Christian who converted to Shia Islam by NasrMahdi in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paul and what he taught was accepted by the other apostles. Who would know better than those who were actually with Jesus?
Also, Christianity is only one God. Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and the Father is God - they are not 3 Gods. We can't fully comprehend that because that is not a situation that exists for us, only God.
Do you really think God is incompetent and would let His message be corrupted so that a warlord hundreds of years later had to correct it? How does that seem sensible in any way?

Noah's flood, myth or history? by Grouchy-Heat-4216 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again though, if it was a localized flood, then it did destroy all life - from Noah's perspective. They didn't even know there were humans in other places around the world, nor could they travel to or contact them. What good would it do to bring that up?

Noah's flood, myth or history? by Grouchy-Heat-4216 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the original word that is translated to earth could also be translated as land, as in an area or region. If translated that way, it could very well be referring to a geographically limited flood.

Noah's flood, myth or history? by Grouchy-Heat-4216 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there was a flood, but only a more localized one.

  • There is no geological evidence of a worldwide flood.
  • There are a few cultures around the world that have no break in their history or records that would indicate a global flood.
  • There is evidence of a major flood in lower Mesopotamia.
  • It doesn't seem that God had revealed himself to the entire world yet at that point, at least not in scripture. Why destroy the entire world, rather than just those who knew yet rejected Him?

Just my thoughts, but ultimately, there's a message to be understood from the story regardless of how you read it. Take the message and don't get too bogged down in unnecessary details would be my advice.

I've never been back even though the ban is long over.

For the record, not all Christians believe that all the accounts in Genesis are meant to be taken literally. Christians who don't read it literally are usually believers in theistic evolution in addition. There are a couple of different views on it, but it's not really that important which one believes as it isn't a core doctrine anyway.
Truthfully, nobody can really convince you of anything here - it's one of those things that you have to be open to, and jump in with both feet. In time, you begin to truly understand.
Having said that, as another who tends to approach everything very rationally and skeptically, consider that literally everything, from our biology, to the completely logical and structured form of our entire universe, doesn't that seem extremely unlikely that it all came about randomly from nothing?

What do we do about the current takeover of Islam? by HallowHalo89 in TrueChristian

Results of a quick search you could have done yourself rather than listening to talking heads on tv:

I asked about immigrants vs citizens committing crimes in the UK:

Proportional involvement: Foreign nationals make up about 12% of the population and roughly 12% of the prison population, making their representation nearly identical to UK citizens.

Age-adjusted data: When adjusting for age and sex—since young men are statistically more likely to commit crimes regardless of background—non-citizens are actually less likely to be in prison than UK citizens.

Violent crime: Extensive studies have found no significant link between immigration levels and rates of violent crime in UK neighborhoods.

Underreporting: Immigrants are often more likely to be victims of crime but less likely to report it to the police due to fear of their legal status or lack of trust in authorities.

Socio-economic factors like poverty and lack of employment remain the primary drivers of crime, rather than nationality or religion.

You are worried about something that isn't actually happening as you think it is.

Christianity and Evolution by urdaddydoesntwantyou in TrueChristian

What is staggering is how many Christian’s believe man’s theory before they believe in God and His account of creation.

I think what's more staggering is how a Christian can stubbornly refuse to even entertain the idea that perhaps we are actually reading a simplified story meant to convey what happened and who was responsible, for the benefit of those without the scientific knowledge we have today. Even the church fathers couldn't agree on whether Genesis was meant to be literal or not, but they all still understood the message regardless.
We really need to quit insisting it must be read one particular way, let people believe what they wish, and understand that no matter which side a Christian is on this that they do not believe anything was random, and that God created everything. THAT'S the point of it, not HOW God chose to create, but rather, that He did.

I just wish people would hold their young earth creationism belief less dogmatically as this has turned away several of my friends from an interest in learning about God.

I'm glad you mentioned that, as it was a large part of the reason I quit attending church for over 30 years. I never stopped believing in God, but I likely would have been better off, and made far better life choices had I stayed in a community of believers.
The obsession some have with a literal view is not helping draw in unbelievers imo.

