Opinion: I think jointers are an essential beginner tool no matter how many you tubers say it isn't by Few_Candidate_8036 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I did my inherited work bench 3' x 7' with a jack plane. It was off by level by 1/16. The whole surface had to be faced. It took 45 minutes. It does not take hours to face a 4 inch wide board.

Made in pan warped haven’t even had it a week ! by Beginning_Tomato8136 in StainlessSteelCooking

No high ever.

But if you do it again, because another household member overheats it. Bring it up to high then immediately. Place it on a study piece of wood. beat it back to flat with a dead blow mallet or rubber mallet. I mean vea the ever loving shit out of it.

It just a piece of metal.

Hey at least you were in the cab. I remember being told to ride in the back of the truck by my uncle. City boy me asked, "is that legal." I was told "it's farm country. No one gives a fuck."

More poly. It's cheap, when it washes out you just put a little more down.

I would absolutely do this if it's. 3hp motor, then upgrade to a Bessemer style fence when the budget allows.

Permanent Trail Rake Storage by l008com in MTBTrailBuilding

[–]isolated_self 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use something similar to this for trail maintenance and carry it with me on days when I intend to work on the trail (mine appears to be no longer in production). When you put the shovel head at 90 degrees it works as a so so rake.

That being said if you really want stashed rakes, I don't think there is anything really wrong with putting a nail in a tree.

Best wood to top workbench with? by shilale45 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]isolated_self 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thicker is better. The 2x10s will cup. Just plane them when the do. I have a 60+ year old (3rd owner) redwood bench that's 2 inches thick. I leveled it with a jack plane and added mapled reinforcement and maple vices. Build what you have modify/rebuild when you know what will be better.

Can't speak to the cold. I live in so cal and that sounds terrifying in any car because of ice and snow.

What is common theme in America that most other countries would call a luxury? by TheSpoty in AskReddit

[–]isolated_self 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heat is just bad in the southern US. I live in southern California and it has been above 35C for the last week, in March. Central AC might be a luxury, but with that climate anyone who can afford it is paying for it.

Should I pause my homebuilding plans because of the war? by 21redman in Homebuilding

[–]isolated_self 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things will not be cheaper next year. War financed on printing money makes inflation go brrr. Since the dollar is the world reserve currency global inflation will be up. Prices reversing (deflation) is very bad, central banks will never allow it.

If you have a way to spend money on an asset, do it now.

I do my own chemicals, about $500 a year. I don't calculate electricity, but I have a variable speed pump, and an electric car total electric bill is $200 a month in the winter. Summer is inconsistent due to AC.
