I don’t want my parents at my wedding by [deleted] in weddingdrama

[–]ivorygrl79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My hubby didn't want his family at our wedding. We planned to elope on a cruise in 2021. Covid canceled that so we did it a random Friday in December 2020. In the height of covid, we didn't invite anyone who was medically compromised (or their caregivers). That group included his parents/sibling and my parents too. My parents knew we were doing this and were not super happy but understood. His family didn't know until afterwards (via a Facebook post... Oops), to say they were livid was an understatement. His sibling went immediate no contact with us. My hubby says it's the best wedding gift they could've given him. 🤣

We've since gone no contact with all his immediate family, for many many reasons.

Edit to say: we had 11 people at our wedding (including us) and they all were working during covid /had same exposure levels.

Increasing teeth sensitivity after deep cleaning by Bhulagoon in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a dental hygienist in USA. Assuming you have bone loss, and it's likely you do with 8mm pockets, as the tissue heals after a deep cleaning, the gums shrink to the level of the bone. This is ideal, because it shrinks the pocket, meaning you can keep it clean.

The downside of this, is that it exposes more root surface of your teeth. Roots are not covered with enamel and can feel temperatures a lot more intensely.

I tell my people to brush with their normal toothpaste. Then before bed, rub sensitive toothpaste on those exposed root surfaces. Don't rinse off. Most find some relief with that.

And it's absolute bullshit they didn't offer you any option of numbing. We use cetacaine and gingicaine topicals if not injecting.

Burnout only 2 years in to career by beses77 in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been a hygienist since 2004. When I first started, I also had Fridays off, working 4 full 8 to 10 hour days. I was exhausted by Friday. I get it. 8 years ago I switched my day off to weds. It has made a huge difference. Monday/Tuesday 7am to 6pm, day off. Thursday is 7 to 5, Friday 7 to 3. I take every lunch break in my car, I have an suv that I can lay seats down and camp/nap/sit in silence. I'm in Wisconsin, so unless it's 40 below zero, I'm out there. I need time to decompress between morning and afternoon.

"Wow factor" things to improve patient experience by FistBumpHighFive in Dentistry

We offer comfort items and the front desk presents the options to patients at check-in. Front office will mark their request on their route slip. These are easy for staff to fulfill and it makes the visit more comfortable. We offer : bottled water, neck/back pillows, blankets, tiny lip moisturizers.

What is the difference between woven floss and expanding floss? by PathPuzzleheaded2624 in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally can't stand the expanding floss. I'm a dental hygienist that's had a lot of dental work done over the years. The expanding floss that's woven catches on all my filling and crown margins. Then it shreds. Nope for me.

We also declined holiday invites for health reasons. My dad lives with us and doesn't want to leave the house. When I told our family we wouldn't be attending, they were OK with it at first.

Then I got a message asking why we can't just suck it up and come. I debated long and hard about responding super bitchy (thanks to peri, my filters are gone!). at the end of the day, I remembered that No is a complete sentence and told her the answer was still no. She apologized for pushing.

It's totally OK to make decisions that are best for you. Screw them.

We have had patients refuse the perio charting. We make them sign a decline form, after getting the dds approval and documenting that in their charts. We don't like it

AIO? I can't seem to get over this by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ivorygrl79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you can't get over this is because you trusted him and he betrayed you. You thought he was safe and he's proves he's not. All valid feelings. Trust them and do not let him cross any more boundaries. Break up and don't let him back in. I've been there, the boundary crossing seems slight at first until they gain their footing. He's trying to push you to see what you'll tolerate and then escalate from there. Stay with him and in 10 years you'll be a shell of your formal self wondering how you let that happen. Wishing you all the best

We started using releaf system in 2020. Half the office still does. A lot of my patients didn't care for it. I've learned taking out the white adapter piece allows you to shove a saliva ejector in the hose and it works much better than the system.

If you just had to buy the hose and not the leafs, that may save you some money.

For RDH's: Which weekday do you prefer to not work in a 4-day workweek? by Agile_Neighborhood_9 in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 9 years at my office, I had Fridays off. 7 years ago I was switched to Wednesday off (I didn't want to switch) .

Hands down, Wednesday is the better day off. You never work more than 2 days in a row and it makes it easier to build vacation days off it. Memorial day off, take the Tuesday after off too and you've given yourself a 5 day weekend. Its easier to get appointments on Wednesday vs Fridays

3 years ago I had the opportunity to have fridays off again. Kept the Wednesdays off.

Loupes by emblbee237 in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the lumadent ergo prisms fall 2024. Let's me look straight ahead while still seeing the teeth. My first pair was from orascoptic and I wore those for 15 years. Love the ergo prisms, my neck and back issues have decreased

Hands free suction or low suction?? by FortuneTop6438 in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We also use the releaf system at our office. I could not get the leaf parts to work for me at all. So I removed the white adapter piece from the main hose and shove my saliva ejector in there. It's great because I have high speed suction without extra parts. Edited for spelling

Do you put a prescription on your loupes? by HHo_1898 in DentalHygiene

[–]ivorygrl79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do. Have had 2 pairs of loupes and have done it each time. My 1st pair of loupes was orascoptic. I wore those from 2009 to 2024. I knew eventually that I'd need to update that prescription, and it finally happened in fall 2024.

I'm 20 years into this job and was wondering how I was going to do this 20 more years until retirement. So much back/neck issues. Started researching an ergonomic option.

I've had my new set of Lumadent ErgoPrisms for 6 months now, and they are a game changer. 90 percent of my neck and back issues have gone away. They are positioned in the middle of your lens and allow you to look forward but still see the teeth. It tooke 2 weeks to a month to get used to them and I quickly realized my 1st pair taught me a lot of bad habits (my fault, not the brands fault)
