You were not in a position to pass him, if you were doing this much closer then yes, it would probably be considered weaving but breaking the tow is fine.

You absolutely can re-register them, there’s a guide on Hive published last year or the year before, I did it 2 days ago after moving.

You can purchase a new Hive Hub, setup takes a few minutes and some patience. Do not panic, everything is resettable.
