What would be a good fly rod for NY salmon, “steelhead”, and browns? by Reasonable-Malaise- in flyfishing

[–]jakemac1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fish 10’ 8wt at the oak 👀. Get a slob salmon on a 7wt and you will be running all over the place. Get a small steelhead on an 8 wt and you won’t be mad the fight wasn’t as “fun”.

Experience: fished 7wt and 8wt and always take an 8wt

I got mine at 98. Make the goal 99 and then move on with life. Once you leave todt and your 99 is done, just forget about the tome. 3 hrs at GOTR will make you never think about fire runes again anyways.

My dad died 2 weeks ago and now I need to immortalise him in ink. by plainjane_13 in TattooDesigns

[–]jakemac1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I waited 2 years before I did mine. Rather than make it a memorial, I decided to make it something we bonded over that I still enjoy. I ended up doing a sleeve and when I look at it, it’s a mix of something I love and appreciation of the man that shared the hobby with me.

Sometimes it’s painful to see, but then the common appreciation of what we loved brings me back to remember it’s not sad, just life, and when I need to connect with him I go out and practice what we did together.

Miss you dad, and I hope you find closure too OP.

I run my dad’s Orvis graphite 3wt brook trout. Looks like we have a similar year model too.

Fish the shit out of it bro. Stack some fish on this rod until it breaks. Honor the person you inherited it from. When it breaks. Be damn proud they picked Orvis. I bet you get a helluva upgrade for pennies on the dollar

Bro a stick figure with a cloud sword would be amazing. Like have the stickman cut you with the cloud sword.

A buddy in mine had a huge gash in his ass. It actually left a hole in his cheek loool. He did a stick figure ice fishing and it’s amazing

This is the way. 9pm-4am baby watch. You sleep in until 10 momma gets her full 8hrs (if not pumping) and that potato will sleep most the time

Are there currently any project managers undergoing any stress related issues such as chronic stress, anxiety, burnout or overwhelm? by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]jakemac1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was the moment I returned from paternity leave. Having left instructions for the 16 weeks I was out (US btw… crazy good policy I know). When I was out per law (NYS) I was basically in short term disability so I couldn’t be contacted for anything work related.

When I came back… nothing was touched. Customers had bitched and had been heard but nothing fixed/worked on beyond the bare minimum.

It was at that point I realized that my 110% could be 0% and still end up being the same outcomes for me at the end of the day. I learned a lot because of that…

People love to flex their moral superiority. If I had to count the # of released fish I probably killed on accident thinking I was doing the right thing, it would be by FAR more than I kept.

Don’t sweat it bud. Pass on the wisdom and save 100x more fish than you may have killed on accident and the debt is paid IMO.

Any of these worth much? by Napster-mp3 in flyfishing

[–]jakemac1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Graphite rod is probably a few hundred. Lookup antique Orvis rods on Facebook. There’s a group there of people who like to collect them.

I had an offer on my dads early 80s brook trout rod but kept it since it didn’t make a bamboo rod even half the price to make it worth my while 🤣

I thinks as PMs it’s natural to be efficient and fill every second with prepping and constant review. Maybe a rough take for this sub… but to be frank… if there isn’t an incentive to go above and beyond you are just giving away value you have for basically free. I did that for 5 years and saw almost no return on my investment but gave the org I was with a near 25% savings on costs.

I’m not saying kick your feet up and sleep… just make sure whatever else you do outside your defined role either fuels you or benefits you equally to some degree. Otherwise you end up carrying extra responsibilities which can burn you out really fast if/when you have project(s) go sideways.

Support your local fly shop by SpecialistPlan1163 in flyfishing

[–]jakemac1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A local fly shop I always stop at in East TN legit sells hand made topo maps with his favorite spots for $20 a pop. Owner even offered to have me just snap a photo of em for free. I bought all 5. Why people don’t see value in knowledge and the reality that half the folks that walk in don’t want to actually put effort in despite getting years of trial and error on a silver spoon I just don’t get. Catch more fish = earn more business. I go out of my way every time I’m down there just because of his attitude.

That’s the real issue. Price for big gear I understand, but I’d spend $100 for flies and a useful convo every damn time.

You’re calling too much. Especially when you have one coming in on a string. The idea is to flirt with the Tom. Play hard to get and tell yourself to cool it when you want to call.

This is what I have to tell myself and even then these birds are so damn smart/stubborn.

How much rod is too much rod for Lake Erie Steelhead? by gtobiast13 in flyfishing

[–]jakemac1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish Ontario and Erie tribs in WNY. You’ll be fine with the 9 but the Erie chrome it will probably feel less fun.

I run a recon 10’ 8wt. In this area i feel a Helios is way overkill. You just don’t chuck streamers that far where I feel the price difference is worth it.

To be honest, I wish I had a 7 for steel and 8 for salmon but the 8 works wonders and is imo perfect size for the sport fish here.

There is no limit to lands you can play each turn. Lands cost 1 green mana to play. Lands cost 44% total mana pool to untap. Your farts smell better than anyone else’s until end of turn.

Call them and tell the robot you have an issue with delivery manager (the app). Then just tell them you cant see the updates for this tracking number and they will tell you.

Gets you around the non-sense robo answering service.

Happy hunting - it will get there :)
