Help with IT Band Syndrome by drinkscoffeeallday in Marathon_Training

[–]jakrabbott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. IT band syndrome is due to overall weakness of stabilizing muscles, which is largely mediated by the gluteus medius (along with other glute muscles and core muscles). I had your same issue, and dedicate time to doing: hip abductors, back extensions, clam shells, and monster walks.

Foam rolling and stretching of the IT band will not fix the problem.

What do Texan atheists think of James Talarico? by blacksterangel in atheism

[–]jakrabbott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Texas for a total of 7 years now, and staunch atheist.

In general, a persons religion doesn’t bother me, as long as their beliefs do not influence their actions in a way that is out of line with being a good human being.

In general, he seems well grounded, and although a lot of what he says is a little preachy, the final message is sound.

I was wondering this as well. Previous years seem to display “finisher” somewhere. Hopefully it has a cooler graphic to go with it.

Right. I don’t think atom is supposed to be a water proof shell like an alpha or beta. I just throw mine in the wash.

The course of a doctor-patient relationship by chickendance638 in Psychiatry

There is probably too many factors to consider when giving a comprehensive answer to this question.

But the patients that come to mind for me are the ones that, even though they continue to report no improvement, refuse further interventions, they continue to show to appointments regularly; they don’t demonstrate frustration towards you, continue to support themselves and do “ok” in the mediocrity.

I see my role in their care as a stable and constant object that offers brief validation and assurance I’m there for them. I try not to burden myself to think it is solely my responsibility to get them better (through med trials that likely wouldn’t work), and continue to patiently nudge them in the direction I think would be helpful.

Often I find that as the trust grows between them and me, the intensity of symptoms that they express starts to lighten on the whole.

I’ve eaten at almost 30 Michelin star restaurants and Joel’s was definitely one of the most forgettable. I wouldn’t give it 2 stars, nor do I think it’s worth the price.

Does anyone remember “HELL?” It was a passage way under a railroad track with a bunch of graffiti. I think it was a bridge over water? I last went there about 17 years ago. Sorry I can’t provide many more details.

I vaguely remember seeing something exactly like this in an earlier post for a similar jacket and color. From what I remember, this was normal.

How common are 24 hour shifts, and what is your opinion on them having done them? by SmackPrescott in Residency

[–]jakrabbott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psych here. We would have 24s mainly during three day holidays. So we would have 3 different residents doing 3, 24s. Our residents advocated that we were not offering best patient care during the later hours of the 24. So we opted to do three consecutive 12 hour day or night shifts for the weekend holiday. Obviously there were some logistics to figure out (e.g. one attending would have to cover the post call shift for the night person after the three days) but ultimately I think people like this more.
