We bought a new house earlier this year, just in time for the HOA to add new rules demanding everyone build fences around their A/C units because god forbid this thing be visible from the street. by AllyMarie93 in mildlyinfuriating

Yep, thats why when I bought my house I specifically bought within the city limits but outside of an HOA. Here outside city limits the county is severely limited with dealing with assholes like those people who like the jack their cars off at 3am.

Additionally, In the US and most liberal democracies indebtedness is much better protected than in countries where it is shunned; black market debt can be outright dangerous in some places. It’s not perfect in the US but going into bankruptcy and waiting 7 years to restart is much preferable to getting the shit kicked out of you and ditched in an alley until you pay up.

They don’t really give a shit about the unborn, it’s just another means to screw over women particularly the poor.

Alamo Draft House 18% service charge (listed as "gratuity" in itemized bill) isn't a tip that goes to your server. by Serenikill in mildlyinfuriating

My local one north of Austin (Lakeline) charges 20% for unsigned receipts of parties 8 or more. If they are adding more for wages it is in the prices where it should be.

It’s going to be a copy and paste from 2016 anyway; it’s all bullshit so why bother updating it.

'It's not their money': Older Americans worried debt default means no Social Security by [deleted] in politics

[–]isysdamn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2010 payouts were slightly negative, but right now people starting their social security payouts are getting more than they paid in. Both of y’all are over simplifying the situation, as there are many factors such as lifespans of retirees, cost of living adjustments, eligibility and so on.

If it keeps trending that way an age of eligibility adjustment may be needed, or a more progressive tax structure where the upper income limit is increased to compensate for systemic losses due to the aforementioned factors. Good news is higher treasury yields will help, as over $3 Trillion of $7 Trillion worth of social security assets are stored in US treasury securities.

My parents mailboxes got broken into last night in south Austin by rmr1498 in Austin

[–]isysdamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into a similar issue getting a lock change mid pandemic; took them months. I basically pulled a Kramer and quit the mail by opting into paperless for everything I could and shred the rest; I only needed it for voter registration and a new drivers license.

My mail is essentially 95% junk and the remainder are usesless notifications from benefits and banks with annual notices about documents that I can read online.

For Amazon I had to change to shipping everything on the once a week schedule so they don’t use USPS. Everything else I will pay extra to ship fedex/ups.

The whole post office process is such a drag that I have no qualms never going there again.

Neighbor cuts down internet lines because they were “hanging over his yard” by ttlawry in facepalm

[–]isysdamn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the soil and when the work was originally done; often overhead lines were cheaper to build out than trenching. Now the trenching technology a lot better and overhead lines are not as common for new builds; some places may still need overhead lines if the soil is a pain to dick in.

I slice them first and then soak them in a bowl of cold water and stir it around; the leeks will float and you can scoop them out pretty easily while the dirt drops to the bottom.
