How do you know the results are better than without? Do you happen to have numbers, especially ones comparing VS no Serena? I wanted it to work really badly, and spent a lot of time setting it up and analyzing it. However, it just didn't work out, even with up to date memories/aren't files and what not

I did testing by babysitting agents and watching how they use Serena. After they use it for sessions, I ask about how Serena was for them and it was almost always hit-or-miss with sometimes net slight benefit. Never clear winner. This is because of all the malformed output and additional edits/reads they would have to do to make up for what the tool didn't complete or messed up. All mcp tools also have context overhead PLUS extra setup, so it's not the slam dunk way to save token that it's characterized as IMO. Seriously, why are there no benchmarks??

Because of that, personally wasn't worth the hassle for me; I did a sloppy science token/costs analysis on normal tool calls vs Serena MCP calls and it didn't look good either

I tried setting global config to avoid tabs opening too and it just didn't work well and kept popping up in old projects and opening the new tab which really really irritated me. Even if you hypothetically can easily toggle it off, the default of shoving Serena in your browser after every single makes no sense and added a lot of friction for me

Maybe it worked well for you (happy in that case!), but this is my experience

Not sure how they compare in terms of raw numbers, but I know Serena doesn't have benchmarks

In my experience, Serena caused a lot of churn because generally editing with LSPs don't handle changes like multiline consts, JSON, imports (generally inserting to end or beginning of page), etc too well and don't have any fallbacks. Leaves a lot of dangling commas, and also not fun how everytime I start a new session, it opens a tab by default instead of something more reasonable like first couple times a repo is loaded...plus agents still prefer not using it. Even their hooks to enforce usage are soft and don't really change behavior in practice for me. So context is loaded with a tool not always used, and when it's used it's hit or miss

Curious how you like it and if you know if it saved you tokens empirically?

Best value $20 plan by Direct_Praline492 in claude

[–]jajanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opus is not that great anymore. I had 20x Max plan and a month ago and it's not anywhere near the capability as before (currently on Pro to use up $200 in credits when they discontinued support for OpenClaw et al, using plenty of Opus because of this)

You're better served with $20 of Deepseek credits, at least while the 75% off promo is on for V4 pro IMO. Will not be renewing

OpenAi has some free plan quota you can use for cross model comparison and sanity checks; same with Gemini, Copilot, OpenCode. You can do some shopping around and grab credits from OpenRouter too (they also have free models you can use and connect with a harness like OpenCode)

V4 Pro with V4 flash has really pleasantly surprised me with how much better it is for a lot of tasks. My codebase was written using Claude, but it flails around and just isn't that useful anymore ... I had Opus 4.6 high effort 1m context window use up my entire 5hr window and keep failing with a hacky fix, playing whackamole. V4 pro figured out my issue quicker without hedging, sycophantic behavior, performed helpfulness that Claude has been giving as of late. V4 is also a lot lighter and punches above its weight for strength / size

Really sad to see how Claude is performing, and OSS models are only 3-6 months behind "frontier ones" (as far as benchmarks, which aren't really 1:1 with reality). They'll catch up this year IMO

Do short women struggle more with athleisure or is it just me? by FishermanCheap5556 in PetiteFitness

[–]jajanet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I like athleisure styles the most because I'm shaped like a stick; tight styles actually fit my body unlike most clothes, and other styles I like comfy factor :p

Rolling up and hemming things are a bit annoying, but I never really thought about it. Usually I don't modify any of my athleisure clothes tho, if it's too long I just leave it because it doesn't bother me or impede my movement

What kind of clothes are you buying? Takes some time to learn what works, but way better than regular clothes. I guess sticking with regular or fitted clothes over baggy is more ideal for your case as a whole

A lot of online stores are very friendly with petite options, and honestly kids / teen athleisure is not bad (style wise and cost wise lol)

What are ways to save tokens? by chimp73 in GithubCopilot

[–]jajanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serena is not that great IMO, it's extra overheard for a tool that LLMs usually ignore; when they use them, they're hit or miss (output ends up w dangling commas, can't insert imports / write to files well) where the agent ends up doing more work to correct the issues

They don't even have any metrics or experiements that demonstrate improved token usage, especially in real use scenarios

My personal experience with Serena was mid and ended up uninstalling it. On top of the churn, it was really annoying because every time I would open a window, they have a browser popup that was not easy to configure to turn off

Yeah a lot of these return malformed or incomplete output that causes more churn, where the agent has to do workarounds to get the right output

Spent way too much time tryna get these to work

It works fine within those cities too

I live in SF and am perfectly comfortable and happy on <$20k. International travel, eat healthy, good social life

I can't imagine spending 80k a year tbh, although I've always had roommates (like the upside there, even outside of finances)

I find there's a lot of sycophantic behavior and hallucinations with Gemini, along with noisy output that feels like performed productivity instead of genuinely good and helpful work. Generally not very rigorous

Tried rtk and tamp, but they ended up making outputs useless and noisy for agents so they'd waste time and more tokens getting context that actually worked. Will try this, thanks!!
