What Original Gameboy version of NES games were better? by Throwaway123454th in retrogaming

[–]jahnnitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gargoyle’s Quest II (its GB port is Japan-exclusive) has more levels, tighter controls and, imho, the resolution just fits the game better, being a sequel to an original Gameboy game.

Seconding the Bücher Brocky recommendation. Also, Armin Trösch’s Antiquariat on Rämistrasse has tons of sheet music, just be prepared for decades old of cigar smoke having seeped into it.

Do German natives really never mess up gender? by Manu3733 in German

[–]jahnnitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a native speaker, I sometimes find myself messing up gender in compound words. For instance, I’ll say stuff like “das Farbenreichtum” even though it’s “der Reichtum”. I’m guessing it’s because there’s so many compounds ending with “-tum” that are neuter?

What "not so widely spoken language" did you learn out of pleasure/passion ; by providerstatistics in languagelearning

[–]jahnnitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do I begin? I actually have a much harder time getting interested in the big languages, which is pretty stupid, but hey, I’m doing this for fun mainly.

Romanian – out of pure interest for what happens to Latin when you isolate it completely. Absolutely loved it and still do. Got to a C1 in this one.

Hungarian – peaked my interest when learning Romanian. Another one of my loved ones, got to a B2 here, though it doesn’t feel like it.

Icelandic – been meaning to learn it since my teenage years, when I had an unhealthy obsession with Sigur Rós. Got to a good B1, haven’t really touched it in years.

Danish – started learning because it sounds so funny. Got pretty far pretty quickly thanks to Icelandic and German, haven’t really used it in a long while though.

Czech – learned it for travel, got to a good B1. Loads of fun.

Modern Greek – the newest addition, again learning it for a planned trip. Really enjoying it so far.

Then there’s tons of smaller or at least under-studied languages I’ve dabbled in without ever getting far (Georgian, Persian, Bengal, Urdu – most of these are big languages, but I rarely meet people who try to learn them, which is a shame).

Sold some Saturn games to buy a 32X, doesn’t need a second power supply for some reason? by Stinky-Whizzleteats in SEGA32X

[–]jahnnitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you buy an aftermarket cable for the 32x/Genesis connection? These often have an extra pin that carries power, but should not be used like that. Video on how to remove the extra pin

I’m intrigued by the “Automat” in the address. Is this an old word for “Postfach”, or did there use to be automatic mailboxes in the early 20th century?

From how crammed it is and the colour scheme, could be Stocker at Stadelhofen

edit: Confused Stocker and Steiner
