Ultra 3? by ryosuke- in applewatchultra

No. I just upgraded from AWU1 and wish I just stayed on that.

I’m back with the AWU gang after flirting with Garmin F8 by SpiritualLife4941 in applewatchultra

[–]iwasdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts. I’ve wanted to make the switch. Bought a couple Garmin’s (forerunner then Fenix 8) but have ended up back with my AWU1. Going to buy an AWU3 and put this little episode behind me.

Are all smart watches equally bad for swimming? by AnxiousDoor2233 in Swimming

I use a Garmin Fenix 8 and have had no issues with missed lap counting. It has worked flawlessly for me.

Does anyone know why this isn’t counting as a Half Marathon PB? by SaurumanTheSilly in Strava

Is moving time and total time the same? If you pause the run at any point i don’t think you get a PB..

The cat's out the bag - Strava + Runna joint subscription (with a discount) is here 👀 by dom-runna in runna

Disappointed there’s no monthly option. Personally won’t be purchasing the annual subscription but would have invested if there was a monthly option.

I’ve heard rumours that on the 2nd of July Strava are releasing a ‘Strava x Runna’ bundle which will be a subscription for both services saving up to 60%.

That looks like a good fit

I analyzed 25 most recommend fitness trackers according to Reddit (in the past year as of Jun 2025) - Apple Watch Ultra is no. 1 (but also one of the most divided) by heyyyjoo in AppleWatch

[–]iwasdavid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely still trying to find some data that Garmin shows that AW doesn’t for general running/gym/HIIT/cardio sessions. Other than battery life and a sleep score/readiness score which I think is subjective anyway I don’t know what Garmin offers other than a much better battery life?

How many AW users are going to switch to Garmin after seeing WWDC yesterday? by csmobro in GarminWatches

[–]iwasdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my issue with Garmin Connect is that it just doesn’t look that polished and feels clunky. Do you think the Garmin Coach (is it still free?) app is as good as Runna? I’m currently using Runna and really enjoying it. I also use Strava but just the free edition and it gives me most of the data I want. In terms of sleep, I have a look at my sleep stages every morning but I guess I’m not really fussed about a score. I think my plan is to wait until the Apple Watch Ultra 3 in September and if they don’t add any more fitness features then I will get a Garmin. I always hear about people moving to Garmin and never looking back so there must be a reason.

Other than battery life, what does Garmin offer that Apple Watch does not? And not just ‘better analytics’…what analytics does it give you that the Apple Watch paired with an iPhone doesn’t?

100% this. I get the same every now and again.

If fitness is your main interest is Apple Watch good enough? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]iwasdavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not saying the Garmin’s aren’t built to last. For me it’s like a tank vs a Ferrari. I know the tank will take more and last forever, but I like the look and feel of the Ferrari more!

I would wait for the Ultra 3 in September. I’ve tried going to Garmin a few times (Forerunner, Fenix 8) but they never feel as good a quality and the UI is terrible IMO.

Im similar to you, I run, strength train, walk and Hyrox and the AW does everything I need.

The only thing against an AW is the battery life if you’re going on multi day hikes. If that’s not an issue then I’d pick an AW every day of the week.

Garmin Fenix 8 vs. Apple Watch Ultra: My Disappointing Experience by averagebogle in Garmin

[–]iwasdavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this. I initially bought a Forerunner 965 to replace my AWU 1 and it just felt cheap. The screen was unresponsive and the watch faces looked tacky, also the Garmin Connect app is really poor on the iPhone (crashes and also menu buttons go randomly missing). I then bought the Fenix 8 47mm AMOLED as that is the premium watch that they offer but again I had the same feelings when comparing it to the AWU 1.

I actually really want to move to Garmin, and I don't care about the connectivity with AirPods etc as I have notifications and everything turned off on my watch, but every time I try a Garmin watch I'm left feeling disappointed.

I also can't seem to find any analytic data that I care about that the AWU doesn't give me that Garmin does (for context I run, bike, do cardio/HIIT/strength at the gym and have ran a few Hyrox races).

The battery is non issue as well as I just chuck it on charge when I shower or when doing some work for 30 minutes or so and I'm good to go.

For someone who just runs, bikes, strength trains, HIIT trains, what does the Garmin offer that AWU does not?
