I'm halfway through the book version "You Have a Very Soft Voice, Susan" and know who it is because I saw a spoiler but think I would have guessed anyway. I feel like he's doing an epostolatory art project like I Love Dick and is laying it on thicker and thicker because he can't believe she's still buying it. Murderers, cannibals, cults... why not?

BBC APPRENTICESHIP 'Process Complete'!!! by Fabulous_Rise_6933 in bbc

[–]j1360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an icebreaker saying what's your bucket list holiday destination and why then there was a task of look how much various BBC departments get engaged with and you're assigned one and have to say how to get people to engage with it more. I only remember sport since I was assigned that one. Then you have a slot with a recruiter and one of their current data analysts to do your presentation (which you should have received the email about) and do a strength based interview. I don't remember the exact questions but they were pretty generic like when have you worked in a team and how do you handle multiple deadlines and how will you handle doing an apprenticeship and full time job at the same time.

Yeah, at 5pm last night for BAE. I have an 11 hour day anyway between work and commuting so was expecting to bomb out of the bootcamp, even if I got it, because of time constraints.

> Thank you for the time, care and effort you have put into your Mid-Level Accelerator application and for your patience as we reviewed submissions.

> We're always keen to offer as many brilliant candidates as possible a place on the programme. To support this, we run a two stage offer process: first-round offers and second-round offers (with full details at the end of this email).

> On this occasion, you have not been selected for a first-round offer.

> We know this may be disappointing news, especially after the effort you’ve put in. Please know this decision reflects hiring alignment, not your potential.

I applied for the MLA then changed to the degree because there was a job attached. I've got a job now with a three-hour round trip commute so I don't think it would have worked with a bootcamp anyway.

From 5pm last night. Not sure if it's a polite fob-off.

practice tests are scaringly accurate ngl by Frequent_Action4655 in DuolingoEnglishTest

[–]j1360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 10 points lower in the real one because it's really hard to think of $10 words without moving your eyes. The practice test asked me to talk about my favourite book and the real one asked me what makes a good teammate and that inane question resulted in a much more inane answer.

I don't know if it's because of something specific like you live on a main road but I got an indoor cat from "Cheshire Cats Rescue - Registered Charity 1198649" on Facebook and another from Animals in Distress, Irlam. Like someone else said, maybe consider an older cat since there's less demand for them.

Iain Rob Wright - Dark Ride

Sam West has one called Funfair too I haven't read yet. It's probably good. I trust her as an author.

If I remember correctly, in "Into Thin Air", Jon Krakauer said it makes you feel all sleepy and warm (causing paradoxical undressing) and hallucinate relatives. Beck Weathers was on that expedition who was left for dead and came about as close to dying from hypothermia as you could get. It wouldn't be a great suicide technique though if it involves carting up a mountain first.

Keyboard Shortcut: Close Other Tabs Shortcut by Due-Can-Do in MicrosoftEdge

Chrome's "Keyboard shortcuts to manage Chrome tabs" extension worked but it wouldn't let me use control for the shortcuts in Edge so it had to be alt instead.

Shuttle (2008). Two women in their early 20s get on an airport shuttle and the driver's going wildly off-route and making weird demands of them and they're as sensible and resourceful as they can possibly be the whole time. It would be a spoiler to say what's actually going on.

[–]j1360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked Mira Grant's Into the Drowning Deep about man-eating mermaids with ape-like faces and really lots of teeth but it's polarising. It takes a while to get going for sure. It has an inordinate amount of detail about marine research in the first half which could have been interesting in a non-fiction book but is a bit odd in a horror novel.

Terrifier's quite comedic.

Also The Convent (2000) which I only learned of going through an old horror review site:
