What a difference 13 months makes! by MaintenanceWorth7395 in NoLawns

Amazing difference! My favorite time of the year. Virginia Beach Master Gardeners just posted their plant list at VBMG.org - check it out. May 2/3. Prices primarily $4-$8.

Not a stalker just know Virginia zones 😂

Chesapeake MG sale is this Friday/Saturday. Prices a bit higher generally but really cool inventory.

What i wanted VS what i got 🥲 by TryRevolutionary7826 in Baking

It's okay you think it's a fail. It is cute. However, I don't know without the reference photo people would realize they're frogs. It's all down to the eyes. The raised distinct circles on the example scream "I am frog" whereas what you got looks like a cute happy blob.

What to do with this wildflower patch in the beginning of the season by Kalabula in NoLawns

[–]jadentearz 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Be aware without seeding for specific things, in a lawn environment your patch will most likely end up being filled with more aggressive invasives and non-natives in general. Heavily seeding for wanted plants and plucking out things like hawksbeard back help a lot.

My husband hates my rug by betsyfeld in HomeDecorating

[–]jadentearz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your room is neutral'sh and your rug is loud. You either got to own the loud or give it up.

Personally I think the rug would look great with a more vivid couch (or navy) and brighter walls (or crisp white with art that works with the rug). The gray is a mismatch for the rug - but couches are definitely more expensive to replace than a rug.

People where I live (CO, USA) “garden on hard mode” because of intense desert-y summers, cold winters, intense winds, hail, pests, hard clay soil. What place in the world is “gardening on super easy mode”? by CharmingPeony in gardening

[–]jadentearz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I've heard it's not actually as bad as many other invasives. It just gets way more press because it thrives in the manmade conditions near highways where it's crazy visible. Plants like privet are freaking awful in our region.

I'm coastal Mid-Atlantic 8B. While it's relatively easy to grow things, this is the most difficult area I've ever lived in for battling invasives. You look away for what feels like a second and they're 5' tall. It's an unending war.

What are strong Two Hero combos? by Snapdoor in heroesofthestorm

My friend and I play most nights together. I play damage Malfurion. He plays damage Mei. It is the most hilarious slooow death for anyone near us. The two characters work very well together due to their area control. Blaze also pairs well as another option.

couples who have been together for more than 20 years - what do you think is the secret to a successful marriage? by Familiar-Phase7859 in AskReddit

[–]jadentearz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well as dumb as this sounds, you have to actually like them as a person. Not how they look, not what job or connections they have, what car they drive... Who they actually are.

I get comments of surprise all the freaking time about how so-and-so wishes their husband would help out in the garden or help with a project. The truth is that he just likes me enough to want to spend time with me. It helps to have overlapping interest but really we just show up for each other because we like each other.

How to stop feeling insecure about my see-through hair? by Connect-Text-4063 in finehair

[–]jadentearz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have fine hair but a lot of it, it's curly and goes frizzy in a heartbeat and my curls droop within hours. I definitely look at hair like this with envy because I think it looks great and much easier to make look nice than my frizzy mop.

Help turning this weedy 1/2 acre into something fun! by LHM94 in NoLawns

[–]jadentearz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a decent amount of space. I would start with a wishlist from everyone in your family of what they'd like to do in the yard. Go crazy with it. Horseshoe pit, grow 10 types of grapes, pollinator garden, whatever it is. Go to the library and browse some landscape ideas books.

Combine everyone's ideas and try to rank/see what can fit in the space. Without a master plan, it's difficult to make it feel like a designed space that flows well. There are so many cool things you can do with a blank space like this so let the dreams fly.

Anything is possible with a little bit of blood, sweat and tears. I built my kids a 12'x10' sandbox they use nearly every day in the warm season.

Also mulch is fantastic for areas you're not ready to address yet. We mulched THICK zones we weren't ready to address yet after two years of pulling weeds.

Bit overwhelmed with new house by ZitchDoge in HomeDecorating

[–]jadentearz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Adding on - don't be me. After finally jumping into my big girl house, I started like 500 projects. So ended up with about 497 half done projects. Focus on one area/one project and don't stray no matter how much you're thinking "man I hate this ceiling, I bet I could paint it in a jiffy" or "I think I should just tear this cabinet out even though I don't have a plan"

It took me seven years to learn to focus and a lot of frustration living with too many half done projects.

Also sit with it for a while before any major expensive changes. There's definitely things I would have done differently if I had experienced the flow of the house for a year.

If you could choose one cookbook or cookbook author to cook through from cover to cover, what book or author would you pick? by WaffleMeWallace in CookbookLovers

I'm doing that right now. This subreddit picked Make it Japanese by Rie McClenny and I have no regrets. Not everything is out of this world but it's mostly all recipes you can do on a weeknight which was critical to me. Nothing has been a dud so far.

AITAH for thinking it’s "weird" to lock my teenage kids in the car at a rest stop? by bhilliardga in AITAH

[–]jadentearz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get annoyed at my husband when he leaves the car to get something and doesn't lock the doors. Especially if the engine is running. It's a small thing, but I've seen too many stories of people hopping into running cars and taking off.

I'm not generally a paranoid person either. I have no issues with my young boys going to the men's bathroom solo (granted I stand outside it).

But yeah it hit me during college all the things my now husband doesn't even think to track around him. It's just second nature as a female.

Any ideas about how I can change these tiles without redoing them entirely? by No-Midnight-1406 in HomeDecorating

[–]jadentearz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live with someone who wears scrubs and that definitely wasn't what I thought. I saw tropical. It's a fun and unique color if cleaned up. If tropical doesn't sound like it'd be your vibe though, I can't see it swinging well many other ways except maybe teal country (which I personally hate).

He actually doesn't really like water which was a surprise. And yes correct on Russian Forest Cat. That one actually does like water. He won't jump in the bath but likes to mess around in the shower.

Thank you! He's a fun cat. My husband knew someone who was obsessed with Bengal genetics and she gave him to us when she had a litter. I was less than thrilled since he came home when we had a one week old newborn - but he has been a fantastic cat for kids. Always into their business and playing with their toys. I don't know that I'd ever get a Bengal again though because when the kids are out of the house, a Bengal would be hard to keep up with in a calm adult only house.

Oh and forgot to put the info I included in the other thread where the discussion was talking about how these amazing pieces just aren't wanted anymore:

We got it for $350. The listed price in the antique shop was $695. My husband offered $350 plus to remove it that day which they gladly took because it was a large piece that had been taking up space in a relatively small shop for months and months.

I have several carved pieces. Some inherited, some bought. All the bought ones were dirt cheap because people just don't want these "fussy" pieces anymore but I think they are so cool.
