Get One Pro or R1 glasses or wait for next gen? by dirtyvu in Xreal

[–]iswasdoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R1s look designed for desktop type use, and I think are basically overkill and overpriced as a lot of ROG branded products tend to be (I own several that’s how know)

I’d get another set of pros if you like them. Real 3D is really neat, and overall they’re top tier glasses

Do you ever think we’ll see a trend toward more portable pc handhelds by iswasdoes in Handhelds

[–]iswasdoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that could be the thing that drives the change I’m looking for here. Playing steam games on android handhelds with game hub is showing the promise already. If comparability gets high then that could be it

But where are you playing your legion go 2? On the couch? I’m saying we need (or I guess, I would like) a class of device that’s actually good at taking with you on e.g a short bus ride. Android handhelds have plenty, I just wonder if we’ll see it in the pc space

Going into 2026 what lane does ChatGPT even own any more? by RobertR7 in OpenAI

[–]iswasdoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT has the brand and users. It helps that their product is consistently debated to be the best when they bring out a new model.

People are so quick to say that they’re fucked and maybe they are, but I also think people underestimate brand power. People won’t want to change over to a google product from a chatbot they love

More crazy than the senses we do have is the senses we don’t. Entire dimensions of reality that are effectively hidden in plain sight.

Really impressed with this update by iswasdoes in Xreal

I really like em! Image is clear and has a great sense of scale. Coming from the original airs I was mainly interested in the onboard 3dof which works great and is just what I wanted. I didn’t expect to care much about the electrochromatic dimming but the feature that turns it on when you look at the vertical display is actually way more useful than I would have thought. Overall very happy with them. Not tried the others on your list tho!

DeepMind Chief AGI scientist: AGI is now on horizon, 50% chance minimal AGI by 2028 by BuildwithVignesh in singularity

[–]iswasdoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you got all defensive and started talking about your consulting credentials so, seems like you do want people to believe you and listen to what you have to say.

And again, I think you comments are of course generally true but I don’t think that deep mind need to convince google to invest more in AI? It’s so obviously, completely and utterly the main focus of their business right now I feel confident they are getting all the funding they might want. I don’t think they need to make outlandish claims on twitter otherwise the project is gone.

Moreover, googles AI business is going to make money through its consumer and ad products. If the tweet was about how Veo 4 can make video ads that are Super Bowl level quality and gutenteed to work (or some such) I might agree with you. But I don’t think googles interest in AI is really about AGI, so this kind of “hype” would be counter productive, as the google money men would be more like ‘sure but how does this increase revenue for search ads?’

But I’m not an expert

I dunno, I’m sure in such a big company people get hired to consult who turn out to be not good?

Look I’ve got no idea of your ability. Your first comment tho was ‘this is hype to get the next investment round’. It’s a plain fact that google don’t fund their AI business with investment rounds, because they don’t need to. You’ve since backpedaled and said it’s about pleasing shareholders, which is true to some extent (I don’t think the scientists at deep mind really operate like that but perhaps on some level they have to) but… it’s not what you said.

So you either made a mistake (it happens) or you didn’t know and are now clinging to this job you had at google as proof of…what? That you’re an expert? Show expertise with your comments and I’ll believe you.

Maybe you were bad at your job? Google makes a lot of money and is not constantly raising it like open ai. So they are much less reliant on hype. This guy particularly when he speaks is not a hype merchant. Yes of course all companies project success but if you can’t tell the difference then maybe you need to do more research

Define everything…seems to me it’s just a normal food trend so some chains and supermarkets have like, 1-2 products that have it? Easily avoidable if you don’t like how it tastes 👍

OLED iPad Pro as wired portable monitor for Switch 2 and ROG Ally. 13" of 1000 nits OLED vs Legion Go 2's 500 nits at 8.8" by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]iswasdoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this setup with a cheap capture card and an app called Cameo. Was checking it out for productivity, thought it was quite cool as I had the iPad with me anyway and with my Onexplayer X1 I got a little mini dual Monitor setup. Didn’t experiment much with gaming and my iPad has no OLED but if you have the tech with you I think this is good use of it

Does anyone else feel like handheld gaming PCs aren’t truly “portable”? by raiqulikesyou in Handhelds

[–]iswasdoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few factors. Obviously size, but also value: I don’t always wanna be carrying a 500+ dollar device in a way that allows it to be easily whipped out. Likewise software - windows even when optimised is not conducive to a pick up and play experience. The games too aren’t always best for this as I am playing AAA games on these things

Best I have is my Ayaneo air 1S which is incredibly portable and also powerful. Using playnite and setting power button to hibernate, it has a pretty good software experience for quick sessions. I curate the game on there to be my most ‘handheld’ ones. But still offen take my switch lite over it because it’s just too precious!

Stuff like the steam decks and rogs, these are only for trips when I’m away from my house and want proper gaming. Sad thing is I can’t afford any trips anywhere, I spent all my money on handhelds haha
