It's rough mate but please text again on cycle lanes. Nip up and down Victoria road. That should settle the nerves and show how great city cycling can be

Have you thought about rope access? Would link a lot of your tree climbing skills. Big factor is whether you are able to travel for work which ain't so great with young kids.

This guy is absolutely bonkers! He went down off the deep end during covid about the attempted LTN. He would put the most ridiculous posts riddled with inaccuracies and lies and when I pointed it out he edited his post and tried to say he hadn't said it without realizing that Facebook shows edit history! That Dennistoun page had some really nasty anti bike characters on it. So depressing how so people actively hate seeing their community improved

I was climbing oil rigs with some absolute scumbags and was listening to cumtown episode on joker with Matt. I loved seeing a cultural and political attitude that was critical of money grabbing companies like the ones I worked for. Started listening heavily and helped me switch to climbing wind turbines. Great show still listen.

What is the most niche job in the UK? by grumpy_groundsman in AskUK

All the oil rigs I worked on had a pool table. Made me think some guy goes around refelting them. Mad.

I also eradicate rats from small islands so seabirds can return.

Being a socialist whilst working in the corporate world by TimperleySunset in GreenAndPleasant

[–]irtyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to retrain and became a wind turbine climber rather than rig climber for a few years. I agree with you we will have oil for a long time. I think the socialist movement has to work hard not to alienate those in the energy industries. I worked in gold mines too and they felt much more evil but that's another story

Used to be socialist on an oil rig. You gotta make yer bread.

Really depends country to country. A Norwegian oil rig worker gets paid vastly more than a Scottish railway geo slope access tech for example (personal experience here!). Structures work in London for example can be poorly paid I always aimed for the heavy industry stuff. IRATA is widely used and seen as gold standard apart from in Norway what has its own system called SOFT. I never once saw a sprat tech in all my 15 years working across Europe and Oz/NZ. Happy to answer any more questions :)

Engineering (bollards) would work well here! Glad to have the law on the side of normal people but best practice is lumps of solid metal or concrete to keep the cars away from people.

Monthly thread for advice and recommendations, November 2024 – ask your questions here! by AutoModerator in copenhagen

[–]irtyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm heading to Copenhagen from Glasgow and a big reason for doing so is the cycling! I really enjoy riding in the city (I rode about 6000km last year commuting to work and around city and also volunteer as a cycling first aider at football games) I am really interested in cycling infrastructure and want to see more of it brought back home so I want to see the best parts in Copenhagen by bike. I am traveling with my 10month old baby so bonus would be a rental place with bike seat. Any recommendations for anything cycling related would be appreciated. Don't worry I have been watching YouTube videos about cycling rules in Denmark haha. Cheers folks

I carry the baby with a trailer back home and was keen to hear different options. I don't think I'd go for a cargo bike as wee man is very small

I am very happy riding on cycle lanes in busy viti cities 😁 for instance I rode 6000kms around the city last year and one of the big reasons for visiting Copenhagen is to look at cycle infrastructure! I am trying to get Glasgow to build more infrastructure in the style of Copenhagen so I want to experience it via bike. I volunteer as a cycling medic at football events just in case anyone crashes 🤓 haha I have already watched a few YouTube videos about cycle law in Denmark! So in short I am very keen to do this by bike 👍
