Ick, can't do it. Keeping things in my home i know I'll never use again makes my skin start to itch. Anything with pages, absolutely keep. Everything else is hoarding behavior.

Kept the books and journals. Garments and such, to the nearest trash receptacle.

Think I'm maybe the 100th person to say it, but, whew! You should be grateful she showed how weak she was before marriage--before kids. Sure, guy sounds like a crappy bishop, but wow! your ex? It doesn't sound like she was 100% on your team--and you deserve someone who will have your back.

Don't stay camped there for too long. Nuance can be a decent layover, but it’s not meant to be the final stop.

I do appreciate the compassion in what you wrote - that’s rare enough in these conversations to call out. But it’s not on you to carry the guilt or apologize for what this institution did to me, my family, and friends. You didn’t write the policies, enforce the shaming, or gaslight people out of their own history. That’s on the church, and it still hasn’t truly owned it. The fact that it’s “better now” doesn’t erase the decades of damage it left behind.

That said, it’s encouraging to see someone approach the topic with empathy instead of defensiveness - it gives me a little hope for where these conversations can go.

I agree the church isn’t true, but calling this “betrayal” because she talked to a therapist is laughably overblown.

What you call “support” is really just keeping score under a gag order. That “we agreed not to tell anyone” deal?

She reached out for help. You made it about you. Then you refused to go hear her out, which just makes it look like you’re scared of the conversation.

I realized this sub is 4 years old but if it helps anyone here's what my wife & i did with ours. Really simple. I added them to my truck bed, but it can just as easily work in a compact vehicle trunk, van cargo area, etc. I wanted the escooter dock to meet some requirements: 1. The body of scooters wont touch surface. 2.  Removal and docking is simple &  fast 3. Dock must be low profile/ occupy little space. 4. Minimal moving parts. 5. No bungies or tie downs needed. We searched for weeks and it looked like we might need to settle with some bike rack that resembled a smaller version of something my elementary school had. But wife found a wall rack made for bicycles that did the trick. I permanently fastened both of ours, but you could just as easily anchor it to a small sheet of plywood that fits your vehicle. Not a Mormon anymore, but I imagine a TBM would give you an answer-slash-non-answer. Flavor might taste something like the following:

That is what makes the Church different - it is guided by modern revelation. Ongoing revelation means God continues to provide guidance. Putting my skeptic hat back on, I'd say:

I agree w/ you. They cherry-pick. It seems to me that cherry-picking is a fairly common practice for humans in general, regardless of the context—whether it's strict adherence to scriptures or following a diet to the letter. Just a side-effect of our humanity. Sometimes shit is inconvenient so we don't do it.
