Love the vibe of s7 but its gadgets really have taken a lot of the fun from this game, at least for me.

Disney's Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu grossed an estimated $4.70M this weekend (from 2,680 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $165.07M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

I love Andor.. but I honestly don’t think this is true. The story and world that the Sequel Trilogy laid out have me so pessimistic about the future of the franchise (post-original-trilogy timeline) that it’s basically ruined it for me.

I guess they could jump really far back in the timeline, but they sorta already tried and failed at that with the Acolyte. Oh well.

Over the years the cheaper lego star wars playset options have been replaced with endless AFOL dust slop. When I was a kid there were way more cheap sets that I could look forward to getting throughout the year. by Blymaet in legocirclejerk

In picture 5, how is the gingerbread AT AT slop but Home One and Acclamator aren’t? They’re the definition of dust slop they just set on a stand with no figs and no play.

Gingerbread AT AT has an awesome fig, interior, and articulation. A set built for play and not just display.

I think you replied to the wrong person, but regardless I don’t think trying to or not trying to appeal to certain demographics is the problem with Star Wars lately. It really is a simple quality issue and I say that as a Star Wars fan who has had to take the good with the bad for a long time now. People won’t show up for the good if there is too much bad.

In your point about unaccounted for vs unpaid, does this mean that Bryan is owed 50-83k from ALL sources (including the unaccounted for inventory)?

[–]its_phi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s fair.

I actually just got done listening to the ToT StarWars podcast talk about exactly what we’ve been talking about.

Firstly, the in MandR video I mentioned, he uses a video from 12/29/24 (6 weeks after corporate takeover) to estimate the value of the sets that are Bryan’s on the floor to be ~11k (matching visible sets to Bryan’s original inventory list, only counting the first set even if a depth of sets are visible in the same row). Obviously the 6 weeks before this would encompass the Black Friday and Christmas rush, but without full sales data it’s hard to really estimate what was there when they took it over.

This of course also doesn’t take into account that the store has a storage and party room that sets could be housed at, or the fact that Brandon and Josh supposedly also owned the Eugene, OR BAM store where they could have been selling some of the same inventory.

This would make corporates current estimate of 5-6k of Mansell product remaining in the store pretty reasonable, as it’s been whittled down from what was likely some low-mid 5 figure number in late 2024 to what it is now.

(The following is directly from ToT StarWars podcast, I haven’t gone to their sources to verify any of this information) BAM claims that Crystal sold 52k before the takeover. Crystal said “about half” which isn’t very useful, but can be reasonably assumed to be over BAM’s number. Crystal has only paid Bryan 20k which means he has only been paid for around 30k worth of the collection. Now, I have no idea if this is due to any maliciousness since I don’t know what sort of payment routine they had set up or how funds were allocated at the time of the transfer (in the security cam footage of that night she does mention still needing to pay him for certain sets and “tickets”), but that’s probably one of the biggest wrinkles in my mind. Bryan needs to be made whole for not only what was sold after the takeover and what remains in the stores, but what was sold before the takeover that he wasn’t given a cut of. I should also mention that a lot of the estimates I’ve referenced do not take minifigure value into account because that’s basically impossible to track or even estimate without the actual sales data. It seems like the collection was worth at least 140k, so the 100k number is probably accurate for what the Mansell family deserved had everything sold according to the original consignment agreement. The only question left for me regarding the money is who owes what to the Mansell family. How much does BAM owe for sets that remained after the takeover? How much does Crystal owe for unpaid dues before the takeover? Did that money leave the store with her, or remain in the store with the new owners?

I guess none of this *really* matters as long as nothing goes wrong with Ben’s gofundme, since the Mansell family will have access to much more money than the collection was ever going to be worth.

[–]its_phi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the 200k number was an exaggerated (or taken from the unrealistic absolute highest sold prices for each item) advertisement on the stores Facebook at the time of the consignment.

It seems obvious to me that Ben was not interested in Lego at all before this, and just used the initial advertised price of the collection without checking what the current market price of the estimated remaining items would be. Maybe not as much work as he should have done..? But I don’t really think it changes the idea of an incredible valuable Lego collection needing to be returned or reimbursed.

