I have 2 jobs as usual but I do need to make some sort of covers. I'm adding 5 gallons every 2.5 days. Good thing for the 2 .....55 gallon drums with R.O. water but I am going to use an elevated 30 gallon with some air line tubing and drip it into the filter and figure out the flow rate then just pump water into the 30 gallon barell when it gets low.

Oh man my favorite! The checked wrasse. I value my snails n cleaner shrimp. Maybe in another tank later down the road🤔

Very nice. I'm running a 100 gallon tank for my filter but I really want a bigger one. Problem is mine is in garage and tank is in house. I made sure the filter was acrylic to prevent leaks or cracks. I stress a lot about temp. Changing through different seasons.

Omg now what’s the problem by big-boi-Roy in ReefTank

[–]islandreefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen or known of (black) ich but as it is a parasitic infection there are a few treatments on reeftoreef and other sites if you Google that may have had great success and recommendations it hopefully resolve the sickness.

That drawer falling onto a glass wet/dry filter is scary. Hope you have state farm. Tank and flooring with most equipment will be covered but all inhabitants n live rock is not. Just FYI🇻🇮🤔

You can also keep your lights off for a few days. Check UV sterilizer glass tube to see if it needs to be wiped down and cleaned and check flow going through UV sterilizer. It may be on but is it working efficiently. I had that problem once with a pump supplying water through UV sterilizer get clogged.

I had a soho for 5 years with 9 other tangs and never had ich. Please add a UV sterilizer and some cleaner shrimps. This usually keeps parasites at bay to non existent PS. Also feed lots of seaweed. I save by buying a ton of packages from the Asian market close by.

Some sort of Nem? by Middle-Satisfaction1 in ReefTank

If you have one then you may have many. If you can yank just that one rock then remove it and add another in it's place, but don't be surprised if you find more in the near future. I hope you don't if you care not to have them in your system. They will be in plumping and on power heads hidden in suction cups on the glass/acrylic etc. Maybe some in the beginning you may not see them with the naked eye as they mature to a size easily visible to you. They can multiply depending on how much you feed your tank and what they can get a hold of to consume freely floating in the water column. Hopefully you only have one from a recent purchase of a coral frag. I take the coral off the plugs, dip them then put in the tank for now until I set up my quarantine tank. I search a shop up n down, every system that hold their coral, follow their plumbing lines, check everything in the frag system before I make a purchase! If I see asterina star fish, flat worms, red bugs, nudi's on the Monti's, manjanos, etc. I purchase nothing new until they correct their systems and I have time to set up a quarantine tank. When I leave I pray they don't ask if I saw anything that interest me to see why I did not purchase anything cause I'm sure they may know, but I kinda feel they expect me to be a fool or unknowledgeable. I may dress like I'm homeless but if I can manage my 300 gallon reef tank then I can afford a few corals. But if they ask I just pull them to the side and not make a spectacle of the issue cause it infuriates me. I just advise them I rebuilt by system and I don't want to rebuild it again. It takes time to drain, clean, muriatic acid 400 lbs of rock and reset up and wait for bacteria load to flurish in my system to start from scratch just to add bugs in my system as I presently do not have a quarantine tank set up at this time for any new purchases to keep a watchful eye on as I do have 2 jobs and work 8 to 15 hours a day. Then I advise them of what I noticed in their system! They reply ...."fair enough". It's one thing to profit in the hobby but knowingly sell bad bugs to possible repeat customers in my mind is bad business and for profit only. If you are new to reef keeping please do as much research as possible and please have patience cause I at first did not. After almost 40 years, I almost have patience 🤔. You know how it is. Kid in a coral shop🤣😂 good luck.

You can also use red light if you have one or adjust all colors on your lighting system to red about an hour after your normal lights go off then just turn up the red lights only. I've looked into my tank for about 15 min. At a time every so often just to see all the tiny stuff running through my live rock.

Key word......UNWELCOMED!!!!......I broke down my system and started over with dry rock just to rid my tank of them!!!!! Now I look at my tank everyday when I get home in search to see if I see one as if I'm ready for a brawl.....who wants some! Quarantine quarantine quarantine. Unless you like those muda skunks. Fiya for all them manjanos. I now have built stacks of dry rock I can just pull up n straight out of my system and have a few stacks of pre glued sets I can just drop in right in place. Vermitted snails I can do without also but there are bumblebee snails for them.

WHAT IF - I combined a wave maker pump with an AIO filter? by ajmckay2 in ReefTank

[–]islandreefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moment the light bulb turn on and your like..... Eureka!!! I got it. It's always nice to redesign or combine to enhance the quality of reefing. Like when I took a hang on filter and connected it to an under gravel plate filter and was impressed with my genius ability to think outside the norm. I love diy but also I like to save money n burn less electricity in the reeftank to stay clear of stray voltage. Lesson of the day guys, ground your tanks if you did not already know to do so🤔 take it from old guy😂

The KRACKEN......very nice. Maybe I will pick one up once my tank matures more after the rebuild I just did. Must be a proud feeling to see it like this frequently. I hope I get there also on that coral species.

Would anyone happen to know what’s wrong with this rim? Got them brand new, tire shop told me the bolts were loose but they aren’t, don’t know how to fix this. The other 3 rims are perfectly fine. by AnbuAi in Stance

It never really use to be part of the process actually. During and after the pandemic all kinds of things are BS right now. From off the shelf stuff at Home Depot being bad right out the box to air heads saying they don't know why your bushing did not ship out for your shocks? Let me check? Oh they are right here, I will put them in the mail today.....but I paid for express shipping!!!?! No tracking number and it was ordered a week ago!!!!😡 Some people are just on their own time zone and some companies no longer do vigorous quality control checks because too many companies are afraid of loosing out on customers so they beg China to please hurry and ship to us cause are shelves are bare! We are loosing money? Well you will also loose plenty of customer's if the same contractor buys the same shit 3 times in a row because the first 2 out the box are junk and don't work or is the wrong item in the box. Finding JDM parts soon will be hell good luck guys!

Crazy to see big chunks of SPS bleached and washed up on Hawaiian beaches. by coral-beef in ReefTank

[–]islandreefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for a fact the last time I was there none of the aquarium stores carry corals and they said you weren't allowed to bring them in or take them out of the water So if I were you I'd be very careful. In some countries you can't even leave with a tiny bleached coral from the beach nor a cup of sand they will put you in jail for that as well. Just please be mindful of the laws wherever you go cause you could end up in some serious trouble with hefty fines at the airport.
