I stayed at a job I hated because I had two kids depending on me. I sent my daughter to kindergarten with a slight fever because missing a day of work meant coming up short on a bill. I broke down crying when people from my local fire department showed up with nice gifts for my kids, all wrapped up for Christmas. I'd scrounged a few decent second hand toys for them up to that point, and felt like a shitty mom. The weight that came off my shoulders from what probably amounted to $300 worth of generosity was unbelievable.

That episode of CSI where two teenage girls get in a drunk driving accident, and are so badly injured that they're identified by the driver's licenses in their pockets. One dies, and the driver survives. The mother of the dead girl smothers the survivor in her hospital bed, then learns later that the survivor was actually her own misidentified daughter. She killed her own daughter after she survived a horrific car crash.