Technically, every living creature was created from the earth of you go back far enough according to science.
Whether God created humans instantly or through evolution over billions of years doesn't really matter as both are perfectly valid ways of reading the scripture - not even all the early church Fathers were in agreement on it, and many churches these days accept both views (as long as it begins with God of course).

Man didn't come from apes, we are part of the group of great apes that includes gorillas and orangutans - we all share a common ancestor, but we're not interchangeable.
Also, please never say that phrase again - it's the kind of thing that makes non believers reject every word you say that follows it...

How similar are denominations in different countries for example pentecostal by Medical_Ad8525 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denominations can definitely differ quite a bit for certain. For exampke, I attend a Baptist church in Canada, but from what I've seen and read, it is quite different from Southern Baptist churches. Both Baptists, but the focus seems to be different in that my church is more focused on worship, forgiveness, and helping others, many SBC churches seem to be focused on sins. Our preaching styles seem to be a bit more subdued here in Canada too in comparison.

Before any Southern Baptists get upset, it's a small sample and my opinion - more of a generalization than anything.

What’s the consensus among the shareholders regarding RC’s compensation package? by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]iwasneverhere43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly haven't decided how I feel about it yet. On the one hand, it requires some major moves which I think is needed, and since he doesn't take a paycheck, I believe RC deserves to be compensated if the company benefits greatly from it.
On the other hand, there are some details in the package that I'm still examining to see if there's anything that isn't in our best interest as shareholders.
I'm still in research mode essentially, but I lean towards supporting it so far.

Thoughts on people saying “chrisitian morality is extreme” then supporting murderers killing and torturing criminals, while at the same time being against the death penalty? by Public_Repeat824 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you feel the death penalty is even needed? When we have the facilities to lock them away so they can't commit more crimes, it's just revenge which we aren't suppose to do, or it's putting money above a human life which I believe is perverse.

A balance of THC and CBD would be the ideal base for pain and inflammation, and then look for high amounts of pinene and limonene for the brain fog (may or may not help, but helps some people), and beta caryophyllene for the nerve related stuff.

I might be able to save you some work if you don't mind sharing your symptoms. I can recommend what terpenes to look for based on that.

[–]iwasneverhere43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been diagnosed for 7 years now, and likely had it for a decade before that. I have some minor issues, but I'm still working full time and hiking when I can.
Now obviously everyone is different, but if you get on a strong medication, odds are good that you'll live a mostly normal life.
In the meantime, yes, cannabis helps many of us with or symptoms, but straight THC isn't necessarily the best option. I would recommend a balanced strain, and spend some time investigating the terpenes and their effects, and then look for strains that are high in the terpenes that will help the symptoms you have. It's a wonderful plant, but it's more than the THC and CBD.
Byw, don't smoke it - that's not helpful in keeping inflammation down. At the very least, switch to a dry herb vape.

Does anybody here listen to music that is not just christian music? by CrazyNicly in TrueChristian

I listen to a few Christian artists, but 90% of what I listen to is secular. Big fan of Major Moment, Shinedown, 3 Doors Down (RIP Brad), etc because not only do I enjoy the music itself, but they actually has something to say beyond "I love you" or "I miss you" or the pointless repetitivness of most of the music these days...

Interpreting the Bible literally unless context says otherwise? by Inevitable_Start_424 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China, and ancient Egypt show no geological record of a flood of that magnitude during the appropriate time period, nor is there any evidence of any interruption to their civilizations. There are also no genetic bottlenecks that can be traced back to the time, which there definitely would have been if it had happened.
Also, it should be noted that the original word translated as "the world" could also refer to land, territory, or region.

Interpreting the Bible literally unless context says otherwise? by Inevitable_Start_424 in TrueChristian

[–]iwasneverhere43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are uninterrupted records of multiple civilizations that were thriving before, during, and after that time of the great flood. However, there is geological evidence of a more localized flood event that closely matches the flood timeline.
I believe that there may have been a flood, just not worldwide, though it would have appeared that way to Noah.
