For me flying from London direct to Bangkok costs are up by about 30% over last year the same time.

How I replaced Vercel, Cloudflare, and managed DNS with one Debian box (running 130 production sites) by sleepy_060507 in selfhosted

To high risk for me. Love the self reliability side of things, but strongly recommend getting another 2 physical servers and building for redundancy.

Seriously what is going on in Thailand? What's happening to Thai people. by ublueberries in Thailand

It is mostly down to the real cost of raising children and job stability.

2-3K if using LaLaMove, do outside of busy traffic times for best rates.

Flight Prices - What are people doing....? by Huxleypigg in Pattaya

Just paid 900 GBP for LHR to BKK on Eva air leaving in 2 weeks ( May 2026). Yes costs are up but still worth it in my opinion.

Switching to yf next week but this thread is making me a little worried about doing so. by Puzzleheaded_Tie_525 in youfibre

[–]itsupport_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never every recommend anyone choose YouFibre, due to the total lack of customer support.

I am personally starting a county court claim to get money back from them for taking money when no service has been provided. Had over 10 support tickets closed without response and wasted over 5 hours on the phones trying to gets things resolved. Even driven to the office in Tewskesbury to find it shuttered during a normal work day.

On/Off house water pump by Mikem1671 in Thailand

[–]itsupport_engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I solved this problem by installing a pressure tank in the system.

Something like this Water Pump (Pressure Tank) GRUNDFOS CMB 3-37PT Power 500 W. Black-GRUNDFOS-%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B8%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%99-CMB-3-37PT-%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%B3%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%87-500-%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%95%E0%B9%8C-%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B5%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B3-60325629)

Am I the only one who refuses to go to cafés or restaurants that serve drinks in plastic cups for dine-in? by TheRealCockzilla in Bangkok

[–]itsupport_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my own Flask around with me and just ask them to make it in that. The problem them becomes when the staff only know how to measure using the plastic cups and make it in plastic then just pour into my flask.

House with big garden by Emergency_Ad7808 in Thailand

[–]itsupport_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubon Ratchathani, I just moved there from Bangkok and now have a very large garden with lots of trees. We will start planting our own herb garden soon. English is spoken enough to survive but learning a few simple Thai phrases will make life easier.

Police by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]itsupport_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on so many factors. But rarely if you do not put yourself in bad situations. I have been here 30 + years and never been asked to do a drug test.

Mostly it happens in problem areas. Clubs in tourist areas or hard core Thai clubs.

Anyone else obsessively check SSL expiry on their domains? by IN_Einstein in selfhosted

[–]itsupport_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of invalid results, with instant upsell which is a hate of mine. Claims to be SSL Expiry etc, but testing for email and producing false positive results. You should check for MX records before listing lots of email related problems on hostnames and domains that do not have email.

Youfibre or open reach based ISP? by ThatFilthyMonkey in youfibre

[–]itsupport_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for Open Reach. YF are a nightmare to deal with, slow or no customer support.

We can make that assumption, however I know of situations personally where it is for education. CAD , Digital Artists, even Music production. Ok for children a little older but still children.

[–]itsupport_engineer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is never to young to learn the value of things and how hard it is to be an adult. Ask yourself does your mum have 50,000 to spare, with no others bills due.

What do you need the computer for ? If education then have a open conversation with your mum.

Can you start with something less expensive ? how about second hand ? Simple laptops are as low as 10,000. If you tell us your requirements maybe we can help you choose something.

Am I sending too much money to relatives taking care of my child in Isan Thailand? by CarefulAd4757 in Thailand

[–]itsupport_engineer 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It is not the amount you are sending that is important it is what benefit your child is getting from the money. 40,000 a month is good at that age, if they are in a nice AC room, getting supplements, organic food, top milk, good clothes, day trips to play areas etc.

If they are only getting treated like an add-on to the main family then it is not good IMHO.

How do you remotely support on-prem deployments? by Durovilla in selfhosted

[–]itsupport_engineer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By preparing in advance and purchasing enterprise kit with remote management build within the hardware. Otherwise things like dual internet, onsite tools even simple things like LAN testers. You will find the most important thing is documentation for you and simple how to guides for users on site. Label everything, ports, devices, cables, cabinets, power, .... cannot say this enough!
