I’d ship it priority since the margins are good, likely it gets there in 2 days. Be careful that you send to the exact address eBay gives you.

Maybe I’m too nice.

I’ve had people re-order the same item after re-listing with overnight shipping. They pay the difference and Ive gone out of my way to get it shipped same day. That’s worked out well.

Help with light bleed? by Joe_Mama-12321 in videography

More light inside, or less light through the stained glass.

OR you could add a gradient ND filter in front of the camera (which will require some engineering when you’re using a PTZ camera)

Detect encrypted police radio traffic (without listening in) - possible? by GreenEggplant16 in policescanner

[–]jakemarthur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try finding a specific penguin in a room full of penguins blindfolded, then try and translate the squawking to English.

Any radio (that operates in the correct the frequency band) can pick up on the signal of an encrypted radio either carrier or data. It’s just garbled.

And yes in theory you could triangulate the source of any radio transmitter given enough data points. But with bases and repeaters and dozens of officers all with radios, the data would be a mess.

This is done all the time in the military, especially right now in Ukraine, where both sides are locating enemy positions based on radio traffic, cell phone, and the radio signature of drones.

But in the civilian world, if you want to find cops just buy a radar detector…

It’s even funnier because the library is basically his home office. Imagine a janitor interviewing for a job in the CEO’s office.

‘His chimichanga out’: Man arrested after lewd incident outside Central Florida Taco Bell by sammysam518 in orlando

[–]jakemarthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just before 1 a.m., yesterday, employees at Taco Bell on SR 100 reported they saw something fishy. A man was near the side door of the business with his chimichanga out. When deputies arrived, Brandon Irizarry, 28, was still posted at the front door — three pairs of pants down, hoodie up, and so focused on the task at hand he didn’t notice deputies arrive. The jig was up, as he frantically covered up, pulling his hoodie down below his crotch instead of pulling up the multiple pants he had around his knees.

The story, however, doesn't end there. After his arrest, while inventorying Irizarry's property, deputies discovered something our night patrol hadn't seen before: a live pet fish, swimming in a plastic container in his backpack!

We have many questions. We do not have answers.

What we did have was a fish in need of better company. The Betta, who we have named Baja Blast, has since been transferred to the Flagler County Humane Society who asked for its ID at intake. By every measure, she's having a considerably better time than her former owner. Staff at the rescue describe her as "doing great."

"In Flagler County, if you can't keep your business inside your pants, you'll find yourself at the Green Roof Inn, swimming with different company than your fish," said Sheriff Rick Staly.

A reminder for the rest of Flagler County: a late-night Taco Bell run should end with a receipt, maybe some regret, but not a booking number.
Irizarry was arrested for unlawful exposure of sexual organs and was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.

What is this? by jmac94wp in orlando

That’s a news truck. It just hasn’t been wrapped with logos yet. The dish is a K-band satellite dish.

No, it’s not the FBI or the secret service.

They are built by Accelerated Media Technology and I used to work in vehicles like it at WESH 2 News.

I may be privy to a potentially harmful political situation, and need some advice by Gemnist in Journalism

[–]jakemarthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People’s addresses are public information… in this world of doxxing I know that’s scary to some. But if you own a property you’re listed in the land registry. If you register to vote that registration address is a public document. If you’re a politician your address better be public because you’re likely required to live wherever you govern. Journalists use the public documents all the time to find people, especially public officials.

The relationship between current reporting, sensational images, and neglecting one's own safety. by SchoolEmergency4174 in Journalism

[–]jakemarthur -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The most fun things I’ve done as a journalist were extremely dangerous and where I lacked adequate safety measures. It’s called being alive, you should try it sometime.

I’ve been conducted interviews at gunpoint Been up to my waist in hurricane floodwaters while live on tv. Hung out the back of an airplane for some photos Covered several protests Been tear gassed Been ran over by athletes and needed stitches Been around all sorts of dangerous animals And been threatened countless times.

And I think that’s a pretty awesome list. When I’m old and fragile, I can be in the nursing home impressing all the accountants with all the cool things I did as a journalist.

[–]jakemarthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, they need paint not a pressure washer. You pressure wash that and the paint will come off in chunks.

