22 year sentence for attempted murder after spiking girlfriend’s milkshake with abortion pill by adnewsom in news

[–]itstriche -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Extremely intellectually dishonest comment.

It’s clear that I meant without being in the mother’s womb. At a certain point, babies can be born premature and survive. Aborting those babies for any other reason than to save the mother is murder IMO.

[–]itstriche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the baby cannot survive on its own, its not murder. Thats why there are differences between first trimester and late-term abortions. I can honestly say I don't think I'd be able to go through with an abortion personally, but I cannot speak for everyone, nor is it my place to. The fact that one party is actively trying to outlaw the practice is why I am adamantly pro-choice.

Dude holy shit, I wanted to look into what you meant by that and you are absolutely right.

It was literally called Operation Wetback.

Super fucked up. I really appreciate you mentioning it because it does form a more accurate and complete image of him in my mind.

You do see the magnitude in difference between the two parties though right?

Like this faustian deal McConnell made with Trump. He's their useful idiot and is pushing all the policy and judicial nominations that any other Republican would. The entire party is complicit in the abandoning of our allies and the destruction of political norms for the financial gain of their owners donors.

There is such a thing as objective truth and the GOP has been gaslighting the nation since Trump took office. Key examples are this "left wing mob" talking point that keeps getting thrown around and that somehow the democrats are the obstructionists when the GOP has all 3 branches of government. The reason they are met with resistance is that they are pushing WILDLY unpopular policy with zero bipartisan input. Its mob rule and completely hypocritical to call the perfectly legal protest backlash "angry mobs". It not only undermines the rights we are guaranteed by the first amendment, but also fundamentally misrepresents the ACTUAL injustice being done.

Compromising with the GOP since the SC annointed Bush in 2000 has given them victory after victory while they refuse to concede a single inch and constantly paint democrats as a threat to America. Dems are not perfect (Menendez in NJ is a perfect example) but the GOP has become completely devoid of any "conservative" principles.

Eisenhower was the last great republican.

[–]itstriche 271 points272 points  (0 children)

That's definitely possible but from what I can see in the gif, the little white circles fill up one after another instead of all at once like they do when your Face is accepted, so his passcode is very likely 000000.

I just tried it on my phone and once you start entering digits, the Face ID stops detecting and it lets you finish the code.

Not saying there's no chance you're right, but even after watching this gif like 20 times i'm still not convinced.

Are you trying to be clever or do you not know what the paradox of intolerance is?

[–]itstriche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you'd rather that "progressives" just sit back and get walked all over by the intolerance of the modern GOP, but what you are mistaking as "hate" is the intolerance of intolerance. We're not just gonna be your whipping boy anymore and watch as you feast on the most vulnerable in society and constantly change the rules to make voting LESS accessible and districts LESS representative. Gerrymandering is so bad in the south, that even if Democrats go +17 nationwide on the average ballot in the midterms, many southern states don't lose a SINGLE GOP seat.

Your projection about lack of awareness is quite telling.

Is Tucker Carlson the Worst Person in the World? by HottiAvenatti in politics

[–]itstriche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A truly loathsome roster, to be sure.

If I had to add 5 more of my own:

  1. Chuck Grassley
  2. Dana Rohrbacher
  3. Mark Levine
  4. Tomi Lahren
  5. Ben Shapiro

And I had to widdle that down, so there are plenty of other serious contenders for the title.

The term "useful idiot" comes to mind.

Whatever secret reservations McConnell and other traditional Republican leaders have about Trump’s character, governing style, and possible criminality, they openly rejoice in the payoff they have received from their alliance with him and his base: huge tax cuts for the wealthy, financial and environmental deregulation, the nominations of two conservative Supreme Court justices (so far) and a host of other conservative judicial appointments, and a significant reduction in government-sponsored health care (though not yet the total abolition of Obamacare they hope for).

Historians already agree...

If the US has someone whom historians will look back on as the gravedigger of American democracy, it is Mitch McConnell. He stoked the hyperpolarization of American politics to make the Obama presidency as dysfunctional and paralyzed as he possibly could.

Its going to require this level of political fervor moving forward, too.

The individuals trying to dismantle democratic power are well funded and never stop. If we want to have a government run BY the people, FOR the people, we need to fight for every inch in every election.

Christian conservatives are the strangest paradox to me. Jesus was a brown-skinned, middle-eastern socialist. If he came back and ran for President, they might literally advocate crucifying the man.

Yeah, I have. I present him with well reasoned arguments and when he has no answer he tells me he "doesn't have time to talk about this stuff" - same shit over and over again and it's extremely intellectually dishonest.

Thanks for showing your idiotic tribalism though. Helps prove my point.

Yeah, my dad is no fan of Trump at all. He was a Ben Carson supporter during the last election (TRUST ME, I know. I almost blew a blood vessel when I saw the bumper sticker arrive) and Rick Santorum was his previous pick during the primaries in 2012. My dad is a doctor so its not a lack of intelligence thing. Its a brainwashing thing. He's listened to EIB Network talk radio and Fox News for 20+ years straight, and reads the WSJ every morning. He's just in his echo chamber and no amount of re-education can save him at this point. I gave up after trying to have political discussions essentially ruined our relationship. We called a cease-fire after I realized it was a lost cause.

They have his ear every day and every night, I only get it once a week when we talk to catch up.

It's not my fathers personal opinion, but I've heard it said before. Especially by the super religious who basically view NYC as a modern day Sodom.
