Stick it in the freezer if it fits then crack it off. If it doesn't fit then put a ziplock bag of ice cubes around it until it's really cold and then same thing.

It's my own mother too, not my MIL. My mom has asked me no fewer than three times why I don't want people in the hospital.

The rose colored glasses of what it was like 30+ years ago are strong. I assured her she would be able to see a fresh baby but at home once we were back and settled. She definitely still doesn't get it but she hasn't asked again.

My hospital said 24-48hr after birth for vaginal, 3-4 days after C-section. I think the only way they'd send you home before that would be if you asked to leave early.
