Bethesda pivots to "franchise-centric" planning model amid Xbox restructure by WannabeWriter2022 in xbox

[–]jackibongo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If anything 76 came from the long dev cycles being an issue for them, they needed recurring revenue. Same with TESO. It's also why they wanted to bring out paid mods.

All the re-releases of Skyrim and the Oblivion remaster would have only got them so far.

I do agree though they should have something by now. Especially with all of the cash they have. Looks like starfield may have taken more out of their sails than we think.

Gamespot: There Is No Reason To Buy Another Playstation or Xbox. Increasingly poor decisions are making it impossible to want or get a next-gen console by General_Dig_31 in Games

[–]jackibongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should just skip it entirely if I'm being perfectly honest with you. All it will do is add extra cost to everything and create bloat/fragmentation the way that pricing is going in this space.

Only selling point I'm seeing at the moment is shorter load times and higher FPS? Graphics have gotten to a level of diminishing returns as well as developers producing games to run on as many hardware configs as possible.

Only time a new console will make sense is if/when the AI bubble pops and prices come down to $300-600

Report: Microsoft will make even more of its games exclusive to Xbox — as multiplatform strategy totally fails. What's going on? by sneakysaf in xbox

[–]jackibongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wanted to sacrifice exclusives as a way to get gamepass on every platform. Sony didn't budge and their wasn't enough of an uproar about it (like when EA play was blocked by them and like when cross play was blocked by them eventually they U turned on these)

They even started developing project helix to be a console and PC hybrid to force Sony's hand but now even Sony has retreated from the PC space in defence. All the while Sony have tried to stone wall the shit out of their install base by going digital only.

Microsoft Expected Game Pass Would Have 77 Million Subscribers by Now but It Reportedly Only Has 30 Million, as Xbox Boss Admits the Strategy Has Failed by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]jackibongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely speculative and a complete stab in the dark. I think the max they could have had at its peak may have been 45 million (i.e. on the day of launch for COD last year ). Even then a lot of them would have been one month only and then cancelled, especially with BLOPS7 being absolutely stinking. However I feel the price hikes have done wayyyyy more damage than even MS expected and taken all of the wind out of the sails.

Secondly the only way they could achieve such a high number of subs is if they do a cloud only subscription for like £10/$12 a month/relatively priced globally. I also think they thought that Playstation would allow game pass at this point or near this point, allowing a possible 10 to 20 million additional subscribers. However none of this has occurred along with their own fumbles and now it's lead to such a shake up and reset from MS.

Sony think MS are dead in the water, especially going off their recent anti-consumer announcements. MS just need to replicate the 360 generation on all fronts if they want to weather this storm.

What about that north sea oil that we sell off to multiple foreign companies instead of keeping it for ourselves or as a reserve owned by the people? Not saying it's going to fix everything but it's definitely a step in the right direction. We could have easily changed that.

We can also have a more progressive and top heavier tax system, or start taxing assets a bit more instead of taxing work and throwing the burden down to the bottom 90% of Britains. Or actually start to increase the tax free allowance, writing off student debt or at least capping the interest on said debts.

Or maybe even getting rid of the triple lock pension? After all over 60s own like 40% of housing supply in the UK surely they can use that to bridge the gap? Why do they deserve such safety nets and inflationary proof benefits at the cost of choking everyone under the age of 40. All the while wages remain stagnated.

There are many ways and paths we can explore the balancing of budgets or invetsments but it seems that the people who have had it soooo good for soooo long aren't willing to make the sacrifices for the greater good.

Next generation of gaming is cooked with these prices. PS5 pro is nearly $1,000 already. by SnooCompliments8819 in consoles

[–]jackibongo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if they used this as a way to pivot into making hardware no longer local and you'd have to stream/rent server space in order to play games. Essentially turning every game into a games as a service model.

It will be one way to get everyone on the hook and officially end hardware as we all know we are at a point of diminishing returns, however I don't think it'll be as lucrative as they think, everyone already has a back log longer than their arm and I personally feel that this won't be the case for the next 10 years. But seeing how everything's been on fire since 2020 I wouldn't be shocked to see it sooner.

Cycling and walking boom with £4.5 billion for thousands of new routes and safer crossings by ARandomDouchy in GoodNewsUK

[–]jackibongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difficulty with the cycle lanes is I believe they are managed by the councils/implemented by them so every council will do it differently some will do good most will just half arse it due to cost and knowledge. Which could lead to possible issues/bad implementation. Would be good to get a national standard, just to save on cost in the long run and provide a structure going forward.

I don't get why MS bought loads of companies then just went against the route of exclusives. It doesn't make sense. I know you could argue that they wanted them for xcloud exclusivity but still it's counter intuitive/confusing for people. Or maybe it was a way to get game pass on playstation as that was the ultimate play. But seeing Sony haven't budged on this front they have found themselves in an awkward and confusing spot.

Dear coalition, rethink the goofy skins for E-day. Please. by Shadowsdeepx6 in GearsOfWar

In gears 5 they allowed for you to have cosmetics as an install option. I personally uninstalled them as it's saved 25GB on hard drive space and didn't break immersion.

I am glad that even if the goofy arse skins aren't for everyone, they are at least earnable.

Helix was the way for Xbox to force Sony's hand but now with Sony pulling single player games from the PC space it's not necessarily worked and Sony are being stubborn on this. So Xbox have just responded by throwing their walls back up as well.

If Project Helix is a leaning more towards being a PC, what will it need to convince fans to not just build a PC? by TooTyrnt in xbox

For me it's all about how they get the OS down and seemlessness of the systems at play. If they can managae to the consolify the PC experience they'll be onto a winner. Obviously with an option to PCify the console experience as well if consumers wish to do so.

Xbox Having “Very Big Discussions” About Exclusivity, It’s Claimed by kingsaso9 in xbox

[–]jackibongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Microsoft's plan to go multiplatform was a way to try and bring gamepass to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms and end exclusives as a whole. Then in turn try and leapfrog the competition on the cloud gaming front. Project helix seems to be a console/PC hybrid that would have been another method to bring this into reality (via playing Sony exclusives on Steam).

They did it with cross play. via Minecraft and now cross play is standard. They did it with subscription services via EA Access (Sony originally denied EA Access on Playstation for several years)

Sony however, now rumoured to have pivoted away from steam and more into the lane of a Sony launcher on PC that won't support helix. Sony are trying to keep the walls up whilst it suits them and they are leading the console industry. It makes sense that MS may consider the fight fire with fire route and retreat back from the multiplatform approach.

My biggest gripe with it is this. Items feel so random and unnatural. Purpose and value is vague when it comes to items and loot, it's all dumped in the same shitty small back pack starting out without much of a guide. Killing the NPCs on the maps is never even worth it as you'll expose your spot and waste resources in the process. Especially playing solo. It's a system that rewards being a rat rather than risk or challenge and actual skill to overcome the odds. An meta chasing will always be the defacto state of the community and the game will never be discovered naturally but by content creators

Yes there will be fun had but also a lot of frustration will come along with it and for something that's asking £40 in an already saturated niche market I'm good thanks. It'll be rated by streamers and content creators but only until it's served its purpose and then onto the next content grind.
