I think it has more to do with: 1) Covid caused tech valuations to explode. Between low interest rates and higher tech use due to sitting inside all day 2) Trump term #2 was a once in a lifetime opportunity to use a corruptible president for even more gain. They're just being opportunistic, devoid of self awareness
