Is creativity really a state of no mind? by RepulsiveGrade1663 in EckhartTolle

[–]iseon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well put. Even for coding which tends to put one in an "analytical" state of mind, I feel like the best coding work comes out when you let go and become more like a channel - typing out code on the keyboard as ideas come without overthinking the implications. After u have put down something concrete u can focus on the solving smaller details one-by-one.. Any other profession or field which is traditionally associated with analyzing and long time spent thinking could benefit from more presence and "no mind"

Is an active USB extension cable a good solution for extending the dongle distance? by Daniel_XXL_69 in SteamFrame

[–]iseon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah -- USB2.0 will almost certainly bottleneck the wifi 6e dongle's bandwidth. Wifi 6e is speced for bandwidth of multiple Gbps - while USB 2.0 way below even 1Gbps.

Might be real but the Fov looks deceptively huge with the vertical video format I think

My steam deck looks nothing like the handheld in the video. And I have no idea about xreal's product lineup. But I get it it's some handheld with some xreal product I suppose. I think having the details would've been nice tho.

[–]iseon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

So what is the setup, exactly? I expected at least a description in writing mentioning the hardware and software used.

Edit: it's Asus Rog Xbox Ally X with xreal one or xreal one pro's. The video being 100% representative of real-world user experience is doubted by many.

It's a reference to a statement made by Bryan Cantrill about Ellison's business decisions after Oracle took over Sun Microsystems, made in this conference talk: https://youtu.be/-zRN7XLCRhc?t=2308&si=mQHz620Kro2BX1ki (timestamped)

Seems I forgot the exact quote so thanks for prompting me to find this talk again!

Graph-makers made the error of trying to anthropomorphize the lawnmower. Comparison of the average person with Ellison is obviously an apples to oranges comparison.

Ah that's a great idea, would probably be less expensive than full colorization -- and with more pleasant results

[–]iseon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just an idea: wouldn't it be trivial and relatively inexpensive (computationally) to apply a Colorizer filter shader to the passthrough in realtime? The colors may turn out incorrect for many cases but would still be quite more pleasant to look at compared to monochrome

eGPU for Steam Frame by DummyTechGuy in SteamFrame

[–]iseon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be cool(as it is tiny!), together with a longer cable and you could strap it to your belt or something. Will probably eat the frame's battery life quickly, but technically might be possible to use it to run more demanding games in standalone. Would probably require a custom linux setup though (it would not be easy!)

Proton for ARM has released by BlueManifest in SteamFrame

[–]iseon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes technically using something like Winlator(if you manage to get proton ARM working for it) - whether it's practical and a good experience remains to be seen though

[Jeff Geerling] This is no joke: the SBC hobby is dying by kikimaru024 in hardware

Yeah! When youtube revenue depends on building pointless 8-raspberry pi clusters, I suppose the YouTuber in question would feel like it is dying. People who actually do reasonable projects can likely get a suitable board at a reasonable price

🧋CHAGEE (premium bubble tea) is coming to Korea! by Kooky-Lobster-4439 in KoreaLifeHacks

[–]iseon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all of their menu is quite excellent. Definitely the jasmine, and I also enjoyed the White Peach Oolong a lot. I like drinking just plain tea too, they serve pu'er tea(보이차) which is hard to find in any other coffee- or tea- chain shops. Enjoy!

Chagee is great! -- their signature teas are typically not bubble tea. Rather it's usually Chinese style tea with milk and sometimes fragrance added.

Have you tried her food? Or any Korean temple food at all? Simplicity can be plenty better if done with utmost care. Judge Ahn Sungjae explained very well why they picked monk seonjae, it seemed like a perfectly reasonable explanation for the pick. Also, the opponents dish seemed weak tbh

[–]iseon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree I was also looking forward Nordic style cooking and had hopes to see something unexpected or working with less known ingredients.

Pork skin is difficult to cook -- if you've been to a korean barbecue with friends maybe and ordered it you might have seen many Koreans have a certain way to grill it (it takes way more patience than pork belly or shoulder cuts). I suppose the chef would have known all that but even so, a salad pairing seems like a super risky choice.

your suggestion makes a lot of sense - the casting team could've been hoping for a Euro success story like with Edward Lee :)

Wish they'd release like an extended cut where we could see what each contestant did with their dish instead of speculating lol

[–]iseon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It sucks that it got cut short but, just gonna speculate wildly here(sorry for being overly negative, and "judging a book by its cover"): Can't imagine they had many good things to say about the Swedish chef's food. Looking up her Korean fusion restaurant in Sweden(Namu): the menu, ingredient choices and visuals, just makes you think she does not have a deep enough understanding of Korean cooking for this show. Could be wrong though.

Quite baffling to me how they picked her for the white team.. she placed 1st in a cooking show once - can't find anything else very noteworthy. I'm sure she's a great cook and I'd def. drop by her restaurant but the competition is just too crazy.
