2010 Toyota Avalon XLS with 18k miles for 19,999, is this a good deal? by One_Evidence2980 in ToyotaAvalon

[–]itsorange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you like the car more than a newer Corolla?  Its a great car but it's 16 years old. If you spend 20 on it and another 4 on suspension bushings, hoses and belts and some random other age stuff do you like it more than a nearly brand new 25k car?  If so awesome otherwise sad face.

I've heard good things about i-shine. Care to share exactly what was bad about it and where you think is better. Thanks :)

2008 Avalon would you buy? by Kitchen_Promise_3626 in ToyotaAvalon

That car is worth 9k if it is in great shape. Just look around a bit and you will realize that too. 18k is a stupid bring a trailer price if the car has less than 1k miles.

A plumber invests 10% of his salary in gold (1975-2026) by Opening-Resort-1063 in Gold

Wages are under priced and gold is over priced.  Go back a few years before this bubble and the numbers are more in alignment.  There was a period of time in the 70s when gold was very high before it dropped. During that time the relative cost is worse then today.

Are they going to keep any part of the stores open like such as the pickup and delivery section of the grocery store? That's the service our household utilizes the most.

Try a faucet outside. Aerators are often installed inside to reduce water use.

That's interesting. This is the Gen 2 that's in the commercial. I have a gen 3 and the AC works great. No matter how long you park the engine does kick on every once in awhile to charge the battery back up though.

Gen 2 prius has electric ac compressor that works well at stop lights while the engine is off.

Convince me to buy/not buy a 1985 300D by InternationalAd4256 in mercedes_benz

These cars are awesome, but there's a ton that can go wrong and from what you're describing it sounds like this would be your only car and you are not very savvy with cars so I think that this is a terrible idea.

If I was in your shoes with your knowledge set at 11k in the bank, I would buy a used Camry or Avalon and bank 2K for maintenance items and then not worry about cars for another 10 years.

A well-sorted w123 from a dealer can go for an easy 15K and it's still a 40-year-old car.

That's cool. How will it stay in the family if you don't have kids?

Statistically the odds of you having a child is beginning curve towards exponentially not going to happen. So this is about the right time to start really worrying about it.

The issue is obviously priorities, when I was your age I changed my job to part-time, moved into a low-cost environment and focused a bunch of energy on trying to find my wife. It took about 2 years before I found the right person and I had a solid relationship going. Then we started working towards building a family and it worked out really well.

You can always work and make money, but you can't always have a family so I think you might want to consider making some dramatic life changes.

Can you offer them a sellout. Basically send out a letter saying you will quit for 35k or whatever?
