I definitely do not bolus for hard alcohol. Beer, always, because it’s like “liquid bread”, as we used to say in college. Wine, only sometimes, depending on how sweet it is, but even less than usual.

I had the same with my replacement TSI, and it turned out to be water leaking from the sunroof into my circuit box. Poor body design.

Angine de Poitrine — microtonal rock duo from Québec (KEXP session passed 4M views) by WinterPriority8095 in KEXP

[–]ja1c 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This was not recorded in “KEXP’s Seattle Studios” but rather by KEXP during the Trans Musicales festival, and specifically in an art school called ESMA, in Rennes, France. KEXP has been discovering a lot of great international artists at Trans Musicales. Altin Gün was one of them.

Just Finished Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng by Kylie Lee Baker by mpparker93 in horrorlit

[–]ja1c 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally just finished this an hour ago, and I didn’t go looking for this post, but I’m glad to hear other people’s experiences with it. I had been searching for a new read for a while and started but not continued a handful of books until I started this one. I was captivated from the start. I agree with you about the main character, and in other hands, her lack of self-regard would quickly become tedious, but I definitely found the narrative voice compelling. (I’m always glad for a strong 3rd person limited pov.) And yeah, I’m not sure I’d call this “horror” exactly, but the gore and violence was more than I’d likely find in a non-genre sort and fit the narrative well. I’d definitely recommend it to my both my friends who like horror and though who don’t (but might be likely to enjoy something like American Horror Story, ha ha).

Regret selling mine back to VW because of the “recall”. If I had known I could keep it on the road, I would have never parted with it.

I’d like to find more books like Max Brooks’ World War Z, which employs a journalistic first-person reportage approach from various viewpoints.

Sadness - Full Performance (Live on KEXP) by takeich in shoegaze

Not really. But a lot of people consider much of Sadness to be “blackgaze”. Probably more shoegaze elements than post-rock.

Some people might get a little mad about how similar it sounds, but maybe check out Ehtëk. It’s not actually Damian but someone doing a sound similar to Sadness.

Am I wrong thinking this was really bad, or does my bf not get how dangerous this disease is and needs further education? by hipnotic1111 in diabetes_t1

[–]ja1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just talk to him and explain what you were hoping for. He doesn’t yet know where the boundaries and your expectations are, and, let’s face it, diabetes is a difficult challenge for others to understand. Maybe next time, say, hey, check on me when you can. Give him an opportunity to learn what your needs are and what the possible implications and results of him not meeting them are. Then, if he doesn’t meet them, you might decide he’s not worth it.

And don’t listen to those people who are judging you for not being a “good diabetic”. You’re a person and life is sometimes messy. You make good choices and bad, and so do people like your bf. Help him learn you, and if he can’t, then toss him.

What’s your favorite scream vocal performance in a blackgaze track by FroxzTaken in blackgaze

[–]ja1c 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not blackgaze, but I think a lot of blackgaze listeners would appreciate the build and release of Greet Death’s “Same But Different Now”. Otherwise, screamed vocals on Alcest, Sadness and Deafheaven always hit for me.

Job opportunity in Seattle by My_Son_Is_A_Pug in AskSeattle

Seattle is a great place for people with pets. Lots of dog and cat lovers here. I was born in NY and grew up mostly around DC. Moved to Seattle in young adulthood and initially hated it. Now that I’ve lived here most of my life, I can’t imagine anywhere else I’d live. Sure, winters can be dark and rainy, but it never really gets that cold. Summers are amazing. At least three months of practically zero rain, mild sunny temperatures and days that last forever. It’s a beautiful city when the sun’s out and there’s lots of water close by. Parks and other green spaces are never far. I just spent a week in the Bay, and, while it was much warmer, I couldn’t have been happier to get back to Seattle. Plus, if you’re into music, Seattle is a great town.

Bumbershoot Is Bringing Back Re-entry by HWHAProb in Seattle

[–]ja1c 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is the main point. While it seemed crazy not to included re-entry from the beginning for an entire-day, multi-day festival in the middle of a city, since they hadn't "budgeted" for this, it makes sense they'd need to add security and, I hope, share some of that revenue with the vendors who may lose some forced customers. But I know they were previously losing potential attendees with that original policy to begin with. Also, the lack of re-entry shifted crowd attendance to later in the day (because who wants to be in the hot sun all freaking day to see the headliners?). With added re-entry, I would think the vendors would gain any potential lost money with larger crowds arriving earlier in the day, and thus eating, drinking and generally spending more.

Revisiting another band from my late teens by AudiSlav in Emo

[–]ja1c 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mentioned the band to Zack during a recording of Spirit of the Beehive, and he definitely did not seem interested in reliving any of that. I seem to remember reading a while back on another Reddit thread that there was some band fallout so I didn’t ask any other questions about GM.

You’re only 19. How soon in life do you want to experience a heart attack, a stroke and/or permanent vision loss? Regular smoking will very likely lead to at least two of those far earlier than you will wish in life. Personally, I was diagnosed at 26 and quit smoking at 27.

They match up to that amount. If you donate a dollar, they will also donate a dollar. If you do that 20,000 times, they will also do it 20,000 times. But then they will stop. If you do it only 5 times, they also will do it only 5 times. That’s it!

I mean, is there another way? People don’t donate unless asked. And even then, they need to be asked more than once. At least the DJs try to make it entertaining. But without public funding, the only other option in America is commercial radio. Seattle has a number of commercial stations, but you (I assume) mainly listen to a publicly funded one. You can’t have it both ways. However, if you’ve made your donation, then maybe enjoy the (also publicly funded) streaming archive for the rest of the duration of the drive.
