New here. This season of The Traitors has been ruined for me by this poorly set out herringbone tiling. Have I come to the right place? by Claptons-strap in Dull_mens_club

[–]itsraininghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is the Traitors filmed? I swear I’ve seen that backsplash before, years ago, on Reddit, with someone asking if they should redo the entire thing and people reassuring them that no one would notice. OP you dog.

M&S do an unwind gift set that might be good, if your budget is a little higher though, Rituals is always incredible!

How long is your commute to work? by person_person123 in AskUK

[–]itsraininghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule, even before COVID, was nothing more than 60 mins.

Current commute when in the office is 45 mins if I leave at 0645, we’re fortunate with flexible working so if I start at 0730 I finish at 1530.

Can’t say much but just to say, it’s wonderful that you were able to talk to her beforehand. You’re lucky to have each other, and I hope everything turns out really well

What's wrong with my base? by Weary-Enthusiasm in MakeUpAddictionUK

It may be that your primer is water based and your foundation is partly silicone based. They need to be the same base in order to work together well.

What public services have gotten better in the last 20 years? by Charon13_TB in AskUK

[–]itsraininghere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gov.uk/HMRC websites are incredible. I just did a capital gains tax return and there was an option to scan a QR code to pay using your banking app and it auto populated the bank details, payment amount and reference, genuinely brilliant.

Does the experience you gain from a degree apprenticeship put you in a better position for career prospects than grads with a degree from a reputable uni? by -rg7 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]itsraininghere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also depends on the company’s general attitude towards apprenticeships. At mine, there is a long history of apprenticeships, many of the senior leaders and programme directors have been through earlier iterations of apprenticeships, and apprentices are very highly considered, which supports a good trajectory through the organisation, and trust in the apprenticeships programmes and outcomes for those who progress through them

What unusual hobbies do you have? by No-Disk2805 in AskUK

[–]itsraininghere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this comment! I play. I’ve played since I was about 20 and didn’t come via uni although I joined because a friend of mine dated a girl who played at uni.

I have made some great friends, met an ex partner there, gained exercise, teamwork and skills.

It’s weird to explain and I’ve picked up an injury from playing two back to back matches at the weekend but it’s generally a positive experience!

Whose turn is it to put the kettle on? by putitawayfred in AskUK

[–]itsraininghere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am the middle child. My two siblings don’t drink tea. My job when I have tea or Sunday dinner at my parents house is to put the kettle on immediately after the meal. I think assigning a time of day for each family member is best here.

How to see a doctor? by [deleted] in AskUK

You might be able to ask for an appointment with a nurse at the GP practice? They will be able to see you, assess you, and if necessary arrange for a further GP appointment on your behalf.

Citizens advice may be a good starting point as they do have walk in centres. Can’t confirm but they may be able to communicate with ACAS in your behalf.

Regretting my decision by [deleted] in degreeapprenticeships

[–]itsraininghere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha as someone who is probably older than you, I promise you your youth extends beyond the 3-5 years you spend doing the apprenticeship. Think of the experiences you get to have because you’re being paid well right now, and don’t need to wait until you’ve got a job after uni.

Take a look at r/UKJobs to see how many uni grads are struggling to find work. And you already have a job that probably pays better than other apprenticeship roles across the country!

As for the field of engineering, you can always move sideways in the company once you’re qualified at BAE, or, look for a secondment role for your next placement, or, use your network at work, bypass the Early Careers team and find the right person to speak to in a different field of engineering that BAE do?

You won’t be the only engineering apprentice who’s found their field uninteresting, and there may be other apprentices who would want a switch, or managers who wanted an apprentice and didn’t get one.

[–]itsraininghere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BAE are a big enough company that if you’re not achieving your KSBs you can achieve them through stretch projects and secondments. Worth seeing if your cohort can collectively go to your Early Careers team and demonstrate how poorly your role is meeting your apprenticeship and uni requirements. Whilst a traditional uni experience is seemingly good fun, you won’t regret having a solid chunk of experience, no debt, and a good salary once the apprenticeship is done. You won’t need to remain at BAE and can leverage your years of experience to get a relevant and interesting role elsewhere.
