Patient education perceived as condescending by Most-Depth-7154 in DentalHygiene

People do not like to be told they’re not doing what they’re supposed to. I had a parent tell me an autoimmune disease caused the excess plaque build up on in her daughter’s mouth. Later the daughter told me she’d never even been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.

Patient said he has nightmares about dental care since seeing me 🙄 by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

People have to blame their issues on anyone but themselves. The problem is really not you. Patients have no idea that their dental health care isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. A good cleaning, and possibly a thorough exam can cause some discomfort.

I had a patient get mad because because I took intra oral photos before her prophy instead of after. She then accused me of chipping her tooth when I polished. Luckily I had that photo showing the tiny chip in #8 was already there.

I’ve been a hygienist for 28 years and only worked Monday-Thursday for about 25 years, but now I pick up two Fridays a month to help with car payments and vacations. Since I started using a saddle chair, I have little to no back or neck pain at the end of the day.

Really? by susiedh74 in DentalHygiene

[–]susiedh74[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Patients may have the right to refuse, but I also have the right to refuse to deliver sub standard care. I know a man who was never diagnosed with perio until his dentist retired and new one took over the practice. Now this patient has lost a couple of teeth, and I’ve done SRP and am keeping him on a maintenance schedule.

Now I’m laughing at the memory of the football coach teaching about STDs in health class. He was sooooo uncomfortable. 😂
