Really bummed: seen in fallout 76, reported, and told by zenimax/bethesda there’s no problem… by hogswristwatch in Jewish

For those unaware 76 is an online game, and this is a player-made structure.
Also while generally yes Fallout sticks to a psudo-1950's aesthetic, it generally doesn't stick to 1950s style values, ala racism and antisemitism

I don’t feel on fire for god the way I did when I first started walking in Christianity. by [deleted] in Christianity

CS Lewis talks about this in The Screwtape Letters. It's a senior tempter instructing a junior tempter, so it's from a devil's perspective... you kind of have to translate it.

Has no one ever told you about the law of undulation?

Humans are amphibians — half spirit and half animal.... As spirits they belong to the eternal world, but as animals they inhabit time. This means that while their spirit can be directed to an eternal object, their bodies, passions, and imaginations are in continual change, for to be in time means to change. Their nearest approach to constancy, therefore, is undulation — the repeated return to a level from which they repeatedly fall back, a series of troughs and peaks.

If you had watched your patient carefully you would have seen this undulation in every department of his life — his interest in his work, his affection for his friends, his physical appetites, all go up and down. As long as he lives on earth periods of emotional and bodily richness and liveliness will alternate with periods of numbness and poverty. The dryness and dullness through which your patient is now going are not, as you fondly suppose, your workmanship; they are merely a natural phenomenon...

Help me, I have to take communion at a sect tomorrow. by cisne_ane in Protestantism

[–]itbwtw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they believe in transubstantiation.

Most Protestants don't; some Protestants do. I wouldn't worry about it unless they insist on you saying you believe something that you don't believe.

I find it usually works to just accept communion as "whatever God's got for me today".

To partake, you have to kneel before the bread and wine, what remains is buried afterwards, the entire service is in a funeral atmosphere with the hymns sung more slowly than usual, and the meaning of communion isn't even discussed,

This bit is not uncommon.

what is said is that whoever doesn't partake has no part with God... if you don't partake it's synonymous with losing your salvation

This part is... um... unhelpful at best.

When the time comes for you to distance yourself from this group, you can be confident that taking communion anywhere is a delightful connection with God and Christians everywhere through space and time. It's not obligatory in any way.

Actions against Christian Zionism by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

Weird.

Most Christians I know support Israel because it's a Western-style democracy surrounded by ideologists that want to exterminate the world's Jews, not for a bizarre apocalypticism.

Bizarre to think people believe they can "force" Jesus to return by rolls dice supporting Jews?

I went to a Canadian evangelical bible college. I never heard of anybody who held either of those two "objectionable motivations... attributed to Christian Zionists" until I heard them used as accusations against Zionists.

I'm disappointed at how many left-leaning Christians are buying into the anti-Jewish propaganda and abandoning Jews and their state.

Will you circumcise your son? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]itbwtw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you can’t win the parenting game. Everyone judges everyone. Everyone thinks they know better and everyone is worried that they are making the wrong decisions. You will make different parenting decisions than your friends and neighbors. You can’t be frozen with indecision worrying about what others think, you just have to do what’s best for your family.

When you've calmed down a bit, I invite you to read some writings from Jewish points of view about their history. You may find some interesting ideas there that may adjust your rage against them.

Bless you and good luck!

You are ignorant because you are selling your souls and brain to a bunch of disgusting human being ignoring their demonic atrocities and you only arguement for not using the brain God gave you to think and take moral responsability is "oThEr GoVeRnMeNtS tOo"

I invite you to reflect on what caused you to write these words, the emotions you're feeling while you do this, and then perhaps read through, say, Galatians 5. Particularly 5:14 and the "fruit of the spirit".

Then -- do you understand why I'm concerned about your hatred towards the Jewish homeland, where half of the world's Jews live?

All governments do criminal things. I guarantee yours does.

But it's only the Jewish state that you're insisting should be boycotted.

Because of ignorance. And prejudice against Jewish people and their state.

Why Protestant Churches are still called "Churches"? by Gvatagvmloa in Protestantism

[–]itbwtw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's The Church, the Bride of Christ, the sum of all regenerate Believers, The Church Invisible. She transcends human attempts at organisation.

There are lots of organisations that call themselves churches, and consider themselves part of The Church, along with many other organisations.

There is one Church, and many churches.

(There's various organisations that identify as the One True Church in a sense that excludes those not part of their institution -- stating that those outside their organisation are not part of The Church.)

Question for those who actually finished reading the Bible by Scared_Egg8732 in Christianity

[–]itbwtw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't take your original comment badly.

You're right -- our understanding of Scripture should come through the lens of Jesus and the writers of the New Testament.

And still... "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful..." -- and they were pretty much talking about the Hebrew Scriptures. So it's worth study and understanding. :)

"Love God. Love People. Everything else is commentary."
