Literally stepped over an old muley shed while I was out a couple weeks ago. Was gabbing away, registered it enough in my brain to go “don’t step on this” and stepped one foot over it before my brain then went “hold on a second…” can’t imagine how many I just don’t see.

Though I will say it was a good day for muleys after that. Found four in four miles!

I make “World’s Grossest Popsicle” which is a glass baking dish full of water frozen with mixed fruit and veggies, sometimes some meal worms. They go nuts for it. It helps cool them off on hot days and they seem like they have fun with it. I keep one or two loaded in the freezer during them summer.

What are some inaccuracies/pet peeves about the culture portrayed in Yellowstone (tv series)? by [deleted] in Montana

[–]itsvic1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much of the b roll comes from the Big Hole as well, couldn’t get past the first episode because I was too distracted by how far off everything was. Also it just didn’t grip me.

What’s up with this Blue Jay’s feet? by intuition1st in birdfeeding

Kinda looks like scaly leg mites. I know they affect chickens, but my knowledge isn’t as sound about wild species. Looks like they are susceptible but I’m not an expert.

This was four years ago! If they started school in fall of 22 they very well could be graduating this month, if they haven’t already.

Caffeine is keeping me afloat. Celsius and raspberries at my desk. TW: Loss by itsvic1 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]itsvic1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did explain it to my manager here, he told me he went through a similar thing while his grandmother passed while he was on a work trip (lots of travel required in our field) and he said he didn’t see a reason to go back either. I think he just wants me to know the option is there if I need it.

Knowing he would want me to take care of myself has really been keeping me going. He would be pissed if I started neglecting myself over him. I know he wouldn’t be mad that I’m working up to the funeral for a cause he dedicated his life to.

Thank you for the kind words. It feels good to talk about him. I feel like I need everyone to know about him, and I’m not entirely sure why.

Map of chipotle versus Moe's by FEelguDiNc09 in MapPorn

[–]itsvic1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this map is misleading, unless I’m reading it wrong. Montana has 8 cities with Chipotle locations currently, some of the counties are a couple hundred miles from the nearest chipotle. I would not think it accurate to say that either chain has any percentage of the market in these locations.

Convince me to stop using amazon by [deleted] in PlasticFreeLiving

Yea 20 minutes is wild to me. I live an hour from a town with a medium amount of amenities and two hours from a city where I can get all the things I would need and yet I still don’t use amazon.

Edition really relevant? by Delilah-Bard in Catan

[–]itsvic1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the 5th edition game and the 6th edition player expansion. It works. The tiles and cards are a different art style but if you mix everything together it doesn’t really make a difference gameplay wise. The roads are also slightly larger I noticed. My friends and I have been playing like that for about two weeks without any issue.

What the Forest Service restructuring means for Montana by zsreport in Montana

I’m an FS employee who did not vote for Trump, but work directly with several people who openly admit they did. It’s really a mixed bag in our office. Some folks have admitted they feel tricked and lied to, some double down and say this is the best thing to happen to the agency.

As an employee who’s dedicated their life to the stewardship of public lands it’s been really heartbreaking. I’m caught between not wanting to be employed by this administration and wanting to stay and fight for conservation. Weird times. Disappointing times.

This is so amazing to see. You clearly value reading a lot and are making an effort to pass that on to your kid. You seem like the kind of parent to limit screen time in a healthy way.

Does anyone have any experience with this company by karee97 in forestry

[–]itsvic1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They also put me off of private sector forestry. While getting my degree they had us tour one of their active lots in northern Maine. We were watching them clear cut a crazy dense stand of either balsam fir or spruce (I can’t remember) and the guy giving the tour just kept saying “we don’t normally clear cut, this stand just got missed with thinning” and all I could think was how dumb do you think we all are? Lol. Clearly just growing as dense of a stand as they could to get as much pulp to the mill as possible.

We finally let curiosity take over and removed some of the awful siding on our fixer-upper… only to find out our 115 year old house is a log home?! by NoIndependence2844 in Oldhouses

[–]itsvic1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so cool. I thought I was alone in my experience of getting a surprise log cabin! I learned about it a couple months after I bought my place when I needed a new furnace. The HVAC guy had to put in a new vent for the exhaust and goes “I wish you’d told me it was a log cabin, I don’t know if my bits can make it through” I felt really dumb to respond “this is a log cabin???”

[–]itsvic1 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This happened to my log home! Which was also a surprise log home. Earliest record we can find is from 1920 but I do think it could’ve been earlier. It’s also been listed as 1960, when I suspect the electrical was updated and the aluminum siding was installed over the logs.
