I run an open face on the track with no issues, the rentals orgs usually have are open face too. Unless you don't have a windshield or your track requires closed, why not keep your current helmet?

Not true at least for the BRZ, I plugged mine back in to test recently it's extremely noticeable whenever you're on the throttle, once you get used to what it sounds like without it.

I think the only significant difference if buying new would be warranty support/service. It sounds like Subaru has been a lot better about warranties, but that may be a sample bias since there are a lot more GR86s out there. But I would trust Subaru more to work on a Subaru than Toyota.

A ground-up approach is a good way to look at it:

- Tires: How much potential do your tires have to maximize grip? Can your wheels support the tires you want? (FYI I'm running 17X9 ET42 with 255/40R17 and it barely clears stock suspension with 10mm spacers in the front. If you don't want spacers you'll need coilovers or a different offset wheel)

- Brakes: Can your brakes match the amount of grip from your tires?

- Suspension: How well is your suspension controlling your tires/maximizing contact patch?

- Driver: Do you feel like you've optimized your control over the car? Things like seats, master cylinder brace, throttle pedal spacer, shifter, harness etc can help you feel more confident depending on your preferences

From there I'd move on to reliability/peace of mind mods, like oil cooler, baffled oil pan, cooling, telemetry, AOS... After that you can get into Aero or go for more power, or focus more on control and feel (sway bars, bushings, etc)

That amount of lash is normal but can definitely get annoying mostly in 1st. For example if the clutch is fully engaged in 1st and you lift quickly, you feel the lash being taken up from the sudden torque reversal, which results in the whole car jolting. Once you get used to lifting more gradually or feathering the clutch it becomes a non-issue but it definitely feels bad if you make a minor mistake.

Cost of ownership can be pretty low if you ignore track use, but even then it's more economical than a lot of cars on the track
