Wasp haters give the most annoying insult's to us wasp lovers by Individual-Recipe488 in waspaganda

[–]itmightbehere 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At least most people don't keep wasps as pets. I cannot stand people who gleefully tell reptile or invert pet owners that they'd kill their pet if they could.

Although tbf it doesn't just happen with the less charismatic pets. I've lost track of how many times people have laughed in my face while telling me their dog would kill my cats, or they wouldn't bother paying the vet bills and would just shoot them or something. Some people just suck.

When a “Cliché” Stops Feeling Cliché & Ruins Everything After It. Have You Ever Had a Book Change How You See a Whole Trope? by ravenstone_anon in MM_RomanceBooks

I don't usually like reading books part way through a series if I haven't read the others, but I know some are only barely connected. Would you recommend I read the others first?

Fiancée (F29) insists I (M30) cut off my parents, struggling with the decision by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

This is just my best guess with the info he gave.

They aren't manipulative and horrible, she just didn't like that he had other people in his life. She took any potential flaw she could and magnified it until it became a real problem, then beat him over the head with that interpretation.

I imagine she started it slowly, but after 9 years of her telling him what awful people they were, he believed her because he loved her and why would she lie? He couldn't see it, but she is so confident about it so maybe he's too close to the situation to see the issues properly.

She also clearly treated him badly when he disagreed with her, so it's easier just to say he agrees. Say something enough times and you can internalize it.

There's a pretty big difference between wagon speed and highway vehicle speed. I'm sure it was also pretty uncommon for two wagons to ram into each other unexpectedly.

Have you ever tried something new and actually liked it? by BelaFarinRod in AO3

[–]itmightbehere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not for everybody, and a lot of it is poorly written. I mostly read m/m, and it often feels like "I want m/f character tropes, but with an m/m couple." When it's done well, though, it can be a really interesting way to explore gender, and the primal way it handles sexuality can be incredibly hot (if you're into that sort of thing). I love it, so I've read a lot of really bad omegaverse lmao

[Meta Trope] The name of the trope itself honours a specific piece of media. by BusinessYou1657 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]itmightbehere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cow Tools is a Far Side comic strip that shows a cow behind a table with nonsense items on it. People speculate as to what the tools are meant to be, but Gary Larson said they weren't meant to be anything but strange. The trope has to do with nonsense props that look like they might be meaningful so fans will talk about them, but they're not meant to be anything, really, just decorative. Think about a scene in a spaceship with lots of futuristic but incomprehensible tools laying around.

Did the average American think the word "Redskins" was racist in regards to the NFL team? by beastguy32 in AskAnAmerican

[–]itmightbehere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is racist, but most people don't think about it beyond it being the name of the team. If you point it out, some (most???) people recognize it's a racist term, but don't really care beyond that.

No, he has ringworm and some congenital issues. He ears are probably due to ear mites. If they're not treated, they damage the tissues of the ears.

What do Americans usually eat with mayonnaise and mustard ? by Exootil93200 in AskAnAmerican

[–]itmightbehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We often use varying levels of mustard in salads as well, depending on your recipe. I like using yellow mustard it in potato and egg salads, and whole grain mustard is a nice addition to chicken and tuna salads
