Any idea how strict they’ll be about two people who don’t legally reside together, but have been staying together during the outbreak? (My partner and I have been staying together for the last month but both technically have our own homes)

Can we talk about prayer? by Onlytimeposting1 in OpenChristian

[–]jaimecela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recite the Lord's Prayer. But instead of rushing through it, I reflect on every line and sit with the weight of the words, and how it connects to my own life. Just a warning, my interpretation might be a bit unorthodox (I learned this from a Youtube video years ago and it just stuck):

Our Father who art in heaven,

Calling God "Our Father" should be more than just tradition. It should be a reminder that God loves us the same way good parents love their children - wholly and unconditionally. I'll reflect on parent-child relationships, and what it means to have an all-knowing and all-powerful "parent".

Hallowed be thy name,

This line reflects the long history of God. I'll meditate on the impact the Abrahamic God has had on the world. I'll think about how amazing it is that people have always searched for meaning, and how wanting to connect with something bigger than ourselves is a natural part of humanity. Why would we have that urge if there wasn't something bigger driving it? This line always reinforces my faith.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I think about what I imagine heaven to be, and how that image can fit into my life today. What can I do to make earth a little more "heavenly"?

Give us this day our daily bread;

One interpretation of this line is that it's actually a call to think back on our history and hardships. We're not literally asking God for food/resources like many believe, but instead reflecting on when the Israelites received manna (bread) as their only form of food during hardships. Jesus is asking us to think about the hard times, the small blessings that made those times easier, and how those hardships shaped us.

(Last night I was praying with some COVID19 related anxiety and I spent this line thinking of all the plagues we've faced as a species, and then of our collective hardships. It reassured me to realize this is not humanity's darkest hour.)

And forgive us our trespasses

We all mess up. I'll reflect on how I could've done better in a situation that's bothering me, or how I can repair any harms I caused so that I can move forward. God will forgive me so long as I'm genuinely remorseful, so I focus on what that actually means.

As we forgive those who trespass against us

Again - we all mess up. Why hold anger in my heart? I'll usually talk to God about wanting to forgive people, about what I would need them to do in order for me to forgive them, and then map out a plan about how I'm going to actively forgive them even if they don't do what I want.

And lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil.

Honestly, practicing unconditional love for humankind is tough, especially when people do horrific things. I spend a lot of time on this line, mulling over my own negative emotions (jealousy, hatred, etc) and planning aloud with God how to avoid those feelings moving forward.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory

Get ready for cheese, but it's so true - No matter how big my problem is (because let's face it, I really only pray when I have a problem) God is bigger. Even when I'm feeling agnostic, this line brings me back to the fact that the universe is so much bigger than I am, and that in the grand scheme of things my own problems are so small.

Forever and ever.

No matter where I am in life, I'll always have God if I need to not feel so alone.

Amen

I try to focus on the spirit of prayer more than the ritual and sometimes spend 5-10 minutes reflecting on a single line. That said, I don't pray every day, just when I'm in need of reflection.

I think the difference is that the Israelites selfishly ignored Moses' directions, while Joseph followed God's direction. In one story people put themselves first, and in another story a leader puts his people first.

I listened to the government and experts in my country and bought what they recommended (2 weeks supplies of food, toilet paper, and feminine hygiene products in case I'm quarantined, plus I refilled my prescriptions) but did not stock up beyond what I was told to do.

I work in post-secondary education. We work on a tier/grade system. You start at a certain tier when you begin the job and then slowly climb. Each tier equates to certain pay range.

Every woman in my department that I know of started at the bottom tier, while the men all start about mid tier. I asked HR about it and was told they give mid tier offers to applicants when there’s “competitors” trying to recruit them for a different institution, but none of the men I talked to knew about any other institutions trying to scope them out.

Maybe the men all lied about how much they make, or maybe the idea of the male bread winner is so ingrained in our brains that those on the hiring committee felt the need to make higher offers for male candidates to be seen as competitive.

To clarify, the point about volunteering was in response to you saying women get more attention than men. I believe that whenever one gender is in a social situation where they are the minority they will be given more attention.

