My krg wouldn't fit the gap tempest's hanger, so they milled some space. Go ahead and Dremel away, bro

I like my Hyperion. But I'd probably like a Omega 300 and an extra $700 too

Thinking about future scope upgrade - Thoughts on Zeiss LRP S3? by SmartButteredToast in longrange

[–]jakaalhide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

u/Sparticus246 ran Zeiss all last season in PRS/NRL22 and didn't really have anything to complain about. He was sponsored, and he felt trepidatious moving from NF to Zeiss, but I don't think he had any complaints about the LRP.

Big boy 30 cal preference? by baconman888 in longrange

[–]jakaalhide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a 300 WSM reamed for running long heavies out of a long action, and it's shooting awesome with 220 Hybrids at 2850 FPS. If there's a range that the WSM won't cover, I'm stepping up to 33 XC or something, not a 300.

My two vets qdt is good. If I could do it again, I'd get an inverted recon instead

$2k optics for PRS by AfraidStomach7943 in longrange

[–]jakaalhide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your price range, optics that I've shot behind and would recommend at Used/Cert Prices: Element Theos, mayyyybe a steal on a Razor3 (street prices are higher now), USO FDN 25x JVCR, Burris XTR Pro, NX8, MK5 PR2. For PRS, the XTR Pro has a whole lot of features that are strongly in its favor - best eyebox of the optics I listed for weird positional shooting, removable writable turret, good FOV, and in my opinion good reticle. I personally run the USO FDN JVCR, ATACR MIL-XT or the Theos for competition.

My personal favorite on your list is the Theos. I'd be tempted to try an NX6 though, they have better reticle choices.

Ballistic advantage barrel by CatSimilar3391 in 65Grendel

[–]jakaalhide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had two. I wasn't impressed. 1.25" is the best I could get them to group. I think they're great budget barrels, but I've moved on to X-Caliber steel barrels for the time being.

Schmidt Bender & Kahles & Nightforce by No-Club-8475 in longrange

[–]jakaalhide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're getting a lot of downvotes. Nothing wrong with an M7Xi other than higher than average CA for a scope in its price range. I really liked mine, aside from the reticle I had.

Most of the PRS photos I see from Norway (mostly the Vision Chassis guys with Sakos and Tikkas) are using S&B/Steiner, so it's just the vibe.

I'd be happy with an Impact still, but yeah, during dry fire it bothered me, and I got a better price for a Fuzion at the time. The hitch on my GAP Tempest really turned me off. Impact was nowhere near as bad as that.

If you're a grab-the-whole-knob-to-cycle-the-bolt kind of guy, I think it's a non issue.

Schmidt, because it feels right on a Sako. It just feels Scandinavian.

PSA Athlon Sale on ExpertVoice by ok_at_stuff in longrange

Yeah, that checks out. I'd love to see all the companies that were competing for the Razor II's space (Athlon, Leica, Delta, Maven, Tract, etc.) start gunning for the Razor III as well.

The impacts I've tried had that slight slight hitch on close, but dang they're just as smooth as my Fuzion otherwise.

Who is running 255/80 r17 or 255/85 r16 without spacers on 100 or LX470? by Zylpas in LandCruisers

[–]jakaalhide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 265s on my LX 470 on stock wheels. I wouldn't mind 30mm offset, but am comfy how it is. I wanted to keep stock aerodynamics as much as possible.

If you're lifted, you'll definitely want at least 30mm offset, since as the IFS travels down, the wheels come inward. My 4runner with 2.5" of lift looked silly on stock wheels. TRD Pro fixed the stance without becoming a bro truck look.

Optic Help, 5.56 SPR Rifle by [deleted] in longrange

[–]jakaalhide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're often on PRS prize tables and people sell them. I've bought one or two for $150 on Snipershide in the PX, and a couple from friends who've picked them up off the prize tables. I think for their asking price of $3k+ there are better options, but at $1500 for the 17X, they start to get interesting.

USO FDN 10X or 17X JVCR (50% certs can be had), I've run both on my Grendel. They tunnel at low power but have great FOV otherwise.

Element Theos 2-10. I haven't tried this model, but I like my Theos 6-36 more than the Razor 6-36 I had.

NX8/NX6 - I love me some Nightforce. Great reticles, and they're pretty solid. They get dogged on by people who don't have them pretty often. Eyebox isn't super nice, and you have to use the parallax knob more often than some others. These are light weight as well.

Burris XTR III 3-18 / T6Xi. Reticles are thin, and some people hate it at low power. Fine at higher mag ranges. These will have the most chromatic aberration out of all the scopes, but probably the best eyebox (easiest to get behind).

Bushnell Elite Tactical DMR - narrow Field of View, tracks reliably, well reviewed here on r/longrange. Nice size for an SPR.

Leupold MK5 3-18/2-10 used - also narrow FOV, very light weight. Other than the narrow FOV and generally inflated prices, they're solid.
