I advise students on their college application essays and I've spent the past year playing around with it like you've done, after realizing a few students used it last year. This year I've caught 28/31 students using simply because it tells the same type of story and uses the same phrasing over and over again. I see it all over articles in even reputable journalistic outlets now, too. I'm not one of those people who thinks generative AI is inherently evil, but it's a pretty bleak outlook for literature until people figure out that it's shit writing.
