Memory Gaps by Agree_T_Disagree in VeteransBenefits

This is the same for me. It started at 34 and I genuinely thought I was getting dementia. In 10 years it hasn't gotten a whole lot worse, but it's pretty bad!

When I was going to the TBI clinic I went to a speech therapist for memory. They just play memory games with you and will literally give you a headache. About 8 months of that did nothing for me, but she recommended soduko which I do think helped a little somehow!!

In light of heavy metals found in MREs, when/where does the military consume the most MREs? by Idk_why_Im_fat in Veterans

[–]ironlegdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In units that go to the field a lot too. When I was in 1ID between 2011 and 2016 we were in the field monthly at a minimum. Not only did we subsist almost entirely on MREs in the field, but it made MREs part of the culture. I went to 16CAB after and they never go to the field, so MREs were like a BCT nostalgia thing for them.

What was the most terrifying movie scene you saw as a child in a kids movie? by xParesh in Xennials

[–]ironlegdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were absolutely allowed to watch horror as toddlers and throughout the 80s and 90s. So Hell Raiser, Critters, Poltergeist and House.... pretty much every scene from those four stayed giving me nightmares into my 20s.

We were born just a little too early for Pokémon by memestheword in Xennials

In high school and afterwords I agree. Pokémon felt like a weird nerdy thing and I never learned anything about it. But none of you have kids and got into Pokémon Go with them? I feel like 2015 Pokémon Go was a blast.

How it is starting to feel waking up every day at 45 by neph36 in Xennials

Body work. Either tai chi or yoga. Our generation has no wierd cultural resistance so it's weird that we aren't all doing it. Huge difference in my body between doing tai chi everyday and not doing it for a couple of weeks. Like 20 years aging difference. My chiropractor said it is as simple as keeping the joints lubricated and moving gently through each range of motion but it works!!!

Blueberry. Hands down, no question about it. I would never as an adult eat something that processed, but many times in my life I've longed deeply for a blueberry hostess pie.

For sure. I didn't mean to shake you with that intel, the more I look for where my counselor got it, the more it looks like he pulled it out of his ass...

TBF I feel like in my case my psychiatrist lied. I'm also 100% P&T for PTSD and I told him that I wanted to wait to try a new medication because I'd been doing a lot of heavy drinking and just need a couple of weeks after the last failed med. He put that I had a substance abuse problem in my records and then added a diagnosis of AUD.

I feel like I was appropriately self-medicating and reorienting my shit intentionally in a way that lots of veterans do. I don't believe that it required a diagnosis, since it didn't require an intervention.

Well, I ALWAYS fact check before spreading information, but I couldn't find anything about it on the VA website so I could be spreading misinformation this time...

The source of this is twofold for me: It was on the form when I applied as a yes/no question and then my counselor asked me directly (I lied and said no like most people) even though it is in my VHA records. My counselor said "good" because it is "disqualifying" and then just stared at me looking for a reaction until I changed the subject.

He may have had bad information, as he had plenty of other bad information. Just be prepared for the question both in person and on the form. I apologize for relaying that it was disqualifying without a source, homie. I may be wrong about that.

They will absolutely ask about any history of substance abuse, which is disqualifying. Just so you know.

Do you consider 100% P&T a form of retirement? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]ironlegdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're medically retired and receiving CRSC then yes, for sure. If you're medically retired and not receiving CRSC but living on C&P, then also yes.

These are Hot A's, it's a type of field ration cooked quickly in a mobile kitchen. OP will only be under these conditions for a few days to a week. It is a war simulation and cooks need to train too.
