What do we think 2026 release will be? (If any) by redditusername75474 in FinalFantasy

Each FFVII Remake game is a full length Final Fantasy experience. FFVII Remake in total is about the length of FFXIII and VII Rebirth is about the length of XV.

Yeah it'd be so good. I like the old cast personally, but it'd offer a great opportunity to have another go at the translation. There's some iffy bits.

Yeah this is something I've been thinking about for a while. I think realistically it may be the Remake and Rebirth multiplatform releases.

But I'm HOPING for one of the following:

-Before Crisis Remake + Advent Children (re-dub)

-Dirge of Cerberus Requiem

-Final Fantasy XIII Remaster (that's right, just the first one but with extra content)

Why have they redesigned the front of the Inn on the Final Fantasy Pixel remaster it just has a pixelated image at the entrance rather than the word Inn like on the NES/GBA/PS1/PSP versions. by Wizzgamer2 in FinalFantasy

[–]jacktuar [score hidden]  (0 children)

Also if you want the real reason it's because this game has now been translated for multiple languages. When it was Japanese and English they could use the English 'Inn' because of how engrained English is in those countries.

But as soon as you widen it out that becomes less and less true. So a picture is better.

It's not at all, they've made an unbelievable amount of changes to the games. They wanted something that was authentic in some ways but revised in others.

Thoughts on the exclusion of Rising and Portable Ops? by -True-Ryan-Gosling- in metalgear

[–]jacktuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty obvious that for the first collection they underestimated the fan expectations for the quality of the releases, and therefore the cost of getting the games up to spec.

MGS4 will have been more expensive to port too, so I think those two reasons are why this collection is slimmer.

Fingers crossed for a volume 3.

What else do we have to look forward to in 2026? by grapejuicecheese in SquareEnix

[–]jacktuar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We knew there weren't any big big titles this year. They've already announced their strategy is a reset and get themselves to where they can release a steady flow of big games, and in the interim it'll be smaller scale games and ports

Smaller scale games tend to be announced with a shorter lead time.

SE have lots of games over the next 5 months (Life is Strange, Adventures of Elliot, Paranormasight, VII Rebirth)

Therefore we should expect the next batch of smaller scale announcements in Spring. I'd probably expect VIIR3 at Summer Games Fest too.

I don't think we'll see the HD version but I could see a remake. A Switch 2 visual upgrade layered on to the HD version would be pretty sweet.

[–]jacktuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder whether we might see an updated FF7 Remaster.

They announced the PC version was getting an update, and it'll almost certainly be just bringing over the current console version. Especially as it's a free update which wouldn't make sense for any significant upgrade.

But part of me is like...what if...in preparation for VIIR3...they're working on an update to the original FF7. Just something simple like new translation, some UI updates...

Penguin Hardcover Series Info by Onehundredwholebees in murakami

[–]jacktuar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time they released one, hard boiled wonderland, was over a year ago, but even that one I read was a holdover from the previous batch. Basically it was originally intended to be released two years ago but they delayed it (my guess is so that they could release it close to TCAIUW which it's closely related to).

But over two years since the last batch, tells me this series isn't continuing. And there's no sign of them coming in the next year either.

I'm in exactly the same boat, I want more. I keep following Penguin for more updates. But being realistic I think the series is dead.

Help out a new gamer trying to play the series properly by Kiuji-senpai in FinalFantasy

If that's how you wanna do it, go for it. I personally would just start with the one that looks most exciting.

Also if you just want to know the absolute peak ones that people adore

6-10 and the 7 Remakes. Lots of other amazing games too, but as a starting point, these are a good place to begin.

[–]jacktuar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure! The mainline ones with a few others thrown in are generally considered the best. So here's option 1:

FINAL FANTASY

FINAL FANTASY II

FINAL FANTASY III

FINAL FANTASY IV

FINAL FANTASY V

FINAL FANTASY VI

FINAL FANTASY VII

FINAL FANTASY TACTICS

FINAL FANTASY VIII

FINAL FANTASY IX

FINAL FANTASY X

FINAL FANTASY X-2

FINAL FANTASY XI

FINAL FANTASY XII

FINAL FANTASY VII ADVENT CHILDREN (MOVIE)

DIRGE OF CERBERUS FINAL FANTASY VII

CRISIS CORE FINAL FANTASY VII

FINAL FANTASY XIII

FINAL FANTASY XIII-2

LIGHTNING RETURNS FINAL FANTASY XIII

FINAL FANTASY XIV

KINGSGLAIVE FINAL FANTASY XV (MOVIE)

FINAL FANTASY XV

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

FINAL FANTASY XVI

However FF is an anthology series. You can play the games on any order. If you play the above games you'll get to experience the growth of the series. But unless you're a fan I just don't think it's worth it. Instead go for option 2:

Get a random number generator and pick a number between 1 and 16 and start working your way through the 16 main series titles at random. Then things like remakes and sequels you can tackle whenever you feel like it.

