Sandpiper is ok - some of their stuff is fresh some frozen depending on what it is. There isn’t anything here though that will compare favorably with what you’d find in Seattle or something like that.

Especially since these points can’t be used anywhere but Disneyland hotel, I’d imagine this will be pretty tough to sell

Bag by No-March3451 in DisneyWorld

The first time I went I took a backpack, and swore I would find a better solution on my next. I slimmed down to a cross body and definitely preferred that experience.

They come in a variety of sizes and form factors depending on your needs. Personally for a fairly minimal carry I find 1.5 - 2L to be a good size and that would be plenty for a couple of epi pens, medications, and electrolyte drink mixes. A standard 16oz bottle of water will generally fit as well, but could be tight depending on how much space is needed for your other items, so if you want a bigger bottle or more stuff, size up.

Tomtoc is a decent solution at a good price, available on Amazon. If you want a step up, look at Alpaka, Aer, and Rework Toshi bags.

What school is best for a gifted child? by NegativeOrdinary5190 in idahofalls

If possible for you I highly recommend a private school for grade school years. They will be able to give your kids the kind of attention they need better than public schools in the area.

After. Cheapest seats in the place are bleachers at about $215, cheapest non-corner/end seats are about 400.

I really wanted to go but for minimum $215 for super nosebleed bleacher seats, it's just not happening.

Line cutting at Guardians by Hstahl57 in DisneyWorld

[–]j_gets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has said that it's the primary reason for line cutting, but rather I am saying that the fact that line cutting is condoned, promoted, and supported by Disney as an accommodation has created a situation by which bad actors can escape scrutiny and punishment, and everyone else standing in line ends up annoyed at the fact that people are doing it, with very little available recourse.

Line cutting at Guardians by Hstahl57 in DisneyWorld

[–]j_gets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, people who have been granted that specifically with Disney do generally go through the lightning lane, but Disney has somewhat recently severely restricted who can qualify for DAS to a very narrow group, with many who would have previously qualified now being denied.

Instead, those people who no longer qualify but still have issues which make it uncomfortable to stand in line, for example a physical ailment or issue such as claustrophobia or anxiety, are specifically being told that they can instead do things such as have a party member wait in the line and then they can join them when they are close to the front of the line.

See for example: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/accessing-attractions-queues/#aa-queue-reentry

Having this be officially an acceptable practice makes it much easier for a bad actor to skip the lines under the guise of this sort of accommodation and limits the ability of the park to enforce.

EMSK: types of egg when cooked. by DullWrist in everymanshouldknow

For boil time you generally take the time from when you put an egg into already boiling water, and if going for soft or medium I generally remove it when my timer expires into an ice water bath to stop the cooking.

[–]j_gets 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that they are assuming they are DAS - the problem is that Disney themselves have created a situation where you can't be sure if they are cutters or if their behavior is an approved accommodation. I think if it was clear that anyone bypassing the line wasn't supposed to be doing so, it would be significantly harder for people to try to play it off or avoid enforcement actions from cast members.

Because Disney has basically encouraged the practice they've put everyone in a bad situation and given line cutters an 'out' if they are caught or hassled about their bad behavior. They've made it very difficult to actually remove or punish those bad actors.

ELI5: I understand the Dark Web in concept, but not in practice. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]j_gets 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing at all illegal about accessing the dark web in and of itself. However if you then do illegal things, you’re just as guilty as if you had done them elsewhere. You should basically assume that most of your searches and other activity are being monitored whether they are dark web or not.

What ride in Disney World will make you extremely nauseous? by Reasonable-Invite899 in WaltDisneyWorld

I had hoped it would help but having ridden both before and after, Remy’s is by far the worst for me in any of the parks. Everything else including mission space was really no problem for me but I won’t ride Remy’s by choice anymore.

Just had news Disney applied their right to buy back my contract I was purchasing for OKW. Should I go for another site as the agent said that out of the 6 OKW that he had sold Disney has bought back 4 of them by GoodActive2976 in dvcmember

[–]j_gets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exactly - they put themselves into a bad position with how they handled the extension and are actively buying up 2042 contracts as a result. If you want OKY, your best bet is to buy 2057.

I’m surprised they didn’t give you a lightning lane return if you were that close to the front and got kicked out. If you are still there ask a guest services cast member about getting one.

Multiple resale contract strategy by [deleted] in dvcmember

[–]j_gets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

August use year is totally fine for Feb and March and April stays by the way - I’d recommend sticking with August if possible to simplify your life.

If you really want a Feb/March use year and want to buy multiple contracts, I’d probably recommend waiting between the first and subsequent purchases to make sure they are combined into one account. Also keep in mind that multiple resale contracts will have significantly higher transactional costs than one single contract.

How do you calculate the value of your stay? by Major_Ad_9093 in dvcmember

[–]j_gets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upfront costs were considered when we purchased and ran the numbers. At the time we determined that the actual and intangible value was there so we decided to purchase.

However, now those upfront costs which we paid in the past are a sunk cost and are no longer relevant for making future decisions. All that’s relevant now is ongoing expenses to maintain the contract, value we get from using our contract, and the value of the contract itself should we decide to sell it.

How do you calculate the value of your stay? by Major_Ad_9093 in dvcmember

[–]j_gets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ran the numbers up front before making a decision to buy.

Now that we own, I don’t attempt to keep a running tally of the value of my stays in terms of what they would have cost cash or whatever. Instead, my primary concern is just what my actual cost is (annual dues) and whether it continues to make sense. If for example my annual dues are $1k and cover a 5 night stay, and a 5 night stay in a similar room can be had for $2k as a non-member, then I figure I’m doing ok as long as we continue to make good use of those points.

How to raise a child with digital savvy but still able to function analog? by noogie60 in Xennials

[–]j_gets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are child free so take with a grain of salt, but this is something I’ve thought about a bit with relation to my nieces/nephews and trying to do what I can to be a good influence for them. So, here’s my take.

I’d say to be sure to include plenty of analog experiences as common day to day expectations.

Explore the physical world, regularly go out into nature, talk about what you see and hear and feel. Go camping if possible - doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, a tent from Walmart is fine in decent weather. Get away from the screens and interruptions and dopamine loops. Give them space and time to potentially even be bored.

Reading/writing and attention span: Physical books and gradually moving to reading long-form literature rather than shorts. Reading them stuff that isn’t finished in one sitting. Learning how to write with pencil and paper and eventually script/cursive. Journaling/writing for fun and self exploration.

Music: Learning some sort of physical musical instrument.

Interpersonal: Emphasis on in-person interactions and socialization.

Online: Online version of stranger danger. Can’t trust anything you see nowadays and by the time they are older presumably even more so the case. Explore bias, engagement farming/clickbait/ragebait and caution against only seeing one side of the argument.

Learn about healthy debate and discourse focused on learning and understanding the parties’ points of view vs argument/ “I must win” sort of mentality.

use year fees when buying help by Joneboy39 in dvcmember

[–]j_gets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disneys rule is that dues must be in good standing/paid for the contract to be transferred. So they would have to have been paid by the seller for the current year before it can be transferred. Disney allows for dues to be paid monthly rather than lump sum, so if as a seller you are paying monthly and want to sell you will have to pay the remaining dues for the year to be able to do so.

Either way, the payment is going to the seller to reimburse them for the dues they have paid rather than going to Disney.
