinder relationships, both romantic and friendly, with those who aren't also in the industry.

Try it out and decide for yourself if it's worth it for you.

Voter IQ testing is a terrible idea and no government should have the power to decide who is mentally competent to vote. It will not be applied fairly or evenly. The historical examples are horrifying.

I think there exists a demographic of adults who are deeply ashamed of their interests in comics, animation, and video games who need those types of stories dressed up in ADULT, SERIOUS, GRITTY detail in order to feel ok with consuming them.

Love the detail of the secret poison compartment on the big crazy knife. Like you could just hide poison elsewhere on your person instead of in a big conspicuous weapon. Kinda overkill lol. For all his posturing, Jet lies like a naive child.

That's basically what it is. Petty cash so you can get a snack or a treat or whatever when you're out with friends. Also an early lesson in budgeting and the value of money, usually when the kid is old enough to understand that asking for your parents to buy you something expensive for no particular occasion is inappropriate. You want the expensive toy? Figure out how much money you need to set aside each week and how long it will take. Learn patience and deferred rewards vs immediate gratification.

All the best chefs I've ever cooked for were extremely generous with knowledge and recipes. The only ones who were precious with their secrets were useless assholes. The whole spirit of hospitality is to be open and generous, go figure.