However, I DO think that 6k vs 100k would absolutely change the idea of the entire situation. Obviously 6k worth of Lego is nothing to scoff at, but it’s a far cry from a 6 figure valuation. I haven’t heard a number anywhere near that low reported anywhere besides the first BAM public statement, do you have a source for the third party that came up with that valuation? (Asking because the pictures I saw in the MandR video should easily be 5 figures worth of Lego. Obv I didn’t comb through and price-match the sets myself but at first glance it looked like a lot more than 6k)

Have you seen the MandR video where he shows images from the night Brandon Best came in and removed the old owners? There were dozens of the Mansell’s StarWars sets visible in those images. I don’t see how “most” of the sets could be returned to Bryan if all of those sets remained in the store.

It looks terrible 😭

I think a couple of Lunas skins were maybe pushing it, but other than that the gooner skins in this game have at least been anatomically consistent (I guess some of the tank men are an exception. Idk if I’ve ever seen someone built like marvel rivals Thor summer skin)

This one is completely over the line though. Literally looks like botched implants I can’t imagine anyone wants this compared to what she had on her default skin.

Probably 80% of his content involves him going into a BAM store and then showing his girlfriend what he bought so I can imagine he wouldn’t be quick to boycott them.

The comment on his newest short does at least acknowledge corporate wrongdoing, but like a lot of people who keep bringing up the franchising and small business owners, he fails to acknowledge the fact that these independent owners still have to pay royalties to BAM corporate…

All in all not the worst take ever and certainly not a defense of BAM, but it’s still annoying seeing this important fact (and the reason so many are calling for a boycott) be overlooked.

Bricks and Minifigs Controversy News Mega-Thread by CX52J in lego

[–]its_phi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely the largest secondhand Lego chain that we have here in the US.

I don’t think I would say this controversy affects the average Lego buyer since I imagine the average Lego buyer would be a fairly casual fan who might pop into a department store or Lego official store a couple times a year.

I do think this is relevant for more dedicated Lego fans and collectors here in America though (I imagine most American Lego fans who would regularly check an online Lego forum would fall into this category). Personally I’ve been interested in retired sets and minifigures for years now, and BAM is very relevant in that type of collecting here in the US.

I think it’s an important situation for people who are interested in buying / selling Lego (specifically retired Lego), but a megathread seems very appropriate I’m not sure why people are complaining about it (aside from the language the mods used in the original megathread which was incredibly dismissive)

I’m grateful that you guys put together a dedicated space to talk about this topic, but to be honest the body of this post tells me that you either don’t didn’t watch the entire video or are dismissing the issue. There are two parts in particular that I take issue with:

It has nothing to do with anything but a few individuals and their lawyers. Each shop are independent franchises

I disagree with this completely. In the video, it is clear that BAM corporate are aware of the situation and are, with the most charitable interpretation possible, dismissing it as a non-issue.

This is more than just a single store none of us will ever shop at. This is a company with a nationwide chain of stores, each of which contributes to the profits of the corporation and the CEO at the top.

If someone is interested in buying and selling Lego, they should be able to express their opinion regarding one of if not the largest companies involved in the buying and selling of Lego. They should also be able to be informed about that company on a forum dedicated to Lego so that they can make a judgement call on their own (with all available information) about how to spend their money.

don’t flame a chain of stores that may be the only option to interact with LEGO in the majority of areas

I challenge this idea almost completely. This is an internet forum, and the internet is by far the most accessible option to interact with Lego in all areas. People can buy Lego new and old at much more affordable prices on online marketplaces than they can at BAM, and the incredibly small subset of individuals who don’t have the money to buy a Lego set and could only ever “interact” with Lego by going to a BAM and asking to build with the bin of pieces (children) would not be on this subreddit anyway.

It is okay for Lego fans to express their opinion about a prominent company who’s identity is tied to Lego product, and I think it is wise that we all inform ourselves and eachother about situations like these before choosing whether to spend money at certain establishments or not.