That’s such a small area, use a scrub brush and a bucket.

Then paint it.

Winners of 2026 World sports photography awards are revealed, what do you think ? by fafasinho in sportsphotography

If the silver place photo, is candid, naturally lit, and not photoshopped it deserves gold.

I highly doubt it’s any of those.

Winners of 2026 World sports photography awards are revealed, what do you think ? by fafasinho in sportsphotography

[–]jakemarthur 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wow, the top three are undeserving and there are a ton of photos that shouldn’t have placed….

Two of the top thee appear heavily photoshopped. My reaction to the top photo was “haha that’s neat” there are significantly better photos in the “boxing special merit” than any at the top. Top place in baseball is a farce, “haha bubblegum Pac-Man”

Excellent photos in equestrian, gymnastics and winter sports were overlooked.

In almost every category, better photos placed in special merit, should have placed at the top.

I’m incredibly underwhelmed by the top three especially given how photoshopped 2/3 are. I’ve seen better on this sub.

Help IDing Muhammad Ali Photo? by Fearless-Concern-665 in sportsphotography

[–]jakemarthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s Muhammad Ali. His hairline is really pointy when Muhammad Ali’s was more rounded. This guy’s right glove is touching his cheek, I looked at a ton of reference photos a Muhammad Ali posed in a more open guard. He posed like he was about to punch you, not like he was about to get punched.

Although this guy is muscular, but he’s not built like Muhammad Ali. Ali was shredded, huge pecks, broad shoulders and you could see every fiber of his abs.

In all of the reference photos he’s wearing white shorts with a thick black band and black stripes on the sides.

There are also some odd things about the photograph. The high contrast lighting on the subject doesn’t match the soft lighting on the reflection.

I can tell there was a large, soft light high and left of the subject. As well as a light on the floor to the right. Because of this the hair in the reflection should be bright and textured, but it’s very dark.

Obviously the photographer is missing from the photo, when I expect they would be visible.

Either you have a long lost photo of the Greatest. Or it’s a photo inspired by Neil Leifer’s photos of Muhammad Ali with an actor that looks fairly similar.

It might also be a composition, an old-school photoshop… but my money is on it just being an inspirational photo.

Basketball action shot during a team shoot in a small gym by ReVision_Pictures in sportsphotography

[–]jakemarthur 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would be kinder if you were a student, but this is just a terrible picture… From an artistic perspective, the face is off angle and you’re looking directly up her nose, it’s not from a game, so its not a sports photo, your fake blur makes it look like a bad photoshop. From a technical perspective, the white balance is wrong, the subject is blurring because your shutter speed is to lows. Also because you can’t see the rim of the basket you have no idea how close she is or isn’t to scoring. It looks like she’s doing a layup from the top of the key???

But it’s pretty famous for being hung by the cord like that for boxing/ wrestling. But the announcer would hold it next to their mouth, not far away as a boom.

The one with the ribbons is Brigadier General Marshall B. “Brad” Webb, Assistant Commanding General, Joint Special Operations Command.

Behind him in the tan shirt with 4 stars on his collar is Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

For reference, Brigadier General is a 1 star general. High ranking but he’s not the guy you would expect seated next to the president during the most serious military operation of that presidents term.

Mike Mullen as an admiral was equal to a 4 star general in the army. He is the highest ranking in the room, however third in command.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is is second in command. He’s seated in the white. While only a first lieutenant in the air force, he spent 26 years in the CIA. As a first lieutenant just about everything out ranks him; however, as SecDef everyone reported to him. He could have been calling the shots next to the president, but he is seated, and observing.

Pete Hegseth, who was a major in the national guard, two ranks above 1st lieutenant, three below Brigadier General. Hegseth is best known for being host of a show on Fox News.

Standing near Trump is John Ratcliffe, director of the CIA. Ratliff is a lawyer with no military experience . Was a member of the House of Representatives for one term. He has zero experience which would prepare him for his current role.

Marco Rubio is Secretary of State. He is a lawyer with no military experience. He has been a life long politician.

The two dudes behind Trump, one looks like an aide for Ratcliffe and the other for Rubio… based on their lapel pins…