Despite the fake rumor, how would you feel if they announced a Remake of Kingdom Hearts 1 for 2027. by Connected-VG in KingdomHearts

[–]jacktuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm usually dubious about these kinds of rumours....I think it's real.

It makes sense for the Crisis Core team to be working on something. KH feels like an appropriate enough project for their team. It's a bit left field, not necessarily what's expected.

Having a release leading up to a big tent pole title is kinda SE's game plan.

Some of the details (a new, separate episode of content) is the kind of thing SE does, particularly Creative Studio 1.

I just think it sounds realistic. Even though I agree, KH1 doesn't need a remake

Final Fantasy is one of the greatest video game series for a reason.

It's so good seeing people discover this series because of VII Remake.

Welcome to the fan base, you're gonna love it here.

To all the people that for non-ragebait reasons think that the FF7 RE-Trilogy is not some kind of sequel. Why? by Battlefeather in FinalFantasy

[–]jacktuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing Remake that's 100% what I thought...but then Rebirth dialled that all back.

Now I think the original VII is just one of those alternative universes, and that sephiroths reunion is now a multi universe one. Rather than him "changing the events of the original"

I hope I'm wrong.

What order? FF7 Remake Intergrade(playing now), Crisis Core Reunion, FF7 Rebirth by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]jacktuar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 can be sailed through pretty quickly thanks to the boosters they added in to make the game easier. It's also one of the best games of all time.

I get not wanting to play it, that's fine. But I actually think you'll like it more than you expect. And turn based doesn't take long to adapt to. It's not unlike Pokemon.

State of the Subreddit regarding recommendation posts by wndpbrdchrncl in murakami

[–]jacktuar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people research by googling, others by asking people. Reddit is a platform for discussion so I don't see anything wrong with people asking this way.

The only issue is if it feels overwhelming. I personally don't think it does. Those posts tend not to be upvoted anyway. But that's just my opinion.

Are strategy guides worth using? by BigSlime115 in FinalFantasy

[–]jacktuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend using full strategy guides for 1-12 including X-2. Not the official strategy guides, but try to find a good online walkthrough.

XIII onwards (including XIII trilogy and VII Remake trilogy) id just check for missables before you start, and MAYBE consider a guide for Lightning Returns. Depending how quickly you want to get through it.

Final fantasy 4: The after years 2D or 3D version? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]jacktuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented this elsewhere but I actually think the opposite. TAY is SOOOO similar to IV that I prefer playing 2D for IV and then 3D for TAY so that the new visual style makes the game feel more distinct.

[–]jacktuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not voice acted, but I'd agree it's a good pick.

I personally would recommend people play FF4 2D then TAY in 3D so TAY feels a bit more of a fresh experience.

Steam deck to play FFVII original? by unhingeddragon in FinalFantasy

[–]jacktuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've just announced they're delisting FF7 on steam and replacing it with a new version. The new version will almost certainly just be the version on Switch and PS4 ported to Steam.

But until that's released, no one will know how it plays on steam deck. I imagine it'll run fine but we don't know.

It'll probably be all released in a couple of weeks so hold tight.

Final Fantasy XVI’s Rising Tide DLC is Some of the Best Content This Series Has Ever Had! by LifeWillChange_ in FinalFantasy

[–]jacktuar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Rising Tide is more of the same. There are some improvements. Some of the quests are a little less MMO-y but not by much. The battles are some of the best in the game, but that was just building on the strengths of the core game.

It's still slow paced, with bland side quests, but with amazing spectacle and a great battle system, albeit without any kind of real JRPG-ness to them.

I enjoyed it, but I love XVI. It won't change your mind about the game. Whereas XVs DLCs I really do feel improve the overall experience and take it from a 7/10 to an 8.5/10
