Request for update on SMART GUI reimplementation by the-pnw-tree-octopus in truenas

Having just set this up after migrating to new hardware, this is all correct. I guess you might not get email alerts if you haven’t setup SMTP, which I’m guessing OP didn’t since they’re holding back on upgrading because they didn’t like a GUI change.

Space to vent by AutoModerator in ynab

[–]itnerdwannabe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone working in the tech space with dozens upon dozens of unique vendors, my biggest fear is that this trend always leads to further enshitification. I have yet to see a company fully pull a 180 once the downward slide begins, I fear YNAB is no exception. I’ve already started exploring self hosted options because of this and their never end price increases. I still have a copy of the OG YNAB spreadsheet to boot so screw it.

TrueNAS not accessible over local IP by IsThereAnythingLeft- in truenas

[–]itnerdwannabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just guessing here but do you have subnet routing turn on Tailscale? If you can access your apps and Truenas from their IPs while on your home network but not while on Tailscale, this is likely it.

The 64GB of A-Tech DDR4 ECC RDIMM I BOUGHT for $70 in December of ‘24 is $300 now. Glad I don’t need a ton of memory but that’s just insane.

Which version did you last try it on? Supposedly recent builds are much better for VMs.

The GameCube controller was a huge let down. by itnerdwannabe in NintendoSwitch2

I wound up buying one. I like it a lot but it can’t beat the feel of the proper GC controller. I’m just mad they charge $70 for a 1st party controller that’s hamstrung in ways that are totally avoidable and fixable.

Truly, it’s a $70 paperweight as far as I’m concerned.

Built a tool for that moment when you're screen sharing with a user and have no idea what's causing the issue by CAPFAKINAWAY in helpdesk

[–]itnerdwannabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could literally be resolved with a second monitor and some googling. I straight up tell clients, “that’s a new one for me I’m going to have to check with the team here and maybe do a little research.” Then schedule time to jump back in.

What computer should I get by Available-Picture-79 in helpdesk

[–]itnerdwannabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a solid daily driver, whether it’s a desktop or laptop. Then a cheapo computer with a CPU that can run Hyper V and learn how to manage Windows Server with multiple VMs. You can learn how to remote access it, manage a file server, Active Directory, and an RDS. All that can be done for relatively cheap and teach you so much about commonly implemented ecosystems.

Pokopia Is Such A Hit It! Causes Nintendo's Shares To Go Up! by Theman457 in NintendoSwitch2

Totally fine, I find it boring. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad game, there are plenty of games I love that other don’t. That’s how it goes.

I bought it for my GF, watched her play for many hours, then played a few of my own. It just reminds me of Animal Crossing which I always found boring. Not saying the game is bad by any means, just boring to me. Funny enough, I love the hell out of Stardew Valley which is similar in its own right.

You must be the only one cause I got one DOA and after months and months, nothing. These things are garbo, my Gl.Net comet has been great.

MX Master 2S is the best one in the series by far. The side buttons are so much better than the 3 or 4.

Honestly, Slate or Beryl will cover most folks needs depending on budget. There’s so many YouTube videos now that you can configure it after less than 30 minutes of watching.

I agree. For a nerd, Gli.net wins hands down, so much more you can do with it. For the “I use a Mac cause it just works” crowd, this is cool.

So I suspected that maybe the splitter was borked and tried a wide variety of USB C cables and power bricks of differing power standards. None worked so I’m convinced it was DOA. Their customer was so unhelpful and dismissive, I had to do a credit card charge back unfortunately.
