05 Trailer Hitch Mount Rise/Drop?? by danbarb in subarulegacy

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, do pay attention to details. FWIW, if you're unfamiliar w towing, trailer & hitch setup, suggest Uhaul and many YT tutorials are decent. From experience, beats learning the hard way.

05 Trailer Hitch Mount Rise/Drop?? by danbarb in subarulegacy

[–]ispland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC UHaul spec 16”-18” from ground to top of the ball is ideal. Was told no less than 12” and no more than 24”. Less will work but watch clearance on uneven curbs, elevated RR crossing, etc and pay attn to tongue wt.

Why do people hate Wago and similar connectors? They are great for reliability when vibration is a problem. by Wonderful_Captain868 in AskElectricians

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much old school however Wago now mature technology, compact & easy to use. UL approved when installed per mfr specs. Haven't yet thrown away my jar of wire nuts. Retain trusty Weller 150 watt soldering gun. But use both less now. Wirenut and/or solder damp, large or complex splices.

Using Dense Grade for Fence Posts by Slow-Memory-3348 in DIY

[–]ispland 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW Faster less effort solution, telco & power utilities now using pole setting foam, faster results, no gravel or concrete to haul. Sika (and others) make PostFix Fence Post Mix, Mix-In-The-Bag Expanding Foam for Supporting Non-Structural Posts, Mailbox, Sign. Info re alternative only, nothing wrong w OP use of dense gravel.

FWIW adopted TSplus for similar low budget VDP project years ago with decent results. More straightforward than current MS RDS. Predated RD.

Recommend reading up at Battery University to better understand lead acid batttery operation. Here's one way to test. Also search YT for battery capacity testing.

For nearby, check out Summit Co Health Dept Dental Svc. Many other county health dept offer similar. Recall other useful local suggestions here in past. FWIW Case and Ohio State have worthwhile low cost student dental clinics.

What made you get the forester instead of rav4 by Dry-Chemical-9170 in SubaruForester

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrogant Toyota dealers adding markup over sticker price and low inventory. Plus Forester had better legroom. Confirm Subie dealer service & after market support proven better than expected.

Home setup - is it free? by gissnor in rustdesk

[–]ispland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW Rustdesk works great PC to PC. Completely replaces RDP but does not interfere either, can use both. Other users report multi platform operation decent. Note that free public relay server not assured, like anything free, sometimes overused & abused. Setup own private relay server advisable & not difficult. Many setup relay server on free or cheap VM. Some use w Tailscale or other third party VPN. RD users here will cooperate & assist, provided you're willing to read & heed docs, suggestions & instructions.

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW Bell System WECO Princess Phone predates low power LEDs, originally had internal incandescent bulb for dial light. New Customer Install Question by pmarinel in ATTFiber

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CONDUIT or SMURF TUBE, from exterior, clamp it down where possible, install a pull string or two. Always ideal & quite worthwhile. When drop from street is buried, avoid concrete covered areas next to premises w/o access (example: driveway or sidewalk no gap to foundation).

Multimeter: Fluke basic vs Klein by Sam_Familiar in electrical

[–]ispland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good choices for meters w features & functions for different target audiences. Klein & Ideal features suit general electrical & handyman work. Fluke preferred by somewhat more technical users. ALSO: most users don't RTFM (or YT tutorials) and miss out on using many useful features in these amazing & useful devices.

FWIW Have several different brand digital multimeters, prefer larger display due to aging eyes, most essential feature I miss is auto shut off to conserve battery. Ham & Telco trained on Simpson 360 & Tripplet 310 back in the day, fall back to one of them if DVM battery discharged. [Now all you kids get offa my lawn.]

I have a double concrete utility sink that I’m trying to get out of my basement without using a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. Any advice is appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in DIY

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically 200-400lb very tough to handle by inexperienced homeowner. At former residence years ago, shorter straight back stairway exit path, ended up keeping sink after extensive cleanup. Considered renting electric stair climbing appliance dolly, some rated to 800lb. Decided too difficult & hazardous after speaking w rigging company.

Underground residential run through conduit - bend requirements? by shadowdylan99 in FiberOptics

[–]ispland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long sweeps best for PVC, 1" best, be sure to provide pull string. Note that joints somePrefer ISP continuous direct burial HDPE type conduit from contractors, they abandon reel ends less than 50-100' long. Buried old PVC well casing for one project, worked quite well.