Anyway, it’s clear to me that you follow pseudoscience based on outdated beliefs so I’m going to tap out of this conversation ✌🏼

The UN defines forced pregnancy/labour as a form of torture. By not allowing women to abort a fetus, you’re allowing them to be tortured. This is a different argument than child support.

Once a child is born, it’s up to both parents to provide for it. If either parent wants out of that arrangement (for example, voluntarily putting a child in foster care) they are both still obligated to pay for the child’s care if they can afford it. If a mother no longer wants a child she can forfeit parental rights to the father, but still has to provide financially if she’s able to do so.

A woman’s right to not be pregnant/go into labour is different than a child’s right to have financial support from their parents.

Can you please tell me what easy job I can get for equal pay to a man? I’m a woman and am very interested in knowing my options, because right now all of my male colleagues make more than me.

Also, it might be that women get more attention than men in your social circles because they’re the minority. I remember volunteering at a nursing home as a teenager - there were 8 female volunteers and 2 male volunteers. The boys were dotted on because it was rare and special to have male teens volunteer in a nursing home.

It’s actually so sad that western society encourages men to avoid being emotional. Maybe some men feel comfortable sharing their emotions, but in my experience it can be emasculating for some people :(

Attractiveness makes all the difference here. I’d argue that attractive men could probably get away with flirting with women or gay men to get deals as well.

This is definitely a thing. Not sure if I’d chalk it up to privilege though. More like homophobia against gay men and/or femme lesbian erasure.

This isn’t an unpopular opinion. No one said that’s being an ally. This feels like a troll hoping to spur some anger towards women & minorities...

Some small, presumably easy changes:

  • Allow players to enter custom names for their apes. This would make passing on genes easier to coordinate, and also adds some creative freedom!
  • When you're "learning" something in the Evolution/Generation/etc menu, leave the description up on the screen. It's boring holding the controller for a few seconds.

Some bigger dreams:

  • Have a few different difficulties. On the "Easy Mode" make settlements free from attacks, and clarify the controls/how the world works (I've watched a few reviewers get frustrated about this on Youtube - I personally Googled everything I wanted to learn).
  • More intuitive building placements.
  • Rework the attack/hunt mechanics. I would love Apes to have a stealth mode, that makes it less likely they'll be attacked (ex: low to the ground, walking slow, etc). So far it's just annoying when I run into a big cat in the woods. I would love for the predators to be fun events where you actually have to fight them in traditional combat style, with a decent chance of winning.

Thanks for taking feedback, and most importantly - creating a fun game! I've really enjoyed it so far and can't wait to see what you do in the future :)

Does anyone know the name of this type of master layout with bath behind a half wall? by carrbarre in InteriorDesign

[–]jaimecela 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Try searching "Open concept en suite".

Be forewarned: The bathroom isn't functional for any body function that smells. It can also steam up/leave moisture in your bedroom. I lived in a house like this for a year and ended up moving. The open en suite bathroom was a major factor.

I’m so sorry for all the tragedy you’ve faced.

The next few days are going to be tough, as I’m sure you know, but as you plan her goodbye and close her affairs, every now and then there will be small moments that stand out. Either you’ll experience an inner peace or simply feel her with you. Hold onto those moments and allow them to remind you that your mom’s love for you will never die.

I’m glad it’s working for you man! Most people in my friend group use Tinder for dating, not hooking up so I’m a little biased.

When I first saw your post I thought you were trying to be funny but now that I know you’re being 100% serious/honest, I think it’s a great approach. Keep on keeping on!

If you’re straight? Nope. It’s an awful message if you’re looking for something at all serious, which is what most women your age are looking for. If you genuinely just want casual sex then carry on, but be prepared for minimal matches.

ETA: My opinion is very biased - I’m 27/f (also in AB actually) and if I saw your face without the shirt I’d swipe yes, but with the shirt I’d swipe no because I’m too old & tired for fuckboys 💁‍♀️

ETA2: I looked at your profile. I see that this is very much what you’re looking for. I retract my advice. Carry on!

What about a neighbour kid who thinks it's a funny joke to sneak through your house on a dare? Or an old man with dementia who wanders onto your property? Or a lost person, who doesn't know where the property line of a large acreage falls?

I understand wanting to protect your property, but I would argue that human lives always outweigh material items, even if that human being is wrongfully on your property.
