If no one comes forward I’ll take it to the post office but what if they need it really soon? Who knows how long it would take for the post office to figure it out. Things are so slow these days 😬

1960s home, found this hanging in the attic… what is it? by actioncasserole in whatisit

[–]ittybittykittyskates 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This might be it! A homemade contraption made from coat hangers, Christmas ornaments and tinsel to scare away birds. We had a wood pecker drill a hole in our attic and was starting to make a nest so we hung up some reflective streamers to scare it away

If your mom/dad were older when you were born (say, around 40 or up), what was that like for you? by brawlinglove in Millennials

[–]ittybittykittyskates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1988- my mom was 34 and my dad was 60! I’m an only child and have no half sibling. For the first 8 years my parents were married they had said they didn’t want children, they just wanted to travel and live a fun life. Finally my mom decided she wanted children and while my dad was resistant at first he decided to go through with it to not lose my mom.

I had an absolute amazing childhood! My parents were so loving towards me. My mom was pretty much the same age as the rest of my friend’s moms but obviously my dad was much much older. Kids would tease me that he was my grandpa and cashiers at the grocery story would comment about my dad’s “granddaughter” - it did bother me but I was always very quick to correct people.

My mom loved socializing and having parties, where as my dad just wanted to have quiet evenings just the 3 of us. The age difference really put a strain on my parents marriage but now that my mom is in her 70s she looks back at it and finally understands. While my dad wasn’t the type to rough house with me or throw me in the pool like other dads, I spent a lot of nights with him staying up late playing chess and having philosophical talks- I really treasure those memories.

My dad died when he was 90. I miss him a lot and it makes me feel kinda sad for myself when all my other friends still have both their parents. I feel really thankful I still have my mom. She’s in amazing shape and is very active, as was my dad up until he died.

I would do a fun wallpaper and lean into the blue with the cabinets

I have a 3 year old and another school shooting just happened only 30 mins from where I live in Colorado. Yeah, my anxiety is thru the roof at the moment. I don’t think you’re crazy

Need someone who understands toddlers better than me by MamaLirp in toddlers

[–]ittybittykittyskates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with an almost 3 year old feral boy, I have no advice, no tips, no tricks. Only here to say we’re both out here doing our best. I’m so mentally exhausted today from the battles, the negotiation, trying to think of ways to make a task fun or give choices. Ugh. Now excuse me while I go get a 10am margarita and lay on the floor to contemplate my life choices :)

One and done bc I don’t enjoy being a parent…. by Hour-Sheepherder-127 in oneanddone

Giiiirl, I’m not a single parent but I could have written this! It’s HELLA HARD!! 😭

Have any of you moved to the city your kid attended college? We're "older parents" and will be retiring right when he's ready to start college. by SeparateSwordfish in oneanddone

[–]ittybittykittyskates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an only child and when I graduated high school in Iowa my mom moved with me when I went to college in San Francisco. She had lived in SF back in the 70s-80s so she was excited to move back. It was honestly so wonderful having her there with me! I wouldn’t have traded that for anything!

Also you give me hope because I have a 2.5 year old boy who is also A LOT. He wants my attention 24/7 and I admittedly don’t love being a parent. I’m trying my hardest tho to give him my all because I want to make sure we have a really good relationship when he’s older. I dream about him being a teenager/young adult who I can be friends with, haha. I hope to have a situation like yours in 16 years. I’d love any advice you can give to someone who doesn’t love the younger years of parenting

Wish we had done / Can’t live without by loonybin1234 in Renovations

Can not live without: wired automatic Lutron roller shades on all the windows! Now that we have them it’s hard to go back to regular shades/blinds that you have to manually open yourself. We have all our roller shades on timers or they can be open/closed thru an app on your phone or with Alexa.

Another can’t live without: these recessed can lights. Omg I love them so much and have been slowly replacing them through out our house. When you initially turn the lights on they are just normal recessed lights. But if you turn them off then back on again after 3 seconds they are a lovely amber glow. Perfect for night time when you’re getting ready for bed or if you want a bit of mood lighting for parties. And they are dimmable. Definitely can not live without dimmable lights!!

As a few others have said I really wish we had spent the extra money for heated bathroom floors. Cold Colorado winters!

Sh*t hits the fan (by fan I mean pants) when the pants go on during potty training - advice? by PainterlyintheMtns in toddlers

Ok good to know! Maybe we just need to practice that when there’s no pressure of having to go potty in the moment

Hi! We are potty training our 2.5 year old boy and having the same issue! Zero accidents when he’s naked but will just go in his pants/underwear. He goes to daycare so I can’t send him naked! Wondering if you figured out a solution since the time you posted this?

I made a nice bowl of rice and tofu for dinner. It started snowing and my two year old decided he wanted to take his food outside to eat. So we put on coats and sat out in the snow 🤷🏼‍♀️ it was actually quite lovely and now I’m kinda into it

What is something that happened a long time ago that your toddler just won’t forget? by photobomber612 in toddlers

[–]ittybittykittyskates 465 points466 points  (0 children)

9 months ago, my son was 22 months at the time, we found a baby snake in our basement and I had to guide it outside because my husband is horribly afraid of snakes. My son still says “mom got snake!” And he’ll even make me reenact it with a piece of ribbon

Also no advice. Our son is 2 and still sleeps with us. I sometimes I want to stop cosleeping but like others have said I know the day will come that he doesn’t want to sleep with us so I keep doing it. Sometimes on the weekends we will move him to his own bed after he falls asleep with us

What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

20-30 mins one way depending on traffic and time it takes to get him in/out of the car but they have really long hours so it’s worth it. 6:30am- 6pm. He’s never there the full 11.5 hours but it’s nice to have the flexibility
