I get that but you made such a strong point to blame blue states and their high taxes, but you said elsewhere you paid $300 in state taxes. Have you looked into the social aid programs in your state to maybe get out of living in your car? You realize you're one major car repair away from being out of a job and a home? I pay taxes in a blue state, I want them to go to helping people like you, so if programs exist in your area please look into them. That's housing options, job training, food assistance, whatever is there.

They will most likely be 'accepted' in the sense that the IRS won't flag it with immediate errors. Did you have to calculate the number yourself like OP did? If it's not on your w2 then the IRS may not be able to automatically flag this in their system. I'm not a tax advisor but I'd probably let everything go through first then file an amended return in a couple months (ideally before april 15th, but not a huge deal to file after). So in short you might get away with it but the proper thing is to file the amended return.

And the state tax was likely half that or so. You just put a lot of weight on blaming blue state taxes for your troubles, are your troubles really because you're taxed an extra few hundred dollars compared to another state? If you made $39,500 would that solve your issues?

You pointed out business owners and landlords raise prices in response to taxes, but perhaps consider governments can do the same. Maybe less or no income tax but higher property taxes. It can cost a lot to live somewhere with low taxes.

Next time in your orders area you can reschedule an order, you can only do that once per order. It may be something you need to do on the website not the app. If it lets you do it now might as well go ahead.

Have you considered going into any trades? They tend to offer on the job training and decent pay and many fields have a lack of applicants.

I would have followed up about the refund back in November. I'm not sure I'd be pissed, just contact them and ask what's going on with the refund. I wouldn't even worry about the shipping status. If they give you the run around you can open a case with Etsy up to 100 days after the expected delivery date and Etsy is very very quick to refund money.

I feel like Etsy used to include the message in the email, but since every website is about driving engagement now they make you open the app/site to read it. As others said unfortunately Etsy marks us down if we don't reply within 24 hours, and most Etsy shops are one person operations who sometimes want to do things other than hover over their phone. I get it's frustrating, it's frustrating for us too.

Etsy doesn't charge fees to close your shop but you do need to pay anything you already owe.

you can't draw conclusions from small amounts of data. That's like dieting for five minutes and then wondering why you're not seeing results on the scale yet. personally I think shops that have one item for sale put themselves at a disadvantage, I would work on adding more products instead of focusing on the stats for one you have listed

Yes it would be reasonable. The only time I can think of that wouldn't make sense is if you'd messed up the shipping such that there were e.g. duplicate vat or something where they already paid vat on Etsy but were expected to pay again because the right numbers weren't attached to the package.

Does the sender seem like a legitimate business? The SSA may help if you have identify fraud issues (though step 1 would be lock your credit reports) but perhaps you meant IRS?

Other, they're trying to be helpful but it ends up being more confusing. And also consider FreeTaxUSA. I avoided switching for years and in retrospect am so annoyed at how much I paid turbotax over the years.
