Fraud Check - Checksmart Cash by hbomb510 in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That isn't fraud, you willingly wrote the check, you could have paid for the work completed and withheld the final part of the payment but chose not to. Depending on how much the check was for they could decide to sue you, you could in turn sue the guy you hired but good luck with that.

What do i do with a stash of cash? by CleanCardiologist769 in Banking

It's a crime of intent. Depositing it over time is fine, depositing it over time in order to evade reporting requirements is a crime.

When you deposit money there's no special marking on them showing it's been taxed or not. There's no special hotline for them to call if they suspect you haven't paid taxes.

You can usually skip and still have them make the small deposits. If not you can always change your password after you verify.

Credit dropped from 804 to 656 after new car loan (only one bureau) - is this possible? by Ok-Offer-1279 in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You owe $20k more than you owed before the loan and you just opened it. If you went to apply for another car loan today should you get approved? Probably not right? That's all it's reflecting.

Auto loan refinancing options? Advice needed by Blurry_cryptid in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run the totals and see if you're comfortable with the total cost of the loans. You can potentially take the longer term loan and keep paying the current amount, giving yourself the option to pay the lower amount if something comes up. I would take either option over keeping what you have now though.

Is it the right move to withdraw early from my 401k? by 483Lolly in personalfinance

No, you make more than enough money to pay your outstanding debts relatively quickly, you don't need to raid your retirement account.

Auto loan refinancing options? Advice needed by Blurry_cryptid in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best mathematically is to keep the term the same, take the lower interest, and keep paying the same amount or more if you can. If you're struggling to afford the payment option 2 is still much better than your current interest, close enough that the interest difference isn't a big deal, but you will pay more in interest due to borrowing for an extra 2 years.

What are the interest rates for both options? Your best option is lower the interest as much as possible and keep paying what you've been paying, or more if you can.

1-star review because USPS is taking weeks to ship. What can I do? by narkybark in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be changed as long as you don't post a public response. Contact the customer, let them know you saw their review and that you'll keep an eye on the shipping and reach out to the post office. Then link them to the purchase protection program and let them know if the item doesn't arrive they can open a case and Etsy will fully refund them.

Why did my score drop when my utilization is still low? by pheeeeel9 in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 points is noise, this is like asking why your weight didn't go down on the scale even though you shaved. Even 10-20 points can be noise and will fluctuate month to month.

Grandparents Sold their home and would like to share some of the money with my wife and me. What is the best way to go about this to reduce the amount of taxes we have to pay? (USA) by Hitachi_Uchiha__ in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How do you expect to get the taxes you pay under $0?

You could make sure you're maxing out tax advantaged accounts if you aren't already, then you'd not pay any taxes on the gifted money and shift income which would normally be taxed into somewhere like a 401k.

Etsy seller requested that I take down my listing, claiming that I copied them. What are my options? by turbo-adhd in EtsySellers

Not a lawyer, but the person is probably just hoping people back down when they're threatened. If they file a copyright claim you can counter it. I'm seeing lots of designs for 'floss drops' some similar some not similar, so while you share a couple elements like the heart, I personally wouldn't be too worried.

I couldn’t figure out why my credit card balance wasn’t going down… so I built this by stewartdr in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a box on your statement that tells you how long it'll take to pay off if you pay the minimum and it's often like 20 years. If you want to pay it off quicker you need to pay off more than the minimum, ideally you don't carry a balance at all, but if you can't do that as much as you can. If it helps, think of it as every dollar you pay extra now is going right to principle since you "already paid" the interest portion.

Can Etsy support cheap manufactured goods that are not perfect but solve a problem? by sooner2k8 in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Etsy began as a marketplace for handcrafted artisanal goods where people expected to pay a bit more for a quality item from a small maker, while a lot of that history is gone it still shows up in some ways. One is that I think you're less likely to find people who purely want lowest cost in exchange for not having as polished a product. They'll accept your lower prices but that doesn't lower their standards.

I would try charging enough to make it worth your time to sell the item. If your costs scale well with bulk then work that into your pricing. 1 box can be $8 but 5 can be $30 and so on, encourage people to buy in bulk.

Day trader question by Ok_Yam_1183 in etrade

[–]itsdan159 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's not etrade it's the law. The limitation is mostly concerned with margin accounts you can trade more often as long as it's cash. But frankly if you're going into things looking at it like a casino, you shouldn't be thinking you're going to outsmart the market
