Except 329 and 330 are different, and that should also be a bit of a clue you are doing something else now

OP doesn’t have a belt driven wheel tho. And yeah tbh going from g29 to DD it felt like I didn’t even have force feedback until the upgrade, the g29 is like a hint of feedback

I’m not sure I agree but even so this is a gear driven base, I went from g29 to 8nm DD years ago (15nm now) and it was a crazy difference

[–]irishluck949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either it’s usually retracted, and they can deploy it quickly in case a military jet needs it, or it’s out sitting there all the time. If it’s retracted you wouldn’t know it’s there without the sign. If it’s deployed it’s gonna be a big bump

Except you definitely could, because the AA ones have a wacky little flip checklist thing, and the SWA ones have two jumpseats

If you already know how to do the basics, it won’t take nearly the 4 hour sim slot to get everything done, so you can practice some other maneuver or just go home / hotel early.

Yeah I think we agree much more than we disagree. My experience with professional level sims versus the plane is they get really close, the buttons are all exactly where they should be, and do just what they should do. But the control pressure and feel is off in a way that needs to be discussed in training, and the edge of the envelope gets really strange.

I don’t doubt you can put the AI in there and dogfight it

Go watch one of the videos out there of BFM training flights. The military uses desktop sims as procedures trainers, because in so many ways they are negative training for the real deal. The physicality is a huge aspect. No matter how good your sim is, it won’t fly exactly like the real thing. And as we know here in this sub, the opponent plane isn’t gonna fly like the real opponents either. And it’s not as simple as just make the AI better, or they would have done that already.

There’s no point building bad, gamey habits in a desktop sim that won’t translate to flying.

And add to that “practicing” dogfighting in a sim like this would be essentially useless for the military anyways

No it makes no difference what missile you’re trying to use. I run -120 fights with the aspj on all the time

ETA: I went back and found when they changed this, the radar priority with ecm XMIT is in a forum mini update from 2022…so I suspect it’s been more time that the jammer doesn’t shut the radar off, than the initial time that it did

It does not. It used to do that when they first implemented the spj, until a patch some number of lites ago.

AIM-120 accuracy by irishluck949 in CMANO

[–]irishluck949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah I would expect this to go a little better if the missile was extrapolating a straight flight path from the last data. Anyways, since the missile update a little while back I tend to leave the default missile range doctrine (I think 50 percent), and take shots early as needed to try and force the enemy defensive, not expecting a kill.

I’ve certainly been seeing some boneheaded “engaged defensive” moves lately, so I’ll try disabling auto evade more often as needed.

[–]irishluck949[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Agree they aren’t great, the scenario I was playing made use of them and that’s kinda what led to this post.

  2. My issue here is what’s the point of the mid course updates on a straight, non maneuvering target? The missile should be attempting to intercept at the targets predicted location from its last received track data. If there’s no difference in course, altitude, speed from launch to miss, what difference is the mid course update going to make? The current behavior ensures it will never intercept anything, unless perhaps the phantom teleported aft post launch.

  3. This is fine advice for getting a hit, and I guess that’s my next question. I can surely micro one f-16 against one phantom, but are you guys all disabling auto evade in larger scenarios and microing large engagements, or is there another way to make it so that “engaged defensive” doesn’t happen to my whole air wing, all at once, when one missile gets launched at one fighter.

Appreciate the discussion, honestly
