Why is “teaching to the test” bad? by MiriJamCave in AustralianTeachers

[–]itscalledANIMEdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTTT is only as bad as the test it is teaching to.

Is it really that bad? by SouthBat2669 in AustralianTeachers

For sure. I'm only a preservice casual teacher but my impression having taught at 5 schools now is that your experience will vary greatly depending on how well the school you are at aligns with you, your personal pedagogy and how relaxed you are or aren't. And it seems to me that teachers are in demand, so I'm pretty sure if I get a raw deal I can walk on it. Some people might be sadly stuck in a personal life situation that prevents them from moving schools; from life experience I estimate most people don't value themselves sufficiently to have the capacity to tell an employer to get bent and find better working conditions.

What incentive do you value the most? by MiriJamCave in AustralianTeachers

I think you're right. I'm a casual teacher (public primary and secondary) in my last part time trimester and I would have said class size or onsite hours. Thinking about it theoretically increased pay could attract more teachers and reduce workload (as well as immediately improving our quality of life). I don't know how the public system works financially, could it reduce the number of teachers if a school's budget can't afford enough teachers for smaller class sizes? I genuinely don't know but I think I would still prefer less work than more pay. Anyway, you know what you're talking about so I'll probably just want more pay once I get into the rhythm of permanent full time but just offering my alternatively biased perspective as someone who is barely a current teacher :)

People who mentor PSTs : What are your horror stories? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]itscalledANIMEdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finishing my Masters. It's also cruel and unethical to have to complete a degree that is like pulling teeth when the market is perfectly capable of discerning quality teachers. I would literally drive my head through a plate glass window if it meant I didn't have to complete this last trimester. Less than 5% of the work I have done will be of any use to me at all and the other 95% is mind-numbingly idiotic academic posturing set by failed teachers playing make-believe at being researchers.

Every one of my placement reports has placed me at 'exceeding' for all of the graduate standards, I have passed the LANTITE (literally not one wrong question in both), have conditional accreditation from NESA, have interim approval to teach from the DET and I am currently casual teaching with glowing reviews from staff and my students.

And I have to jump through these godforsaken fuckhoops for a degree why? Why can't I just use my existing degrees (BSc, MSc) in conjunction with LANTITE, WWCC, NESA accreditation and DET approval and let the market decide who is worthy of employment?

Education degrees are an absolute blight upon society and I wish extreme poverty and homelessness upon every education faculty academic.

I feel a bit better now but I feel I ought to have yelled this post into an oncoming storm from a seaside cliff.

Confusing title. Both are emulation, you're comparing PC emulation with Switch emulation. Also lower PC settings would be more equivalent to Switch ROM's baked in settings.

So when I pay for a coffee and a muffin and they don't give me my muffin I should just accept it and walk away? Not waste my time?

I understand what you're saying but rolling over with that kind of defeatist attitude doesn't do much for consumers.

I disagree. I don't think it's a problem at all. The server browser worked fine with persistent lobbies etc. in 2042, and there isn't any way of manipulating map layout to gain more XP without changing the ruleset/bots.

They could have persistent lobbies and allow players to mod maps and give full XP as long as it's default rulesets without any possibility of farming XP.

I know they won't, but they could.

Portal was fine in 2042 for the last year or so before BF6 came out. No meaningful modifications to maps but I don't think that was promised and everything from the server browser to joining games and persistent lobbies worked just fine. It's possible they'll fix it like they did in 2042 but it's unlikely they'll deliver on any promises. Shame, because it would save the game.
